Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

Looks like he may have ran about 30 or so yards with the ball in the air about 4.5 seconds. The ball had good loft going up and coming down. My question would be, would the ball stay up 4.5 seconds in 30-35 yards? If so he might be able to actually do this.

It could be fake, but it could also be real. I used to try that every once in a while when I was still in high school. Just never caught one at that distance. But he is probably faster than me though. Its all about how high he throws it.

Punts have that much hang time, not throws. He sluffs it off to the side, it was clever and the kid is still fast.

I don't think the pass/catch video is fake at all. It says the distance was 25-30 yards, and by my count, the ball is in the air for 4.5 seconds. Very reasonable for a fast player if you can get some hang time on the ball, which he obviously did.

EDIT: others are right, IMO. The way the ball comes off his hand, that thing is landing behind the tree somewhere. I still think it is possible to do, but he didn't do it in this one.

Ahhh yeah. They voted on what game to wear them in right?

It's a player led team. That's jones' style and it's been going on since he got here, well, developing at least. We've got a 13-member player council now so maybe we're making progress. (BTW, how does it work when the alpha male of your team gets arrested? Does it earn him even more cred with the team? I'd like to see the minutes of that meeting. :))

From last spring:

"The offense came out on Wednesday (April 3), and we had a terrible, terrible lift. Coach (Dave) Lawson wasn't pleased with us at all, and Friday morning we came in and had a 6 a.m. workout, and I think A.J. Johnson and Curt Maggitt stepped up and said 'Hey defense, let's join the offense. Let's come and lift. We're all a team.' Things like that," Worley said. "We had a couple guys miss it; just didn't show up. I can't speak on their part or anything, but we had a team meeting Friday after that lift. A.J. Johnson told all the players to stay in after the coaches left. He stood up, called a couple guys out and that's exactly what we need. That leadership and accountability. Hold these guys accountable to their actions. It was good to see some guys step up like that.

"This is the greatest amount of accountability we've been held to. I mean, it's great to see individual players take ownership of this team."

That is a staple element Jones is urging in his program.

On a s/n, I wonder if Justin has gotten the memo yet that he is supposed to be one of the guys stepping up like that? Probably, huh? It's been a year since that incident. Snail mail is at least that fast. :)

Kid would have to have a cannon to get NFL punter hang time on a throw.

Yeah, I had thought about that, but didn't consider it too much. I think if you are throwing upward like that, it may be more reasonable. I think of myself airing it out, and I'm thinking maybe 3 seconds hang time. Not really sure.

I've noticed that I was much better, now that I have gotten older. :)

Haha my high school sports days have also gotten better with time.

:eek:lol: Same thing happened when Pearl was hired. Basketball has much looser rules about transfers/commitments etc. than football. We'll live.

The whole AAU thing is crazy to me too. So much dirty stuff goes on under the table with all that. Closest thing football has is 7v7, but it isn't anywhere near as bad.

Off topic:

Any of you Nashville guys been to Etch to eat? I'm going there next week, I think. Wondering how it is, because I've read great things.

Edit: Can this be moved to the "off topic" thread? My apologies.

Etch is great. Get the Filet Mignon.
