I think there's a decent chance that the way they've handled this firing hurts them. Although I've questioned why we've hung on to Jones this long, I have faith in Currie and I think the way he's playing this could ultimately be the right way to handle it. He appears to be very shrewd. I could see him, Phillip Fulmer, and Peyton along with this top job swaying Frost to come here. This is a goldmine.

I believe Currie is letting Jones continue because of the influence of Fulmer. Fulmer understands how it feels for the team, coaches and players to be put in that position.

IMO it was time for Fulmer to go but it could have been handled much better.

We we really think he and Currie are working together?

My guess is there still are some significant issues between the two.

Probably but I'd hope there's a trustworthy intermediary between the two.

ETA: Random but funny fact - Fulmer technically outranks Currie on UT's organizational chart. :)

Predicting some new coaches in 2018:

Tennessee - Gruden
Florida - Mullen
Nebraska - Frost
Ole Miss - Strong
Oregon St. - Mcelwain
Texas A&M - Chad Morris
UCLA - no change
Arkansas - no change
SMU - Dooley
USF - Butch Jones
Miss St - Norvell

Bruin, Time sometimes heals old wounds. Hopefully both UT, Currie, and Fulmer have matured since 2008.

UT and Fulmer could have handled the situation better. Hopefully there is less bitterness on both sides.

The end goal for Currie and Fulmer is the same- make Tennessee what it used to be. I bet they’ll handle their old feud maturely and do what is best for the university, together, over anything.

Doug Mathews has kind of hinted at this. I think Fulmer is definitely playing a role here.

You are forgetting the bad taste the AD search was for Fulmer. Not saying that made it worse but it didn't help.

I would put Norvell at Arkansas or Ole Miss. You really think Strong would go to Ole Miss if he didn't come here? From what I know about Stricklin now, I would also be a little surprised if Mullen goes to UF.

Agreed - it would explain much of what is happening

What if he's doing it to demonstrate to Fulmer that he's serious about burying the hatchet? Deferring to the man he helped oust in what was an acrimonious process?

I mean, if we're just tossing stuff out there.

Bring me Scott Frost and call it a day!

It’s so easy

I just fear the boosters aren’t going to love his experience, and we’ll have to learn about Frost the hard way iver the coming years as we get a “proven” coach who wins 8 games a year

Just as good as any, put it be pretty weird for him to take heat to make up for something that occurred almost 10 years ago; if Fulmer is still that resentful over it, I doubt this gesture towards Butch would do anything for him.

Whoever hires Frost will be feared across the SEC. It might as well be us. I mean, it's been well over a decade since we've been a serious threat.

Austin Price on TOS said in his opinion there is "nothing" that will happen unless Haslam approves it.

I'm going to go cry for a while.
