Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

Looks like it will happen. I think he and White are very similar and I liked both. I favored White a bit as his SEC experience was more recent. If he is willing to take the job and the buyouts are slanted a bit more in UTs favor, bring him on.

It's a different situation with Tyndall, I think. It's been speculated that White is likely trying to get the Ole Miss job next year after his team makes the NCAA and Kennedy is fired. Tyndall isn't going to leave to go back to Morehead State or wherever it was he went to school. So the buyout discussion is likely different in nature.

I like Tyndall's style of play better (he likes press high pressure man defense and he loves great shooters on offense, which is something we haven't had in a while) but Tyndall's lack of recruiting scares the piss out of me. White was a better recruiter at La Tech than Tyndall at USM. That's alarming jmo. I was also concerned about Butch's big time recruiting skills on that hire

He has an overall .654 winning % as a HC (including .767 at Southern Miss the last 2 seasons), took his team to the NCAA's twice at Morehead St, won the Conf USA Reg season this year at Southern Miss, and grew up 38 miles from where Butch Jones grew up. He's not the sexy grand slam media darling, and I'd like to hear more about him, but so far so good, IMO.

Boom!

I still think we need at least 4 OL and maybe 5. We only took 3 last class an one of those is an underachieving (so far) JC.

I see it as MAYBE they can take a 4th(5th incld Lovingood) closer to NSD IF enough spots open up. I get the fans would just drop enough kids to take 25. What I am seeing play out is CBJ may not plan to do that. Long way to go. We'll see.

Probably was. I guess I just don't see the UTAD ever paying a basketball coach more than a football coach like you said. Is that not the case at UF? If whoever they end up with goes out and hits the jackpot, are they going to write the check to keep him like UF has? I am not seeing that kind of demand and adherence to excellence from UT. It always seems to be about managing expectations instead of exceeding them. If Muschamp is mediocre this season he will be gone. We look for reasons and rationalize. JMO and certainly see the other side.

It also takes a little luck. Donovan accepted the Magic job several years ago and then backed out. Successful coaches get other opportunities.

I'm in the minority, but I did not think he was. Stewart, Jones, Richmond are the 3 I have felt we would end up with. Lovingood is taking a spot as well as a LS. I had felt IF we missed on Richmond, Edoga, Clark, or Harrell would be a take.

Now no Harrell, no Edoga, and Clark is IMO getting tired of waiting. Offer goes out to Givens as the staff will need a play IF Richmond picks osu.

JMO of course.
I agree. I think the we need 2 more OL and they need to be OTs. Preferably I'd like Richmond and Clark, but if we miss out on one givens can be a consolation.

I liked Harrel as a player a lot, but we already have two guards as guard isn't as much of a need as tackle for us in this class.

Especially considering our depth at guard right now. We have Kerbyson and Jackson for another season after this one, Sanders for three after this season, Wiesman for 2 after this season, and one of Mosley/Robertson for 3 or 4 after this season.

Adding Jones and Stewart to that is plenty IMO.

Jones is a tackle.

And thank god he did. I didn't have much confidence in him. Jaq Vaugn is also suspect but came from the spurs so the process is there. We will see what happens.

Good point. It did force their hand. At least they responded the right way and now have a legacy coach and program.

I see it the same way. We can talk 25 all we want as fans, but if there is good progress with some of the marginal guys that expectation will have to be cut back some.

We need a coach that believe the UT job is one of the best jobs in the country, and sells the school that way to recruits. We have the facilities and fan support. He needs to mention some of those things. He needs to make us believe this is a dream job for him just like Butch did. Get people on the Donnie Tyndall wagon right away. The recruiting sales pitch begins with the press conference.

This really goes for any coach that we hire.

If he was gunning for this job as soon as Martin bounced like several have said...he very well might be that type of guy.

I honestly think that a feeling of entitlement and complacency will be what ends up getting Alabama and it's stud players.

good point. and in the end it really doesn't matter how many 5 stars they have sitting on their bench does it? They have no practical effect on the game. Since recruiting is an inexact science at best, our players that are on the field just have to be close in talent to the ones Bama is playing at any one time. Many 5 stars under-perform and many 3-4 stars over achieve. That's where coaching and desire of individuals come in. That is where CBJ can make his next mark and prove he is not just a great recruiter but a great coach. We are already on the right track to catching them. I guarantee you the other SEC coaches have noticed what we have going here, including Saban. And they know we are going to be a force to be reckoned with... soon.

Just reading in the BF and I am sure the crap is about to hit the fan. lol I would love to see our B-ball become relevant again on a consistant basis.

Dude appears to be a winner. Plus he developed one of my favorite players in Kenneth Fareed.

I'm cool with him, we good...
