In the board meeting where he was there solely to.... present the stadium renovation plans and get approval on said plans.
I don't get people complaining about this.
The first six words of this post make the rest of the words irrelevant.
I'm going to say "fair enough" and just let things play out. Admittedly, I can't judge a hire before it is made. But I have a feeling a bunch of you guys are going to be on my side of this when this all plays out.
Again, I really hope I'm wrong on John Currie.
I don't think he's a high level booster, I think he's the kid of one.
Not really. New gen of boosters are a major chunk of the renovations. They pull the strings with some big money and it's not a rumor. it's there for you to review. Do you think there is a higher chance these folks want a high end coach or not caring?
Ok, I can get on board with just about everything on here...
Except the part where you gloss over the fact that a man spent 6k and then, years later, became a BILLIONAIRE.
Let's not diminish that fact down to "guy spends 6k, does the same thing over and over, and lucks into A BILLION DOLLARS."
LOL, I doubt it was that easy...
Edit: And just so this isn't interpreted into a defense of Haslam...
F. The Haslam's.
I think it all depends on what your expectations were to start the process. I'm not going to be upset when Chad Morris strolls to the podium (mainly because I think he's a good coach) but also because I think that he would be a reasonable, realistic hire.
Anyone who believes even a sliver of the Grumors immediately has their views framed by them. Gruden is not realistic and was never realistic. But if you believe the whole thing COULD have happened, anyone else being hired is an outrage and a failure.
My concerns about Currie are rooted in what some KState alum colleagues of mine warned me about when he took our AD job. I blew it off at the time, but his handling of this coaching transition is making me think they weren't wrong.
But like I said, you guys are right that I shouldn't judge the hire before it's made. I'm open (and hopeful) that my assessment of Mr. Currie is not accurate.
How frigging old are you?
I remember Goober & Gomer as well...and the 20 cents per gallon gas they sold us.

On the other hand with all this Gruden stuff.....
It's weird to me that nobody is talking about him buying a home here. Hank brought that to the board and it's like we all just glazed over it. I guess it's hard to even let yourself get excited about Gruden considering last time.
When that news hits the radio waves it's gonna blow up the grumors again.
When I was in HS I had a motorcycle and bought gas for less than 20 cents a gallon when stations would have gas wars. However, I'm not that old. I'm just the right age. Bobby Scott spoke at my 9th grade football banquet. I was the most improved player. I got his autograph and for the next several years wanted the saints to wise up and bench Manning so Bobby could play.![]()
i think that's because it was "old news" in the gruden thread and on vq. It was mentioned weeks ago he was buying a house in knoxville. So that excitement was many many roller coaster rides ago. Non believers like to say it's just him buying a house for his son or it's a retirement home for his wife to be close to family but that he still isn't going to take the job.
And the most interesting part of that house story is that apparently the house he bought wasn't even on the market and was owned by none other than haslam.
