Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

If Jenkins stays healthy and IF Pig is back, I don't see a secondary that can stop our receiving group.

I really don't.

For real for real tho.. we could do a constant in and out rotation at all receiver spots and these defensive backs will get drained by the 3rd quarter. Then, peanuts baby

Yeah I agree. But I don't think everything the coaches are doing is about the incoming guys. We're not going to win a ton of games with only freshman all over the field. Some will be ready, some definitely won't be. I think we're gonna get good help from lots of unexpected places this year, from guys like Bynum, Foreman and Swafford. The good thing is that most of these guys will have be playing really good football in order to get on the field. They probably won't be as physically talented as the freshmen, but they must have a clear edge in the mental aspect of the game. There's value there too.

On defense these are some of the incoming guys I'm hoping can make the 2-deep.

Hendrix SDE
Henderson WDE
Ev. Berry CB
Weatherd OLB
Bates OLB
Bryant ILB
Kelly S
McDowell S
Gaulden CB/NB/S

So yeah I think even as 1st years they could be better than the alternatives. I could be wrong on some of them. It is what it is. Maybe you can manage the rotation to minimize the lack of experience on the field at the same time but I guess we'll see. Butch has said they're going to have to play. Of course his list may be different from mine.

I couldn't disagree more. We went and had a great time. We met lots of people, all of which were, at worst, courteous, and at best, hospitable. The only downside was accommodation. Got the hotel six months out and was 10-15 miles away in a bad area. It was the only area hotels were available for a reasonable price. That probably has more to do with my notorious hotel cheapness. But I refuse to spend 250+ to sleep off some booze for a few hours. Spent 90 and witnessed an arrest.

Traffic was god awful for us. USCe fans were cursing and taunting children. Had too many USCe fans cursing and throwing garbage. It was miserable. Not to mention they played that god awful song at least 50 times in one half. I came in as a neutral patron. No homerism at all as Tennessee was not playing.

I've been to a lot of game days and stadiums. USCe was the worst. Bama, LSU, UGA, UF, FLAvsGA, etc were all better experiences.

The USCe traffic wasn't normal game day traffic. It was governed by stupid and lazy cops letting stupid people cluster f&@k the road.

I don't know, Lane was always better than Neal IMO. YPC was much higher.

That was the perception because Lane just seems to be the better RB. 2012 there was quite a bit of separation.

2010
Neal Fr 46 carries 4.28 avg
2011
Neal So 27 carries 4.96 avg
Lane Fr 75 carries 3.73 avg
2012
Neal Jr 156 carries 4.54 avg
Lane So 120 carries 5.48 avg
2013
Neal Sr 215 carries 5.23 avg
Lane Jr 101 carries 5.29 avg

Marquez North fits the mold of a Dez Bryant, Calvin Johnson type of a WR. If we had a comprabable QB last year, his numbers would have been even better.

I can't wait to have a stud kicker for 4 years. Such a blessing to have a guy who is not a liability.

Makes in game coaching easier and will single handedly win games.

Yeah, but we'll just have to live with Medley until volatil jr. gets here!

For real though, you are correct. It would be so nice to not have to worry about gimme EPs and FGs in close games. I just knew Palardy was going to miss the game winner against USCe.

Surprised any Hotel rooms were available with their players living in them for free and all.

Right now I would probably draft CM. If you run a 34 then his ability to play and space cover and rush the passer would be very valuable

Or vp. But until we at least see a game it is just so hard to gauge pro potential of those guys. But he could be cp nasty

I just don't see him being anything like CP, except the dreads (very important).

VP doesn't seem at all like a freak athlete to me, he's small, decently fast but not lightning quick and fast.

His hands and ability to find/high point the ball seem to be what makes him elite, whereas CP was elite for his athleticism, not particularly for his ability to catch the ball but what he did once he had the ball. JMO

Dude made SC Top 10 in one of his first practices. We talkin about practice

For his hands, not his ability to make people miss or for leaving a trail of defenders behind him and making them look like they're wearing bricks for shoes.

I think I'll say TK Jr. He has potential to be an elite safety from a physical and cerebral standpoint... Those are highly sought after in the NFL.

Plus everyone already said the other ones I was gonna say.

Pearson is 6'2" 180. I wouldn't really call him small.

I'm no expert at film study but his cuts look violent to me. Reminded me of cp on the change of direction. Def not cp on traight line speed

CP has 40 lbs on him. That's relatively small. And it's not like he's a freshman who will be adding a ton of weight. You really saying that VP is in the upper half of weight for SEC WRs?

Edit he's the smallest WR on the team.

Here is something for you all to enjoy. Take a few moments to go back in time. When I watch this and hear each play being called it takes be directly back to where I was and who I was with while watching these games (yes, this is going to show my age). So many good times and I think we are getting back on track for many more. Enjoy and Go Vols!

That's fair, but most guys that height and weight are quick. CP was that quick with a lot more weight, which is what made him special.

JMO, and I agree he'll be special, but more for what he does before he catches the ball, not after.
