In the board meeting where he was there solely to.... present the stadium renovation plans and get approval on said plans.

I don't get people complaining about this.

Exactly what I was getting at.

Our athletic director talked about stadium renovations in a presentation about..... GASP.....stadium renovations?!?!

Gotta remain calm.

The first six words of this post make the rest of the words irrelevant.

Not really. New gen of boosters are a major chunk of the renovations. They pull the strings with some big money and it's not a rumor. it's there for you to review. Do you think there is a higher chance these folks want a high end coach or not caring?

I think it almost definitely will be under. The fact that you hope it is smacks of immaturity and shortsightedness.

No, it smacks of being sick and tired of the AD not giving a crap about the fans. Vol fans need to send a message that it won’t be tolerated. Simple

I'm going to say "fair enough" and just let things play out. Admittedly, I can't judge a hire before it is made. But I have a feeling a bunch of you guys are going to be on my side of this when this all plays out.

Again, I really hope I'm wrong on John Currie.

I think it all depends on what your expectations were to start the process. I'm not going to be upset when Chad Morris strolls to the podium (mainly because I think he's a good coach) but also because I think that he would be a reasonable, realistic hire.

Anyone who believes even a sliver of the Grumors immediately has their views framed by them. Gruden is not realistic and was never realistic. But if you believe the whole thing COULD have happened, anyone else being hired is an outrage and a failure.

I don't think he's a high level booster, I think he's the kid of one.

This I could believe.

Him talking about buying scotch for posters on vn just seems forced. Like us simpleton coors light drinkers are just gonna think "well he drinks scotch so he must be rich. Rich people are boosters. He's a booster."

Just hard to believe a legit source is trying to punk the AD on twitter with 240 followers.

He is a troll. He does not present any accurate information that could not be gathered by the average fan following the situation.

Ok, I can get on board with just about everything on here...

Except the part where you gloss over the fact that a man spent 6k and then, years later, became a BILLIONAIRE.

Let's not diminish that fact down to "guy spends 6k, does the same thing over and over, and lucks into A BILLION DOLLARS."

LOL, I doubt it was that easy...

Edit: And just so this isn't interpreted into a defense of Haslam...

F. The Haslam's.

When I was a kid we still had full service gas stations that employed mechanics for auto repair, like Goober and Gomer. That's the picture I was trying to paint. :)

My concerns about Currie are rooted in what some KState alum colleagues of mine warned me about when he took our AD job. I blew it off at the time, but his handling of this coaching transition is making me think they weren't wrong.

But like I said, you guys are right that I shouldn't judge the hire before it's made. I'm open (and hopeful) that my assessment of Mr. Currie is not accurate.

How frigging old are you? :)

I remember Goober & Gomer as well...and the 20 cents per gallon gas they sold us.

If they have beef over the Snyder and Martin stuff, I’d still side with Currie in both instances. If there are other things then I’d be interested in seeing what they are...

When I was in HS I had a motorcycle and bought gas for less than 20 cents a gallon when stations would have gas wars. However, I'm not that old. I'm just the right age. Bobby Scott spoke at my 9th grade football banquet. I was the most improved player. I got his autograph and for the next several years wanted the saints to wise up and bench Manning so Bobby could play. :)

On the other hand with all this Gruden stuff.....

It's weird to me that nobody is talking about him buying a home here. Hank brought that to the board and it's like we all just glazed over it. I guess it's hard to even let yourself get excited about Gruden considering last time.

When that news hits the radio waves it's gonna blow up the grumors again.

Yeah have some worries from things they said and others have said. Also have some respected media that thinks highly of him.

It's really hard to judge because he hasn't really had many coaching searches at all. All he could do is improve facilities at KSt which he did. He couldn't do anything football wise until Snyder wants to hang it up. Martin wanted things ADs in most places wouldn't agree to... hard to blame for hiring Bruce Weber who had solid resume for a K st hire.

Now he is at a place easier to sell. So as much as it hurts we have to wait and see because we just don't know what he is thinking. The final product is the bigger deal. Most of the freak out is coming from anonymous message board posters or vol twitter

I think that's because it was "old news" in the Gruden thread and on VQ. It was mentioned weeks ago he was buying a house in Knoxville. So that excitement was many many roller coaster rides ago. Non believers like to say it's just him buying a house for his son or it's a retirement home for his wife to be close to family but that he still isn't going to take the job.

And the most interesting part of that house story is that apparently the house he bought wasn't even on the market and was owned by none other than Haslam.

Well, I remember gas wars and the prices slipping into the high teens...but I'm not that old either.

I became a Vol fan at a rather young age...our neighbor's son was Al Dorsey who became an All-American for UT in the 60s. He went to Tennessee as a walk-on. My first college game I attended was the UT - Army game at Neyland.

Instead of speculating, how about some real world info from a guy in the RF?

Adams and Matthews are correct about the prototyping and expansion of the travel centers. Happened in the early 90's. Was personally involved in the underwriting of the original financing package. Pilot had a really good guy as CFO back then that could translate and achieve what the Haslam's wanted. He left several years later to do his own thing. It was never going to happen the way it did with just c-stores. They created a nice niche in the travel center business that made it happen along with Marathon as their supplier/partner. All of that was very well thought out and orchestrated by the Haslam's. It was during that period that brother Bill split out to go into politics. Big Jim and Jimmy handled it all from there.

JMO from many years of experience in handling a multitude of businesses. When successful people in any industry decide that it all transfers over to different industries - watch out. Collegiate and professional sports is far different than travel centers or media distribution or real estate development or satellite TV or .......

Their passion for UT is the same as ours. The pride, egos, and being closer to the seats of power are greater. They have injected big bucks so they feel entitled to control - which is a major problem in that they think they know more than they do and butt heads with each other. They are also gun shy of fully trusting UT officials just as we are when it comes to hiring and administering. Deservedly so. The BOT has been moved back to a more conforming, less independent policy setting body. I consider that good for UT athletics and UT as a whole. It had become ridiculous. Know your role and perform it in accordance.

If it's the Haslam house on Lyons View it is across the street from Cherokee and 2 houses down from the University Prez house and right on the other side of that is Charlie Anderson.

Then don't get season tickets. Don't make donations. The actual cost of a single game ticket is a drop in the bucket compared to other donations.
