Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

On the QB race, my hunch is Riley wins out. He's been doing something in practice since he got here that keeps making the coaches put him right behind Worley. He has all summer to work with the receivers and in the film room (due to that new rule). I think they put him through the ringer at the O&W game because they wanted to see how he'd handle it. I keep reading he easily has the best arm and surprising athleticism. I think he comes back from the summer as the most improved QB and wins the battle by mid-August.

With the talent he will have around him we can live with a few mistakes. Plus, CBJ won't want to be breaking in a new QB during what will likely be a make or break 2015 (given the lunacy of many in our fanbase).

I think we average at or above 30 pts a game, with most of that coming against the wieners on our schedule (e.g., Vandy, Chattanooga). I could see an elite defense like Bama totally shutting us down though with our issues on OL.

On balance we will be a lot of fun to watch even if we lose 5 or more games.

This is what I see and I've gotten the idea that this is Butch's mindset. I'm not sure about Bajakian. The other thing about this rotation that's somewhat of a plus is that it gives you a veteran backup in Justin in case of injury or something.

I think with this much time in the system both dobbs and rf should be ready to play. Unlike last year when noone but jw was ready

But knowing that CBj still benched jw. So I think he will give a young guy a shot as he know the ceiling is much higher. And if a young guy were to struggle it just makes for an easier playing time pitch to 2015 qbs

I guess I don't agree very much with the recruiting aspect of our QB situation. First, I think we'll already have our 2015 QBs committed before the first game and second I think the QB commits will be watching our OLine recruitment/development as much or more than our guy under center this year. We're loaded at the other skill positions on offense but we appear to be very thin on QB protection. That's got to have them thinking. jmo.

Alright fellas, who do you think will be the startimg QB at the beginning of the year? Will he get benched for someone else later, and if so, what will be the reason why? What positives that he displays will be the reasoning for him starting?

Let's get this discussion going right up in here

Worley wire to wire hopefully. Dobbs Red Shirts and he and Ferg get another year to grow and prepare for a QB battle in 15. If this happens it means Worley steps up and has a good year and I pray that's what happens. We all should. Ferg should handle mop up this year so Dobbs can RS. Then two Soph battle it out next yr and Gentry or Gibson RS.

That is how I see it playing out. Worley has a good SR year and Dobbs takes a RS ideally.

I think this will go exactly the way the Butch has indicated since spring practice. Worley/Ferguson. Subject to how Worley responds during September will determine when and how we see Ferguson. If Worley is holding down the position, Ferguson will probably get a series here and there except during mop up time (either direction). If Ferguson does not perform well and steadily improve we will see Dobbs move up. Likewise if Worley bombs out, Ferguson steps up and Dobbs is next in.

I expect Worley to play reasonably well and be a steady, calming presence. He will get guys into the right positions and spots. His success will be directly linked to Jake. Jake has to play call to Worley's strengths or else it will not go well. He did not do that last season. He total left the slants/digs quick passing game out of the game plan when it came to Worley. Will see.

.... Yeah, you still don't get it. Whatever floats your boat dude.

I work with kids that play D1 and have former teammates that have played for Saban and Bobby Bowden. Pretty sure it's not hard for me to work with athletes. Hell my next door neighbor growing up went pro after playing LB at Louisville. You're just running your mouth. Pretty sure I'm in better shape than you right now. But your post is BS in itself. The guy shared news and was excited. You come with the don't get excited talk as if the kid isn't good and his strength isn't even man coverage. I like personally reading that the kid is working hard on his weaknesses. But no you want to come off as if the kid shouldn't have allowed a catch. Which is how I read your post and I didn't put any words in your mouth. The tone of your post was exactly what I responded too.

Well said. Dude coming off cocky as a mofo and all holier-than-thou concerning football. We have some very knowledgeable posters here when it comes to football and flowd82 is one of them, but his posts here are a little ridiculous. I normally like his posts, but damn...he isn't the be-all, end-all he tries to come off as.

Get him, TBB! Flowd has turned into the suck. I had to put him on ignore recently.

Yep...I think he has fast-tracked himself to my ignore list as well.

I agree with your opinion on Ferguson, I think he wins the job as well. I won't be disappointed if Worley starts the season as the starter though, I think he's plenty capable and if he earns it, he earns it. Either way, I think we'll be good in the QB department this fall and beyond.

From what I saw in the spring game Worley will be the starter against Utah State. If anyone else goes in for whatever reason I look for it to be Dobbs. Dobbs will stay ahead of Ferguson as long as Fergy has the trouble keeping his head in the game. Worley's experience and his leadership abilities will help him a lot. Dobbs quickness and ability to see the gaps in the defense will be an advantage for him when he's in. I'm not sure who the offensive players favor but one of those guys needs to take a leadership role.

It's may be a bit funny that you mention Riley keeping his head in the game because I think the knock on Dobbs with the staff is that he thinks too much, maybe over-thinks. Ainge said Riley's problem was that he wasn't very good at reading pass pro. I honestly think Riley just plays on instinct and his cockiness in being able to make plays is not always supported by the results. I think maybe he is the opposite of Dobbs mentally. So the winner may be the one who becomes more like the other the soonest.

I believe Worley starts this year and depending on the success against the early part of our schedule and free of injury will dictate if he stays the starter for the remainder of the year. I think he can be a serviceable QB with the tools around him and hopefully, a much improved defense.

Also, I'm on the fence about RF and JD. If Worley starts the entire season, I say redshirt Dobbs. However, I'm not sure if RF gives us the best chance to win if Worley can't get the job done. Nothing, other than practices, has reflected him being a good in-game QB.

Whoever gets the job, I hope they can run far with it and do great things.

The best thing that could happen is for Worley to have a bust out year and finish his senior year a winner. If not, I do believe that RF will come and I hope he becomes a mature winning QB that we can count on for the next two years. It sure would be nice to finally get a stable  j/k QB and start winning some championships.

Riley's going to end up the guy IMO... Too much of the special that makes a better QB to discount...arm,confidence and swagger mixed with athleticism to boot...always have said I trust Butch to make the right call... If he picks one of the others it will be so... People on here who freak out at the thought of RF starting should embrace that concept...it helps :yess:

Ha. The winner also could be the one that becomes less like the other (just looking at the bad parts) the soonest. Really I just hope one of the QB's break out and becomes a true starter and that someone becomes the top backup and the team follows their lead.

I think Riley Ferguson is the most talented QB we have. He just has to put it all together mentally. Whether he does in time for game 1, will be TBD. If the season were to start today Worley would be the starter.

Worley will remain starter until he begins playing poorly and then Dobbs or Fergy will start at some point during the season.

There it is. Probably shared by about everybody in the RF.

How many of you saw the Knoxville news report where the Knox Sheriff's Dept. and UT police broke up the huge "block party" and made several arrests? The Sheriff's Dept. has already fired one officer and suspended 2 more for the way they "manhandled" a kid they arrested. I wonder how many of these characters were at the party the football players had. I know there are cops that do their job well but there are also a few bad apples that let their badge go to their head. We need to keep the good ones and throw the bad ones out. JMO

It was ridiculous. A reporter tried to interview him on the street today and he refused. This guy had been demoted in 2011 when he refused to follow orders as a sgt. in charge of a unit investigating a possible hostage/firearms situation at a house. SWAT had been called in and this bozo had his guys raid the house before they got there when he had been told to stay back.

Folks should not confuse KCSD with KPD officers. Big difference.
