Here’s a post from Boro in the Gruden thread. I know many give him a hard time, but this is spot on and how many of us feel. It’s not about Gruden.

I don't want Frost, or any other young dynamic upstart. If UT was a young dynamic upstart that would be ok. We're not that. We are a blue-blood legacy SEC power, with facilities and funding to rival anyone in the country. We've moved away from seeing ourselves that way because of our self-inflicted decade of misery. It's time to change the perception in the same fashion that Alabama did.

I want an established, proven, championship level coach who will compete for championships against the best our conference has to offer. Who my list includes is irrelevant...but it doesn't include anybody at a current mid-major program, with less than 3 years of D1 experience, or who has started being spoken of because they are beating up on the scrubs at a non-P5 conference.

I still hold us to a higher standard than that....even if the powers that be don't seem to. I'll continue to, or I'll cease to care.

How can he say who his list includes is irrelevant? He has some rather demanding requirements and I'd kinda like to know who fits those requirements and is available?

I can understand high expectations but please let me know who you'd be happy with who meets those expectations.

Think about how much hype there was last preseason. It seemed like Butch had finally built a powerhouse here. And boy has it crashed abruptly. I admit I turned a deaf ear to all the transfers, the Haney article, and all the other issues. But it seems that Butch has all the while been draining this program. On top of all that, he’s a terrible in game coach. Whoever the new coach is, he has a lot of building to do. Brick by brick.

Legal question here:

Can you fire a person without cause and then after the fact discover cause and proceed accordingly?

Hopefully that makes sense

Because it was a hit piece. Nothing at stake for the people making claims. Haney could have made stuff up or added his own extra details to it. What’s it matter? Nobody can fact check it. Can’t write a scathing huge article like that without having something concrete. It was irresponsible. He’s still a douche bag for it.

Doubled down not long later with something similar and his employer showed him the door.

Did he make up stuff or add details that you are aware of?

I can’t call writing an article that turns out to be true irresponsible just because people didn’t want to hear it at the time. It seems he had some pretty good sources.

I’m thinking that article would be viewed much differently by Vol fans of published today as opposed to when it was.

1. I honestly wasn’t sure what you were getting at because you didn’t make much of a point about anything other than they were successful businessmen.

2. The fact that you couldn’t answer the question and resorted to a personal attack is telling.

3. The fact that the meeting is all successful businessemen makes it a worse look, IMO. I get the frustration, but why try to railroad a meeting that had a set agenda into something completely off topic?

I totally agree that guys giving that kinda money have a right to be upset and want access.

But you’re framing it like this wasn’t a meeting with a set agenda where everybody knew he’d be outlining a plan for stadium renovations based on their donations. Everybody going into it knew the topic wasn’t going to be about the coaching search or Butch’s firing.

For someone who has been so critical of journalists for playing “gotcha” journalism, can’t you see the connection to boosters doing this in a conference that was being streamed?

I had no intention of attacking you, I was teasing you. I mean you do have a rather large head..see..kidding...kinda 🙄

As far as the rest...ChattaTNvols post sort of changed my mind a little regarding Curries approach to this process, but he better get this right.

Antone is a good guy. He's a source for a couple of posters on this board.

Butch asked him to do some sketchy stuff, Antone declined, and he was blacklisted.

I'm telling yall, there's more of this stuff about Butch. He treats people like dogs behind the scenes.

I imagine a lot will come out after he's fired.

How's he still the coach? Because Currie hasn't made a move. We certainly thought after the Kentucky loss that a move was very possible on Sunday. We were prepared for it and chased rumors all day.

I like Antone. I have never had an issue with him. Things have turned really bad here at the end. Antone worked with Jones for 5 years and praised him alot over that time frame. But this is an ugly divorce involving a VFL. It's not a good look.

Well of course it would be received differently now. We have people blaming him for BK's concussion and accusing him of getting a DUI right now. Everyone wants to believe he is human scum right now.

You still don't know how much of that article was true or embellished. It is believed the main source for that article was a guy who was fired. And Haney doesn't know if it was all true either.

Butch Jones hates offensive linemen apparently.

Punching Crowder, playing Kendrick with a concussion and bullying 6'4" 330 pound former first round draft picks.

My God, you are insufferable these days.

It's not about size. It's about Power.

Butch had it, Antone didn't.

At this point I have to believe Currie has a replacement in pocket and is trying to wait as long as possible for that coach's sake.

Nothing else makes sense.

For all the good Butch did for the program, he is going to leave in disgrace and humiliation, and it's been entirely his own making.

I am grateful for a lot of what he did. But at this point, don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you.

Man. He was spot on in just about everything he said.

I thought it was a hit piece last December.

In my five years on VolNation, the lesson I can say that I have learned is that when you hear highly negative, depressing news about the program, our coaches and our players from sources that have not already distinguished themselves as trolls, there is a highly likelihood it is spot on and you should believe every word of it.

I'll take that lesson and apply it to this current coaching search and the strange fact that Butch Jones remains our head coach for the moment. And I will expect this all means the worst.

This is the optimistic take, but is observationally equivalent to the pessimistic take, which is that we are just as dysfunctional as we've always been and the backbiting and politicking are continuing to paralyze the program.

Whoa there gramps, don't break a hip with that aggressive post! I wouldn't ban you. You are a national treasure. I'd put you in a museum next to all the other fossils.

I’m holding you to that. Bout time we staffed my people in that outfit! :aggressive:
