I have played into my college years and seriously watched baseball for 6 decades (wow, that's old). Mike Trout is the current Mickey Mantle. Hopefully he doesn't get caught up in the traps of being a young guy that is worshipped by so many because that's what cost Mantle some productive years and injuries. But, Trout is as real of a first ballot HOF'er as it gets. He just needs to keep doing what he is doing. I absolutely love the way he plays the game.

Charlie Strong getting hired by Texas is just wonderful for us and the SEC in general. So glad that we did not end up with him. Butch is going to prove to be so much better than him. IMO Texas will always be a wannabe as long as Strong is there. Meanwhile the SEC will continue to out-recruit and flourish in their back yard.

I argued with more people on here than I care to count that Strong's recruiting prowess was woefully overrated - guy did the same thing at UL - basically just pulled a lot of 3 stars and Teddy B fell into his lap when Miami took another QB late and he decommitted

we are lucky we got CBJ instead of Strong imo

I was a big Strong proponent. I crapped on CBJ. Also, I'm wrong a lot.

While I think it's way too early to say that for sure, I have to concede that Butch has shown far more recruiting prowess than Strong so far. I argued against you, so I have to admit that so far I was wrong on that. As far as coaching and development, we'll have to wait and see.

you are right that both have a long way to go - but texas has so many advantages that 1 5.8 4 star, 8 3 stars, and 0 5 stars at this stage in the game is just very pedestrian

I really hope so. I may be at the game as a guest of 2 big alumni/boosters of ou. Will have great seats. Really need to whup the sooners. :)

I believe you have to graduate from Juco to play D1 ball. He dropped out of his HS in order to start Juco early. It can be done if he kicks butt.

This. When all that was going on I would point out the class rankings by player and people were in such a heated panic for Strong they would argue just to argue. It was a pointless exercise at the time. Now Vol fans are starting to figure out why.

I had Butch #5 on my personal list. Gruden (yes, Gruden), Patterson, Mora, Gundy, Jones in that order. Strong wasn't on it. I do not think he is a good recruiter and I think his OC is sub par. Teddy bailed him out a bunch, but so did the lesser competition they went against. He is like Muschamp. If he had gone to Louisville instead of UF first, they would have had similar results IMO.

I live in the Louisville area, and while I don't think Strong was as good a recruiter as Butch, by any stretch, he did have some decent recruiters on staff. Clint Hurtt was from Miami, so you know he knew how to recruit! :)

I'd really like to take care of business against all the east teams so we have a shot the SEC championship. I feel like everyone in the east is vulnerable and it'll be a 2-3 loss team that makes it.

I'm no professional but we would be his first SEC offer other than the negligible Vandy offer. Watch his highlights and you won't be disappointed. He's like a 6'5 Cecil Cherry who also plays quarterback.

I agree he is an awesome player. Nothing is for sure though. I remember future Hall of Famer being tossed around for many players that never sustained after they had some success. Andruw Jones with the Braves for one. You just never know how someone is going to handle it. Rafael Furcal for another. He has had a nice career but I doubt anyone thinks he is a lock for Hall of Fame.

I'll be pretty worried about Butch and the long run if he finishes worse than 6-6. No reason to not get at least one win out UF, Mizzou, and Ole Miss.

I wanted to say thank you for all of the prayers for my PaPa. His surgery actually got postponed to this morning due to an emergency case. He had three bypasses and a couple others will have to be stinted at a later date. The doctor commented that he is an extremely strong 84 year old and he is right. He and my Na have been married for almost 66 years and being able to be here for her and having so many prayers has really helped her through what we hope was the worst of this. Thank you again for all of the prayers.

Oh what was really interesting is the doctor said that one of the arteries has been so blocked for so long that his body had actually started growing tributary arteries around the blockage. His body was repairing itself! God is awesome and amazing. Praise be to him!
