Bama's D tho. It's a Dobbs thing not just SC. Mizzou won't be able to keep up with us on the scoreboard.

Also that D you just statistically exposed, held Mizzou to punts on 10 consecutive possessions.

Missouri's offense is awful. We all know that; it's one of the worst in the conference. That wasn't the point of any of the post, and you're not doing South Carolina's defense any justification by citing that.

(On that note, though, that offense in Carolina that's averaged 36 pts a game (ranked 23rd in scoring and 23rd in total offense) was held to a season-low 20 points against Missouri's defense, which also got 4 sacks against a team that's only given up 16 total across 9 games (totaled about 9 tackles for loss that game on a team that's 23rd against them). They also held SC to about 142 yards less (338) than their 480 y/g average, 76 yards below (219) their 19th ranked 295 y/g passing average, and about 66 yards below (119) their 185 y/g...not to mention their 4.88 yards/carry average became a 2.8 yards per rush one, threw 3% below their average completion rate, they were held to 8 less first downs (18) than their game average of 26 (they rank 8th in that regard), their 8.01 y/pass fell to 5.9 yds, and compared to their 41st ranked 43% 3rd down conversion rate they were only able to convert 8 out of 21.)

But that's all beside the point. I wasn't trying to say Dobbs was bad or any such thing.

I just don't think that South Carolina's defense is remotely good enough for it to be a proper litmus of what's going to be the norm or how he or this team will perform on offense on a week to week basis (they gave up 35 points to Vandy of all teams). Using the Bama game's one thing, but this was the worst defense in the conference...and most of college football.

It was great to see him play through against the adversity of such a high-scoring output by the opposing team, though - that deserves props - but at this point I'm not sure how indicative this last game's numbers are of what the weekly output will be or should be expected to be.

I think that the next two games will probably be a better the better indicator of what's the norm/ average level of play for this offense / how it will do against average or better defenses (especially with two defenses that very well could be much more in his face - they have 23 and 31 total sacks on the year - than this South Carolina defense which really is unable to generate remotely any pressure at all...this is where I'm more interested in seeing how he and this offense perform/ have changed).

Just for context, we played far worse against UTC...The two weeks before Kentucky can only improve the timing between Dobbs and his receivers and don't even think that playbook has been used up! Lots more wrinkles galore!

True. Honestly - granted there's a difference in the level - UTC looks to have had 16 more sacks on the year than South Carolina (24 to 8). Those numbers would have to be adjusted though and I'm not sure how to properly do that.

Don't overlook Kentucky's D either. Here's some SEC stats and rankings on Mizzou, Kentucky and our Vols. Threw in USCe stats in there for comparison.

SEC Ranks

Sacks
1. Mizzou - 29
4. Vols - 24
5. UK - 23
Last. USCe - 8

TFL
1. Vols - 69
2. Mizzou - 68
7. UK - 54
Last. USCe - 30

Int
2. UK - 13
5. Vols - 10
5. Mizzou - 10
11. USCe - 5

Passes Defended
2. UK - 51
7. Mizzou - 46
10. Vols - 34
Last. USCe - 32

Fumbles Forced
1. Mizzou - 11
5. UK - 8
8. Vols - 7
13. USCe - 3

We will be in dogfights the next couple weeks and will be closer than most think.

Thanks for the stats. You may be right on the analysis, however, you did not compare those stats to the schedule of each team. Not even close. USCe is the closest in difficulty - but no Bama or Oklahoma on their schedule either. Mizzou and UK have been on a cakewalk compared to ours.

EDIT: Swansoned by Eric. :)

Not sure where you got the PD number from; it was pretty different compared to what ESPN and the SEC have

Where'd you find the TFL and Fumbles forced stats? (The NCAA's TFL numbers just look slightly different.)

Fans are overrating KY. KY on road has been really bad. They have lost 3 straight with a 4th coming this wknd and we play them after a bye week at home.

Fans are Under rating Mizzu. That defense is stout and so are their special teams. They play very well on road. If you want to worry about a game that's the one but I think we win at home. Swamp and Willam Brice haven't been their same intimidating selves this year and Neyland has been rocking and will be rocking even more coming off two wins

Good post, but I would have to think our schedule is a bit harder than Kentucky's and A LOT harder than Missouri's thus far.

Agreed. While stats provide great quantifiable information, you have to look at the level of competition. Kentucky hasn't exactly played any world beaters.

Missouri's schedule = Cakewalk

But Kentucky's has been pretty difficult just slightly less than ours due to them not having a tough OOC game yet.

UK - Miss St, @LSU, @Missouri, @UF, USC
TN - @Ole Miss, Bama, @Oklahoma, @UGA, UF, @USC

Ours is def. harder, but not as significant as vs some

Well, a lot of that has to do with the passing teams we've faced as well. The secondary looked incredible but we weren't even playing a good passing attack, much less a great one. Scar and Bama have taken advantage of Coleman and it opens up everything. So, I think that's a big factor. The next 3 match ups we should be more improved. Also, gotta factor in the lack of depth on D

You would think a little rest from the bye would help with this as well.

I was going to argue that UT's schedule was an appreciable bit harder than Kentucky's, but you beat me to it.

I just hope our defense gets back to its earlier season form. I think the lack of that lightning player they've had to face the last two weeks will help.

If I'm Kentucky though, I take my best wide receiver and have his last name legally changed to Cooper.

What was your starting weight? You're in the 150s @ 5'10 now right?

I'm currently doing GSLP. Trying to get my lifts up.

Began @ 184, down to 147. Currently at 158, mostly LBM gain. Current BF% is 10.12. First two weeks after the cut were not smart, and most of the fat gain was there

That's great news. I hope North can get over all these little dink injuries he's had this year. He's been out there, but he hasn't looked the part much of this year.

I'm really surprised about Lane. Dude couldn't even walk Saturday night.

You think your son was trying to be like his super fit dad when he tried to stop that truck from rolling down the hill? How is he by the way? Any more stunt work?

I don't think that thought crossed his mind. Lol. Love that kid. Enjoying kindergarten this year. :hi:

Shew I still think about that story from time to time. The unimaginable fear that must have hit you running down to the truck.

My oldest, a son, recently turned 5. I don't know what I would do if something happened to him. It would crush me

IMO bama and ole miss are better than Miss St and will beat them. Miss st poor defense is going to catch up to them especially versus Bama if Sims stay hot.

Yep

Still think about when I see those two dents in the back bumper, and of course the gate is still bent

Ankle injuries can be very strange and surprisingly painful even with no major damage. I have torn ligaments and tendons, and broken a few bones which are all very painful. I once also was playing a pick-up game of basketball and rolled my ankle. When I went down I thought for sure it was broken because of the severe pain. I remember laying on the ground beating the floor trying to get through the pain. I had to have a friend help me off the court. 3 days later I was back out there full speed. You just never know with ankles.
