I don't think this has anything to do with it

he could have easily fit this scheme - just seems as if he wasnt cutting it for whatever reason

it sucks to lose the guys that are really good like janzen and darick and adouglas - but this wasn't Carr - he was supposed to be good coming out of HS and just never could cut it - if he can't make this DT depth chart then we really shouldnt be mourning his loss imo

I do. He specifically wanted to play end. Never liked being moved to tackle and apparently had a bad attitude about it. They told him he needed to lose a certain amount of weight if he wanted to play end in the 4-3 and he didn't do it, so they moved him to tackle.

the only ones I am not in a wait and see mode on are jones and thigpen - our only real true success to this point has been in recruiting and those are the 2 imo most responsible

now I am hopeful that with greater talent a lot of these others guys will show as good coaches but those are the only 2 i am 100% buying at this point

I think the RB's were much better last year.

I am not so sure about that. His long arms and big hands qualified him at DE or OT. As an end in the 3-4, you aren't getting to the QB as much as a LB. My guess is the coaches wouldn't let an elite talent leave if they knew he would excel at one position or another. IMO, they would put him at DE if he could excel at the position, and he couldn't. Just my two cents.

Dang first the whole b ball team now the fotball team ... What's in the water in Knoxville

I think the football defections were expected. I think the VQ guys and others said there would be a few that left. I think this is typical.

Carr is a surprise and disappointment, but he had his chance this spring to make a name for himself and he didn't do it. I'm more worried about the effect his leaving had on OL depth. That's a thin position talent and numbers wise. Any key injuries there and 2014 might look like the first half of the 2013 UF game on a continuous loop...

I know we were told to expect more players to leave post-Spring but I'm surprised they're lineman.

Makes me nervous. I can't help but hope the guys not yet on campus are going to be able to help right out of the gate. I'm just not sure how much I believe that.

Get out the calculator- where are we now?

15 spots as of now I believe for the 2015 class. 11 current commits, 12 if you include Dews.

Yes, I am still including Woods as all the services still list him as a commitment. Also including Pig toward the 85 as it seems he will be back as of now.

None of the guys leaving, outside the possible exception of Pig was even in our Spring 2 deep. Gotta have that attrition to take a decent sized class this year, even if its along the lines.

Well there's two recent examples to go by in our league: our own oline which just graduated and more recently Ole Miss' dline. Our recently graduated oline struggled a bit that first year but they were also all freshmen unlike the oline for this season. Even so, they still did ok - biggest problems I remember were snaps. OM's dline benefited greatly from their injection of freshmen.

That said, depth is the biggest thing that worries me for both sides. But if neither of the one's leaving were going to contribute this season I can't really count that as a loss and of course depth was always going to be an issue on the lines this year. Still, I don't like losing linemen.

Attrition to some degree is always expected. I would like to see the staff starting to develop some of these guys especially along the lines. Seeing them processed w/out ever doing much of anything is tough.

I'd argue we haven't even had an absurd amount of attrition and the staff has developed a lot of the talent we have. Not everyone has it.

Cant really do anything if the kid himself isnt motivated. It would be like stepping on the gas pedal of a Ford Mustang GT with the rear up off the ground.
