Recruiting Forum Football Talk XLI

I've been trying to understand this myself, and I think Currie gave the answer last night. I think he believes keeping Butch head coach is the best way to get this team to a bowl game for the players and especially the seniors. I don't think he trusts any of the other coaches to be an interim coach and lead the team to at least 6 wins. I think he's playing for a bowl game.

I don't buy it. Tennessee hiring Gruden would be the talk of the country. Would immediately put us back on the map. Recruiting would take off.

If you have him you announce it as soon as you can.

He's not going to be the coach here.

Answering the public questions was what made AV to reach out and talk privately. But Zit reminds me of my wife she's always right.

Not sure what that means. I ducked into the Gruden treads a few weeks ago when ATL and beaver were talking about golf courses. I didn’t see anything that could make me believe the guy wasn’t a troll.

I’m pretty sure atl just confirmed the guy had some information that made him think he was connected. That doesn’t sell me on any of it. Sorry.

I lived this exact same coaching search 5 years ago. Sorry I’m jaded.

It's not the same at all. You are speaking and proving to be absurd WITH YOUR STATEMENTS as I detailed.

Regarding Gruden, you have no tangible proof that he "just likes the attention"

Get a better argument.

Doesn’t matter, he along with a couple other posters will fight it to the bitter end and turn their nose down at others for even thinking it.

Oh, it's absolutely true. He'd be on the phone with Cade Mays and Trevor Lawrence as soon as he could be.

How do you know he hasn’t talked to them? No one has said anything either, but I’m just saying that u don’t know he hasn’t talked to them. It’s not a violation.

My thoughts:

UT has done everything they can and should do to try and get Gruden. I think in the end he doesn't want to coach or coach here at UT. But it won't be for lack of effort or money on UT's part.

Coach Jones will coach longer than anyone wants him to this year - he already has - I keep saying this and no one really listens (that's okay).

Butch is absolutely done - he will not coach in 2018 for UT. But the timing of when this will be announced is not known.

I think our best program changing hire with the most potential upside is Scott Frost.

I hope this is who we end up with as he will redefine and reshape our culture into winning football - snatching the souls of our opponents and crushing their hopes and dreams.

I believe all of this. Every single word

Remember, Butch and Gruden are friends. Maybe Gruden didn’t want his friend treated unfairly. I think the info about the assistant coaches being at odds and none of them wanting the interim is legit, too.

I have a really hard time believing none of our assistants wanted to be able to put "Interim HC at UT" on their resumes. I can believe that maybe they asked a couple and they both said no.

You're spot on.

Same info I am getting is they are going after him from two different contacts but not done. Beaver is a tool being used to apply pressure and get word out and he has an agenda. Hope it works.

Bingo! And MIT feels the plan they have put together this time is bulletproof. He feels there is no way they can say no, because they have covered all the bases so that everyone from academics to athletics wins with this deal. Sounds like they learned where they fell short in 2012 and adjusted their game plan. Butch says “what are you talking about learning from you mistakes and adjusting?”

Haslam/AD better be the ones going after Gruden or it has zero shot. This idea that rogue boosters are gonna bring a deal to the table for Currie and Haslam to ok is not worth fantasizing about imo.

One booster in particular has more money than Haslem

These are sure things:

Jimbo
Gruden
Patterson
Fuente
Mullen
Wittingham

These guys are risks:

Kelly
Frost
Kiffin
Calhoun
Doeren
Houston
Morris
Taggart
Campbell
Tee Martin
JBC

We are not in a place where we need to take a risk. We need a sure thing.

LET US GO!!

I really like Wittingham, Mullen, and Fuente, but I don't think any of them are sure things.

I still think it goes back to trusted, time tested people have said Gruden doesn't want to coach in college.

If that is true, no plan would be bulletproof correct?

Why is it required for him to come out and say he's not interested for every single rumor? That's between him, ESPN and the program talking to him. You don't have a right to hear statements from him on every job/rumor.

With a sitting coach he better say he's not interested. And Hyams had baseball hire and currie hire wrong or no knowledge of it.

He may be but that does not make his info proven. You can be totally legit and have bad info. It happens. You can also succumb to wanting to give people a little hope or get a little attention by stretching things a bit. This is a message board after all with zero repercussions.

Show of hands who have taken every word/rumor that's been floated out there as the gospel truth?

Bass...put your hand down.

Pretty easy to make that claim and have a pretty good shot of it being right. I also bet that not a single one of those sources have talked to Gruden since the courtship started, and if they had, why would Gruden tell them the truth about if he’s interested? All that does is create a media storm.

I’m a fan of Frost, he has the potential to be elite. I think Gruden’s chance to be elite is much more of a sure thing.

At the college level? Frost has accomplished much more than Gruden. It's a totally different job than coaching in the NFL.

This is the last I'm commenting on this. It is not required of anyone to comment on every rumor nor is it indicative of "liking the attention"

I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the ride for the search for the next man, woman or cisgender that leads this team through the T. If they get it wrong, my priorities simply change. :hi:

Agree whole heartedly. Does anyone have any king of idea if we have a decent shot at getting Frost? Larry just said he'd be in play at UT, UF and Nebraska.
