I thought Milton looked pretty good throwing the football with it being first game, jitters and expectations, etc.

He looked ok running too.

I hope they work on his design runs this week and against Peay.

Anyone else think it look like he could hold/sell it for a half tick longer though? Before taking off?
Just a half sec longer to let the DBs get further down field and the DL further up field.
They may work on it, but I doubt we see it against AP. We'll be simple, plain, vanilla, and just plain, simple vanilla against AP.

Josh Pate on UT:

You look at 49 points being hung and you say, wow, Tennessee exploded out of the gate. No, they did not. They did not.In fact, in a shortened game because of new clock rules, they found a way to hang half 100. Even though out of their first five drives, four of them ended in a punt or a turnover. So it was kind of slow out of the gate. But that was normal college football stuff. That's a casual concern. That's not a legitimate concern. That's just a casual concern. Joe Milton, I got a story to tell you about him in a second but Joe Milton was 21 of 30 200 yards through the air, a couple of touchdowns, 33 on the ground, another couple of touchdowns. I don't know that I could have expected more from him in a debut as a starter. I was happy. I was pleased with what I saw from him.

Offensive line though was a big concern for Tennessee coming into this game and that's really the area where all things considered Cooper Mays is out. I thought that unit stepped up you're not gonna go back if you have access to all 22 film and look at it and say, "oh, what a clinic, just procedural. Look at this, They annihilated Virginia." They weren't going to. It's a bunch of new pieces anyway. And then you got one of your focal points out. They did, more than well enough to obviously win a game and run away from a team and win a game. But Joe Milton on that opening drive, I think it was he, he's coming right down to our end of the field and there was 4th down play, I think it was 4th and five and he went through progressions and he checked that ball down and they got it in the end zone and I was over on the Tennessee sideline. They, they were so ecstatic, not just that they scored, but they saw him do what as a coaching staff, they hope he has the maturation to do or the maturity to do. And so I just kind of always took that kind of stuff away because that's week one. You know,it's the kind of place you expect the guy to be in week six, week one though. That's just a good sign.

It's Virginia.I know what the comment section will say.Well, yeah,it's just Virginia.I get it.It's like a blanket statement you can make about 95% of teams who played in week one.But Josh Heel develops quarterbacks.I could go on a hype video one day,I think Josh hyper develops quarterbacks though. So when I see them have three running backs get 12 plus carries,I see 5.5 yards per carry and I have what they had onthe offensive line and that's my starting point.I do have legitimate reason with Tennessee quarterbacks to think it'sonly onward and upward from here.I don't say that about everyone.I just trust the developmental process there at that position to where,I mean,if I,if I got 52 carries 287 yards at the tailback position, I'm solid there. They trust a number of guys at that position.I know that quarterback is what it is and will get better for me barring injury.I,I feel good.

I've finally gotten to the point that I put on ignore anyone who complains about Milton.

It's stupid, blind, knee jerk, negavol, and based on follow-the-crowd tropes from years ago. Any true Vols fan should know better.

If they ever say anything worth reading later, I'm ok with missing it
. If Milton does make a mistake -- like Peyton and Hooker did, btw -- it's no justification for the complainers. I don't care if they search the world for an instance they can "have a conversation" about. They are boring. I don't think they even are worth tasing. 😂

Remember the Tod and Kim Klubnik fan club will be meeting at Glitch's house at 7:30 tonight. As club president, Glitch will be serving hors d'oeuvres. Probably those little cocktail weenies. He loves him some cocktail weenies. Not that I'm judging.
Kim is bringing her chip dip that rivals Barb's and you aren't invited.

Teams with good-great fronts that can close down our running game and that can press our recievers hard (eg:UGA) are always going to be a problem for this offense...I bet we see that from Bama this year too.

We will still get several opportunities for big plays against even the greatest (eg:UGA) defenses we play.

The question is do we make those plays or not. Joe can NOT be Overthrow Joe in those games, and the recievers can NOT blow the opportunities which will be at a premium against those defenses.

It really is pretty simple...we are always going to destroy poor-mediocre defenses, destroy or handle good defenses, and struggle to beat great defenses if we don't make the limited number of big plays that will be available.

Defenses that take away the run and press receivers are difficult for every offense, not just this one. Make an offense one dimensional and your defense is gonna have a good day.

I suspect there are some legitimate (though imho misdirected) concerns. I also suspect there is a heaping, steaming pile of 'concern trolls' with nothing better to do than just spread their heaping, steaming piles.

You won the board today. Put some clothes on and relax for awhile.

Defenses that press cover are more likely to give up the big plays due to being over agressive....especially on the outside ..

I agree...that is why I said opportunities are always going to be at a premium against great defenses.
