Today has been somber. I absolutely loved Mike Leach interviews, and would always tune in to parts of his games. I have listened to xm84 about all day long, and to hear some of the stories shared by friends, players, and other coaches have made me appreciate the uniqueness of the man so much more. Some of the stories I heard today, and read on twitter were absolutely phenomenal, and some down right hilarious!
Hearing all these actually brought up a nice memory of my father and I, who I was just talking about here yesterday. He passed 10 years ago in November. One of my last great memories of him was driving to Wyoming from WV to go elk hunting. Mike Leach was on xm84 at the time as a talk show co host. I think it was probably the 3rd morning of driving, and I was listening to Leach's show, and my father, that never, ever mentioned or paid any mind to what was on the radio, reaches over and turns the volume down. I was kind of like "what was that for?" He calmly said "i'm tired of listening to that milly mouth. Good coach, but I've heard enough...". lol
He then went back to just looking out the window and enjoying the scenery of the trip.
