Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

VQ said Alden Hill's departure came as no surprise... They also said Malik Brown and Jaron Toney are strong possibilities to look elsewhere. Remember, Swafford goes on scholarship in the Fall.

The football team has been holding conditioning and weightlifting sessions. A.J Johnson hasn't just been leading or organizing these workouts, he's been "downright demanding".

Brown leaving would be interesting. I bet a lot of guys in Jones' first class get recruited over. He was dealt a bad hand. He nabbed a few gems in that one, but there were certainly some reaches.

I argued with more people on here than I care to count that Strong's recruiting prowess was woefully overrated - guy did the same thing at UL - basically just pulled a lot of 3 stars and Teddy B fell into his lap when Miami took another QB late and he decommitted

we are lucky we got CBJ instead of Strong imo

Same as you. Strong is very overrated. I was cheering for CBJ that day!

If you have not read Beano's comments on Basilio's blog this AM, you owe it to yourself to have a few laughs. I could and have not stated any of it better than him. Maybe it's the similarity in age and ways of seeing things. Like him, time to let it all go and just support the Vowels, er, Vols.

I wish Hill the best. I was hoping for more from Brown, but if his future is elsewhere, good luck to him.

I'm a little surprised at Toney. I know his numbers should greatly diminish (except maybe special teams, even then...), but being a redshirt senior, I thought he might stick around. If he wants on the field, another venue might suit him. His leaving won't free up any space for anyone else at UT, but he'd be a great addition for a smaller school; kid has heart.

Edit: Didn't see the Swafford comment. I guess Toney leaving could free up a spot in that sense if he's currently taking a scholarship.

I wanted to say thank you for all of the prayers for my PaPa. His surgery actually got postponed to this morning due to an emergency case. He had three bypasses and a couple others will have to be stinted at a later date. The doctor commented that he is an extremely strong 84 year old and he is right. He and my Na have been married for almost 66 years and being able to be here for her and having so many prayers has really helped her through what we hope was the worst of this. Thank you again for all of the prayers.

Oh what was really interesting is the doctor said that one of the arteries has been so blocked for so long that his body had actually started growing tributary arteries around the blockage. His body was repairing itself! God is awesome and amazing. Praise be to him!

Great to hear. Continued prayers for his recovery.

So which of these recruits have named Tennessee as the favorite/everybody would be SHOCKED to see him go anywhere but Tennessee?

Just trying to see who we got in the bag... for a friend

Hey man, I gave you a like for this yesterday but didn't have time to post...but you definitely won the internet yesterday with this one! :good!:

Our OL might be new playing together but they're not a bunch of freshman, most are talented upper classmen with experience. They just need to gel and play as a unit, I have faith that Mahoney and Butch will have them ready.

Our DL wasn't very good and that's being nice. The new DL won't have as much experience but it will be much more talented.

And don't forget there will be much more talent and experience at just about every other position around the OL and DL. It's going to be easier to mask OL mistakes with guys like Hurd, Helm, Wolf, Malone and Pearson added to the offense. And the same with the defense when you add Maggitt, JRM, and all the talented freshman competing for spots in the secondary and on the DL.

Bottom line, team 118 will be better than team 117.

I agree with most of this. However, it will not be 10-2 good. 7-5 is what I think and nothing wrong if that happens either. If they play well and compete and he adds another top class then it will be heck on wheels very soon.

Disagree pretty strongly there.

If you follow sabermetrics, you'll see he's doing things you simply don't see at his age.

Back to back 10 WAR seasons is absolutely incredible.

Trout if healthy will be one of the greatest of all times. It will happen and the big WAR numbers are mind boggling.

I guess I just expect a lot from all of them. I know realistically there will be a spectrum of contributions among any class of recruits. Every class has transfers.

There are a lot of young defensive linemen on this team. They need to grow up fast.

Yep we prob will have to rotate alot to keep them fresh and avoid wearing them out halfway through season. I fully expect Hendrix, Barnett to make an impact along with the EEs Owen and mixon. Not sure what Jakob does with position change but interested to see his growth this summer. We will see if Sawyers and Robertson are ready. I really like Robertson on either side of the ball. Mosely I don't expect to see field his first two years.

This team is young up front on both sides of the ball, I just don't see them begin strong enough to hold up when we play the elite teams in the SEC, in a couple of years maybe, we need a lot more talent and bodies up front before we can play with the big boys.

how many elite SEC teams are we facing with big time talent all over the field and a proven commodity at QB?

Yeah you can keep thinking that. This team is more talented than the Vandy teams that were causing hell up front on both sides of the ball.

There were Vandy teams causing hell up front? Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention. I thought there were Vandy teams beating other teams that either weren't talented, had key injuries or weren't trying hard enough (2012 Vols).
