Here is how it would've played out this year with a 12 team playoff. Highest rank conference winners are seeded 1-4. Balance are seeded 5-12 based on end of season biased ranking. Problems right off the bat. Why are Washington and USC in and LSU out? Bama being ranked one ahead of us would mean the top two teams in the SEC this year would face off round 2. One of TCU, Washington, and Utah will still be in the semi-final. Bama would have a real shot at another natty.

I don't think automatic bid for Conference winner should be automatic 1-5. We'll see though...

literally not a single person on earth who follows CFB thought they were going 7-5
I wouldn't be surprised if Kirby has 1-6 staff members whose sole job is to scour social media, comment sections in articles or blogs, or message boards, and find the most ridiculous comments. Print them out and hang them up.

Some of the very members of this forum could be hung up on their bulletin board.

Every conference champ and their runners up from ACC (Clemps, UNC), BIG12 (TCU, KState), B1G (Michigan, Purdue), PAC12 (Utah, USC) got smashed in their Bowl games.

The top 4 SEC teams - 1 UGA, 2 Vols, 3 LSU, 4 Bama - destroyed 4 of those teams.

Voters should not hesitate in placing next season’s CFP ranking in that order.

All great points. People love to compare the conferences as a whole, and it’s a valid analysis, but they rarely compare the top teams from every conference. To take it a step further look at the history of the playoff records for each conference.

SEC: 16-5 with 6 championships. 2 of those 5 losses were at the hands of another SEC team. So they are 14-3 against other conferences in the playoffs.
Big10: 3-7 with 1 championship.
Big12: 1-5 with 0 championships.
PAC12: 1-2 with 0 championships.
ACC: 6-5 with 2 championships.
Group of 5: 0-1 with 0 championships.
Independent (ND): 0-2 with 0 championships.
*Technically ND was part of the ACC for the 2020 covid season but I’m going to keep them in the independent category for the results.

Big10 just got their chance at having 2 teams in the playoff and they blew it, big time. It’s pretty clear that if it comes down to 2 teams from the same conference getting in, it should be the SEC.

Everything. Colliding against 170 lb linebackers is much different than hitting 220 lb linebackers. Not to mention speed variance. The collisions are massive and high school should never be something used as comparable.
The majority is going to try and go the next level to play 20+ games…..! think they will be ok

I hope he does well, but I have my doubts about Karic. He is the one transfer that I have my doubts about.

Yeah, not sure if he's going to start or not. He's athletic enough that he got some snaps at TE for Texas though (even as a blocking TE that's still impressive athleticism imo) so I'm hopeful at the very least he's an upgrade over Lane/Lampley in the 2 deep.

Anyone got solid info on the eligibility of the Transfers we just picked up? I've seen conflicting stuff all over the place on this.

Based on what I saw/could figure:
Thornton- 2 or 3 Yrs
Campbell- 1 or 2 Yrs
Norman-Lott- 2 Yrs

Can anyone confirm?
* Thornton has 3 years to play 2. So he still has a redshirt year if needed.
* Norman-Lott has 3 years to play 2. So he still has a redshirt year if needed.
* Campbell is a 6th year senior who HAS used his redshirt. So he only has 1 year left. Some have guessed he may be able to get his 2021 season back if he appeals to the NCAA. He was out all of 2021 with a leg injury after he had already used a redshirt year. So he could have 2 years left if the NCAA approves a waiver for a 7th season.

I have ALWAYS hated that pansy excuse...every level plays expanded playoffs except the highest...it doesn't and NEVER has made any sense.

The only ones that even bring this pansy excuse up are bubble wrappers.

I feel like Campbell and Thornton are both coming to ball out for a year and get in the draft. Thornton could stick around to play a season with Nico though, if he doesn't have a huge year next year.

Also Nico's first year running the show will be interesting, could basically only see Squirrel returning (Bru, Keyton will both be gone and Thornton could leave too). Obviously some younger WRs on roster will get more experience next year and it'll be good that a few of them are coming in with Nico this season hopefully they all put in the extra work in the offseason to rep throws/routes together.

Also I just want to say once again how great of a job Pope did for us he elevated the guys he had on roster AND he out recruited Burns too!

As @BigSteve09 said, they have two years remaining or a path to get there. The coaches generally want to avoid one and dones and make ongoing development for max potential clear in the pitch. Though a year like Hyatt's could cause an unexpected early departure, UT looks for a two-year commitment. Even a fifth-year like Pili has a path to two years with a second medical RS. If there's a path, UT will pursue it.

As long as we have to play both Alabama and UGA and neither of them has to play each other every season...both will always have a huge advantage on us.

We have a harder road to either a SEC or National Cjampionship than any other team in CFB...it makes it nigh impossible....even if you beat them both in season, you will have to beat one or both again to win a title even with the expanded playoffs.

I hate this crap.
Us and Auburn. Both of us have the hardest road to the National Championship year in and year out because we both ALWAYS have to play UGA and Bama every year. Can’t wait until 2024 and the conference shake up.

Georgia winning another one just makes me laugh. Can’t get too upset because unhealthy obviously. Seems like every big sec school has won 1 or multiple (Bama, Florida, Georgia, LSU) since Tennessee sniffed their last championship. Sad.

Here’s to Ole Hugh Freeze getting it going down there on the plains. Only root for 1 team of course but having the Barn kick Kirby’s and Sabans rear ends wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world

I believe they proposed it that way.

I’m 100% on board with a 12 team playoff but this was the one thing that I don’t like at all. Giving conference winners an auto bye is dumb. Not all conferences are created equal and not all conferences are structured the same. I just want the top 4 teams based off the committee rankings to get the byes.. screw conference winners.

I don't think dropping them out of the top 10 should be out of consideration. Keeping them top 5 would just make a further mockery of the whole thing.

We dropped 4 spots when we lost to UGA at UGA by 14. TCU lost by 58. That is 4 times as bad as our loss to UGA. So if we feel four spots, they should theoretically drop 16 spots to finish around 18 in the CFP Poll.
