What if the large donation, that those present at the meeting tonight will have an opportunity to give to, is for a massive project...say Neyland Stadium renovations? What if the only way those asking for money know it will be given by those who have the money is if the terms of the deal proposed for the new football coach are met?

Definitely a power play. As long as they don’t waste that move on Mike Freaking Bobo

One day Tennessee’s reality will be as fun as it’s speculation. At least that’s what I tell myself.

This. Most rational fans aren’t expecting 11-12 win seasons consistently.

What we demand/want isn’t unreasonable at all. A consistent winner who doesn’t lose to the Vandy/Kentucky/South Carolinas of the world. Get us to Atlanta once every 3ish years. Happy fans.

Exactly

I'm not buying these rumors and I'm really not even sure what they are suggesting is taking place but if y'all think for a second Big Jim Haslam is going to fall victim to some sort of power play you are high. Money would be better spent greasing the skids on Big Jim than trying to back him into a corner.

I'm sure there are some money meetings tonight with the Board on campus the same time as Homecoming weekend. That part I buy.

But yeah, the Haslam rumors go down this path every cycle. The other boosters are upset and are going to stage a mutiny!

Just to be clear my post above about power play was an assumption boosters force the AD hand.

Is there a rift between the boosters? I can’t keep up with all the drama flying.

The rumors being suggested is that all the booster except Haslam are fed up and they have proposed a deal that both the AD And the AA can get on board with. If Haslam and his crew will ok Gruden, they will set the University up with a VC.(Dont really know much about this part) Has to do with making UT a top 25 research facility or something. Beaver basically laid it down that Charlie Ergen was the man that was spearheading this operation. If Haslams dont get out of the way, all the other big money booster will stop donating money.

If there is any validity to any of this, it would seem there is more going on behind the scenes than a coaching search. A change of powers possibly.

The rift is either between boosters or between the academic and athletic administrations, depending on which rumor people are currently running with.

I think Mullen would be incredible hire for us

I will never ever ever understand this Mullen worship. He is a good coach, who we would want fired in 3-5 years for getting his teeth kicked in by Saban, Kirby and whoever UF hires. He would probably beat most others, most years.

I know it’s been asked but don’t believe I’ve seen an answer. Bald Biker posted since his wife posted a few weeks back?

No. Don’t know if that’s good or bad. He sounded pretty ticked off after the UGA game.

Hey Baldy, if you are lurking, can you drop in and give us a 👍🏻, so we at least know you are ok?

I guess it is a matter of agree to disagree, maybe? He seems to do more with less at Miss St. Maybe he could do more with more at Tennessee...

Not a worshiper of Mullen, but I think he could play out well here.

I thought there was a report out earlier today that Chip Kelly was contacted by Florida and said he has no interest.

Lol I’m mostly kidding but the 2nd post about UF wanting to sink their teeth in our guy screams Kelly to me. Could also apply to many other candidates though so who knows.

And apparently they approved the motion for the first phase of the stadium renovation so if you are to believe what I posted above things are going exactly how the Gruden thread theory says.

Also, Currie said this..

Currie: Great philanthropy so far, with new generation of donors stepping up just in last few months

Philanthropy is key. 340 million total--phase 1 is $180 million. Originally wasn't that big. But want to get it done faster.
