Here is the way I see it. The meeting and any meeting they have had regarding Butch's departure has ended with Butch not wanting to resign. Currie is playing this week by week. If the losses continue to mount up maybe Butch caves in to save face and his attractiveness to other jobs. All while Currie and the administration work behind the scenes on the new coach. If Butch continues to lose and refuses to resign he will be fired accordingly. Just a chess match to see if Jones will give it up and save UT some money. Either way he is gone.

Yeah I think that is/was part of it. I think there is more to the story now though. Either way, the details will come out eventually. Just gotta be patient and hope Currie is working behind the scenes.

LA Vol, we talked yesterday about all this stuff needing BOT approval. Is Hubbs just mistaken on this?

No wonder we have such a hard time making good hires. What a mess.

One of Jimmy Hyams major sources is a BOT member. That’s probably where he is getting the 0% chance Gruden comes here imo

It also shows how you can’t take these never statements seriously if some members of the BOT didn’t even know Currie was being announced as AD

I think Butch was out after the loss then the Florida stuff happened and Currie did not want to be viewed as being a weak AD who was forced to make a reaction fire just because Florida did. Just my thoughts on it.

Chad Morris might be better than 4 of those names. SMU was a terrible program before he showed up.

Morris is a good coach, IMO.

He would be towards the bottom of my list, but he's still a pretty big upgrade. Main question would be whether he wants to be anywhere but Texas, IMO. He was getting some chatter about being a candidate for Vandy and some other better jobs than SMU back in 2013/2014, but he he wanted to be coaching in Texas. I wouldn't be surpised if he holds out for a P5 job in the state there.

I'm sure Currie has the votes in his pocket. It doesn't have to be unanimous, and not all members are voting members. But I would be surprised if anybody would dissent. A majority want him gone. They'll just make it official when they decide it's time.

Hubbs is probably talking about Charlie Anderson not knowing about Currie. Charlie wanted Fulmer for AD, so they went around him and voted in Currie. To say it caused bad feelings would be an understatement.

Certainly not a shred of evidence for that, and plenty to the contrary, though admittedly no one knows for sure.

Personally, I’m going with the evidence

I agree...I really believe he is the nex-gen Urban. I don't think he could unify the fans like a Grudski hire would, but I think in the long run there is a good chance we would wish we had hired him.

Jimmy Haslam and Raja are thick as thieves. Raja headed up the AD search committee and Jimmy was on it, along with Charlie. Raja and Jimmy supported Currie; Charlie wanted Fulmer. Dr. Davenport and Raja are friendly, as well.

Still think it's a mess.

Currie may have made the right decision to wait if he is targeting a current coach employed. Several coaches were asked about Florida today causing some distractions to their current seasons. It can get old and annoying answering questions every week like they will have to.

Is Hubbs correct that all he needs to do is "inform" them of what he's doing? He didn't mention a vote.

Just some thoughts -

Why would Mullen come to UT? Not money
Why would Mullen go to FL? Not Money

Why would Frost go to either place? Money

What is the single biggest obstacle to recruiting a coach at either place? Pressure

What is the single biggest qualification from an AD perspective for holding the job at either place? Salesman

I don't think Mullen wants the pressure and I have no idea if Frost can even handle the pressure of a big 6 SEC program. FL ate up and spit out Ron, Urban, Will, and now Jim. It should be easy to outrecruit a coach against FL just using the Urban saga alone. A man who won national championships for the school said I'm out of here. It wasn't because he was done with coaching. It was he was done with coaching at FL.

All this musing has me thinking if we don't get Gruden or Harbaugh, maybe our best bet is to go with Kiffin. Offer him say $3m the first year, with a $1m dollar raise for each of the two succeeding years. It's an idea and I think he can handle the pressure.

Miss State = no real pressure
UCF = no real pressure
Iowa State = no real pressure
NC State = no real pressure
Memphis = no real pressure

NFL = Pressure
USC = Pressure

It's easy to think about Mullen, Frost, Campbell, etc., doing a good job when they're in a low pressure environment. What happens when the heat gets turned up? Butch said after being here for 3 years or so it had taken 20 years off his life. We are the legions of the miserables unless we're winning and it isn't any different at Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, or LSU. Might be something to think about. I seriously doubt that's ever going to change, most definitely not anytime soon.

In this vein I would've also considered Les Miles if he wasn't already 63 years old. I figured he might be able to snag an occasional prized recruit from Louisana. Bob Stoops might have been another consideration but I think Bob, at 57 years old, probably doesn't want the pressure any more either.

Kiffin was a bad contract - that was on us
Dooley was a bad hire - that was on us
Butch cracked under the pressure - jmo

Ron - I don't know. He was only there 3 years (16-8 conf record & top 25 ranking all 3 years). I guess he was fired because he wasn't Spurrier 2.0.
Urban - cracked under the pressure
Will - never able to recruit/develop a QB
Jim - cracked under the pressure

Our next coach will likely get 3 years. Butch began losing fans in 2015, many more in 2016, and almost everyone in 2017. The first two years he got a pass because he could show improvement in a number of areas where we had been failing. The next guy isn't going to be able to point to recruiting or APR scores and such to justify his job in the early going. The perception is he will be inheriting a better situation and the expectations timeline is probably going to be shortened. jmo.
