Heres a post from Boro in the Gruden thread. I know many give him a hard time, but this is spot on and how many of us feel. Its not about Gruden.
I don't want Frost, or any other young dynamic upstart. If UT was a young dynamic upstart that would be ok. We're not that. We are a blue-blood legacy SEC power, with facilities and funding to rival anyone in the country. We've moved away from seeing ourselves that way because of our self-inflicted decade of misery. It's time to change the perception in the same fashion that Alabama did.
I want an established, proven, championship level coach who will compete for championships against the best our conference has to offer. Who my list includes is irrelevant...but it doesn't include anybody at a current mid-major program, with less than 3 years of D1 experience, or who has started being spoken of because they are beating up on the scrubs at a non-P5 conference.
I still hold us to a higher standard than that....even if the powers that be don't seem to. I'll continue to, or I'll cease to care.
Because it was a hit piece. Nothing at stake for the people making claims. Haney could have made stuff up or added his own extra details to it. Whats it matter? Nobody can fact check it. Cant write a scathing huge article like that without having something concrete. It was irresponsible. Hes still a douche bag for it.
Doubled down not long later with something similar and his employer showed him the door.
1. I honestly wasnt sure what you were getting at because you didnt make much of a point about anything other than they were successful businessmen.
2. The fact that you couldnt answer the question and resorted to a personal attack is telling.
3. The fact that the meeting is all successful businessemen makes it a worse look, IMO. I get the frustration, but why try to railroad a meeting that had a set agenda into something completely off topic?
I totally agree that guys giving that kinda money have a right to be upset and want access.
But youre framing it like this wasnt a meeting with a set agenda where everybody knew hed be outlining a plan for stadium renovations based on their donations. Everybody going into it knew the topic wasnt going to be about the coaching search or Butchs firing.
For someone who has been so critical of journalists for playing gotcha journalism, cant you see the connection to boosters doing this in a conference that was being streamed?
Antone is a good guy. He's a source for a couple of posters on this board.
Butch asked him to do some sketchy stuff, Antone declined, and he was blacklisted.
I'm telling yall, there's more of this stuff about Butch. He treats people like dogs behind the scenes.
How's he still the coach? Because Currie hasn't made a move. We certainly thought after the Kentucky loss that a move was very possible on Sunday. We were prepared for it and chased rumors all day.
I like Antone. I have never had an issue with him. Things have turned really bad here at the end. Antone worked with Jones for 5 years and praised him alot over that time frame. But this is an ugly divorce involving a VFL. It's not a good look.
Did he make up stuff or add details that you are aware of?
I cant call writing an article that turns out to be true irresponsible just because people didnt want to hear it at the time. It seems he had some pretty good sources.
Im thinking that article would be viewed much differently by Vol fans of published today as opposed to when it was.
At this point I have to believe Currie has a replacement in pocket and is trying to wait as long as possible for that coach's sake.
Nothing else makes sense.
