I can respect you coming out and backing him. But my disapproval doesn't come from impatience or a personal desire to know what's going on. It arises from the fact that his silence and insistence on doing things on his own timeline is damaging the program right now.

I understand fans doubts. Just for the simple fact of the last 10 years has been terrible. But until he does something to justify the disapproval he's getting just for doing things on his timeline, I will hope for the best.

I do however agree with people on that he better have his guy locked up NOW, and not wait to try and hire someone at seasons end. That old fashioned way of thinking could get fans turned on him real quick.

His reputation and stature depends on this hire!

Far as you know.

Do you think they would've fired him if he had beaten GA and was going to win the east again? Nope. Back to back east titles and they found a way out because they want to be elite.

If he had not made the death threat comments he would still be coaching. Right now and next year.

Atlanta Vol in the Gruden thread:

Sorry to everyone for not being around much but there has been A LOT going on. This week has been an utter **** show....on so many levels.

Their has been hesitation internally to let butch go early due to the reputation that UT has gotten in that regard externally to the coaching community...however I think the hand may get forced on this one. And when I mean let go I mean publically let go....lets not mix that up. He is gone no doubt about that but the timing thing is really playing havoc on this whole process make no mistake about that.

I was delivered either an incredible smokescreen yesterday or something that tells me there is trouble in paradise on the gruden front (lets say it went along the lines of currie reached out to xyz coach to gauge interest what are your thoughts... I won't name the coach as I don't want to throw gas on that log) . I can't tell which yet but I have been on the phone all morning with one of the larger boosters (in ktown) discussing our wonderful browns owner who literally could screw up anything he gets involved in so that tells me all I need to know on that front. Now take all of that and couple it with the next important piece of info.

I was then informed early today of a meeting that will take place that I am supposed to attend (can't give timeline out) that will be about a very large donation opportunity for some folks in attendance. Now I can't imagine in my right mind that they would approach anyone about a meeting like that unless there was something extremely positive was going to happen.

I think the band is about the start playing...the biggest question will be is it who we want playing or not.

No, it fits what has been reality for us. Florida makes a good decision while we're doing nothing.

I applaud your optimism. I lost mine after Florida. Hopefully Currie will give it back to me, but I doubt it.

There's no optimism involved in what I'm saying.

Austin Price isn't the source to get your UF coaching search news.

DO you all actually believe there hasn't been conversations between Currie and several coaches or at least their agents? Florida parting ways with Mac has in no way affected our search. If they get Frost it won't be because we didn't fire Butch earlier.

At least somebody gets it.

Exactly. If they get Frost it's because he prefers that job. He knows our interest.

Someone help me out, what does all that mean?

It looks bad to me other than that last part.

For context. Current thought in that thread is the coaching change is part of a bigger effort by boosters to change the structure/culture of UT's relationship with the AD. The change is being spearheaded by Charlie Ergen and ends up reducing the influence/power wielded by the Haslam's hence their opposition. Currie is caught in the middle since Haslam was the one who got him hired.

Name something definite and not speculative. While we’re young. :)

Off the top of my head:
Decommitments from recruiting class, negative stories arising in the media that damage the reputation of the university, players quitting, starting from behind a division rival on our coaching search, player discipline slipping, resulting in suspensions, coaching staff dissension, fan apathy and boycott movements, and an overall sense throughout the nation that our program is in turmoil.
