The best we can hope for is that we are LSU getting Saban from Michigan St. Doeren's record isn't overly different than what Saban's was when he went from MSU to LSU (although Saban had a better conference record, Doeren has 2 Conference titles from the MAC). LSU was also coming off an 8 loss season when they brought in Saban.

I know it's a stretch, but it is at least possible.

I guess that's possible. It's also possible that there is an alternate universe where Ben & Jerry's has negative calories and broccoli makes you fat. But, again, I guess it's possible.

How is this a good idea? How does this help the program at all? It just makes it more and more of a joke and a dumpster fire.

No. fan backlash has reached a point of diminishing return for program fandom perception. A good to great hire, the fan base wins and looks passionate.

A fanbase continuing to be ticked off, same old, same old on perception. nothing gets worse. In fact, I think it starts to lean the other way the more this admin shows it's ass

A bad hire equates to a bad admin and a cleaning of the house in short order. The feedback will be visible and monetarily damning. Needs to happen that way.

Haslams and Currie are in a one win situation and that isn't to do things their way. It's time.

It's been reported they are going after a no nonsense, stern disciplinarian type of coach because of the perception that the players went rogue. I Wonder if JJ's rant had anything to do with that line of thinking?

At this point all we can hope for is that Doeren see's how much he isn't wanted here and how much NCST wants him to stay and he stays. Make Currie have to go for Les, Brohm, and Pruitt. For me Tee isn't ready for a big time program, as far as kiffen, don't want a childish mind running the program only to run after the next shiny toy job that comes alone. Go GET LES! Get this program rolling again!

Saban was a guy everyone wanted after that last season at Michigan St. No one wants Doeren, no other teams.

Biggest disappointments:

1. Schiano was our #1. There was no search. That’s why our AD went to the Bahamas and didn’t hire a search firm. Also why he let the grumor stuff go on and on. It gave him cover. Also why he kept CBJ around so long. Gave him cover.

2. We never offered Dan Mullen. There was never a report of an offer. We have seen no numbers. If we were really pursuing him we would have at least drove the price up for Florida. He was never even considered.

3. We had a chance to escape with an up and comer and the Prez/Bev pulled the plug on it. Or Currie offered money he couldn’t get which makes us look even worse.

4. I believe that we went after Mike Gundy knowing he would not come. I mean we are taking a plane landing there in Stillwater while the guy is in Dallas. Makes zero sense. It was a charade. They knew he wouldn’t come.

5. We are considering a known buster at NC State who is on the hot seat, can’t get an extension, fans hate him. He makes $3m and we are offering this guy $4.5 supposedly.

All of this is sickening and it all points back to our leadership. Jim, Jimmy and Bill Haslam, Bev Dav, the President and John Currie.

Leadership at UT is terrible, but Doeren is not on the hot seat and is getting a raise and extension. NC State doesn’t want him to walk. That’s just Basilio nonsense.

Conversely if you give them a coach they love they will run through a wall for him and keep their sh!t straight

Summed it up nicely. There's only one way to fix it..... Walk away.

Regardless of it all, we should know something on Doeren soon whether good (he declines) or bad (he accepts).

Drylo - he is CBJ a year ago. That is who we would be hiring. Your Bruin act is getting old.

Very substantive answer

You can do the research yourself. I looked at his record yesterday and saw a couple, IIRC. I just looked back until I found one (UCF 2014) — not going to back through every team he ever played again as your personal research assistant. Maybe you should do that before you post next time.

His seat was hot going into 2017 because of bad losses to ECU and BC.

Luckily for him, he had a roster that was old enough and experienced enough to cover his incompetence.

I never thought I would be hoping the 6th person my alma mater pursued for our head coaching position would say no so we could move on to 7-12.

This is really amazing. If we were waiting on Butch Jones to agree to come back I would have the exact same feelings.

Protesting every coaching hire isn’t going to result in better and better coaches wanting to come here. What in the world would make you think that?

I agree. I hate it for our fan base but I hate for the dudes that strap on the pads for the Vols more. They need a coach that they'll run through that wall for. I think they did that for Butch the first couple of years and then gradually they saw that their faith had been misplaced.

Then why would you lecture fans to support this nonsense. The only way things will ever change is if we have attendances of 20k in Neyland. You take the money away, its the only recourse the fans have. If not we will be no better then 3rd in the east at best. I will always be a fan, but I'm done giving blind support to this football administration.

I am typing this for myself as much as I am for any poster here, so take it with a grain of salt.

The admin cannot be changed fast enough to make any difference on this search.

There are so many conflicting issues including fan reaction that they are paralyzed in which direction to go. Going from no leaks (Schiano) to the Titanic (Gundy) showcases that.

Currie now realizes nothing he can do would save his career here and he has five million reasons not to care about trying. He also has death threats and violent tweets to cause him to believe it is our fault.

He/They wouldn't be right but it's where they would be since few ever like to blame themselves.

The admin we have has a very specific coach in mind and it will not meet fan standards.

Purposely tanking their selection process only pushes us farther down their list and not ours.

As many that truly know the situation have said it will get worse before it gets better.

Treat it like an Irish wake and enjoy the memories as we bury the friend that was UT football.

No need to dump the casket and piss on the General.

Change will come when the horrible hire prompts horrible attendance and recruiting.

I do pray we make it through without losing too many.
