From a poster on VQ...TIFWIW...

Not giving the typical VQ disclaimer, but I have been told by one of Tyndall's former players at MTSU that he has agreed to become the next head coach. Announcement likely coming tomorrow morning (if not tonight). This is a great hire IMO.

He was contacted by Tyndall about being on his staff as director of basketball operations. Given that this guy is my best friend and was in my wedding, I believe him.

He has an overall .654 winning % as a HC (including .767 at Southern Miss the last 2 seasons), took his team to the NCAA's twice at Morehead St, won the Conf USA Reg season this year at Southern Miss, and grew up 38 miles from where Butch Jones grew up. He's not the sexy grand slam media darling, and I'd like to hear more about him, but so far so good, IMO.

I honestly think that a feeling of entitlement and complacency will be what ends up getting Alabama and it's stud players.

Its already starting too. For the past few years they have almost dominated recruiting and as is clear they are absolutely loaded with talent. but yet somehow they still lose and look inept in many aspects.

The fact is they get the kids that want to go to a school, get a ring and go to the pros without actually having to work hard to earn any of it. Just look at all those players they send into the NFL, highly drafted that are bombing hard. Sure they have a few that are doing as expected but most aren't. Thats what happens when you have other talented players to carry you and cover your deficiencies in college against less talented comp. The talent gap doesn't really exist in the NFL like it does in CFB.

Edit: Just wanted to add that I think it will be the NFL more than Saban that leads to Sabans and Bamas downfall. Once the NFL GMs realize that Bama players are only looking good because of the overall talent on the team and not because of just that individual they will stop drafting them higher than they should be and recruits will see this and start going to schools where they can actually showcase their talents, instead of being told that they shouldn't be drafted because other players were covering their weaknesses.

I'll support him, but he's got some work to do to make me believe in him. Maybe he'll pull a Butch and do that with the introduction press conference. I hope so. He needs to bring a new energy to the program.

We need a coach that believe the UT job is one of the best jobs in the country, and sells the school that way to recruits. We have the facilities and fan support. He needs to mention some of those things. He needs to make us believe this is a dream job for him just like Butch did. Get people on the Donnie Tyndall wagon right away. The recruiting sales pitch begins with the press conference.

This really goes for any coach that we hire.

Just ready for the speculation to end so we can all support the new coach. Whoever it is.

Well, I don't think "we" will support him, but you and I probably will.

If he's the guy, I'm sure there are elements of the fanbase already preparing their petition to have him fired.

He better make the tourney next spring or he's done. Hope Hart is making that clear as we speak. ;-)

The link is a clip from an interview if him at the start of this past season.

Donnie Tyndall Bio - SOUTHERNMISS.COM - The Southern Miss Golden Eagles Official Athletic Site

Softening my stance on this one. In listening I am hearing a guy that even plays some zone D - which is a good thing. Has a realistic view of building a roster and what he can accomplish. Very involved and concerned with fan support. No worries on allegiance to some other school somewhere else down the road. I now recall his run at Morehead State - which was impressive. Much more experienced as a HC than a lot of the B listers. Might be a guy that could generate some interest. Not at the top of my list by any stretch, but a guy I could support for sure.

That morehead program won 4 games the year before he got there

Was he a take? Serious question because I haven't really followed his recruitment. I know we are still waiting on Richmond. I didn't know how many more spots we'd probably have.

I'm in the minority, but I did not think he was. Stewart, Jones, Richmond are the 3 I have felt we would end up with. Lovingood is taking a spot as well as a LS. I had felt IF we missed on Richmond, Edoga, Clark, or Harrell would be a take.

Now no Harrell, no Edoga, and Clark is IMO getting tired of waiting. Offer goes out to Givens as the staff will need a play IF Richmond picks osu.

JMO of course.

Did you mean 3 instead of 4? You think we only take 3 OL in back to back classes?

He's a guard and Richmond is a tackle. Everything I'd seen indicated that he was absolutely a take. We were gunning for him, Edoga, and Stewart at G and Jones and Richmond at T.

FWIW the other day the TSR guys were saying that Tyndall wanted the job. So now that were pursuing, I bet hes our guy

Looks like it will happen. I think he and White are very similar and I liked both. I favored White a bit as his SEC experience was more recent. If he is willing to take the job and the buyouts are slanted a bit more in UTs favor, bring him on.
