If UCLA is smart they say they will flip to Nike at the end of their contract with Under Armour or pay the upfront costs to break contract and Chip gets that in his contract that they will. Win-Win for UCLA, Chip and Nike.

1. The NCAA element concerns me. Going back to Cam Newton, and then the more recent stuff, I don't think this is fully fleshed out. The Chip Kelly matter is closed. I don't want another Tyndall situation.
2. Recruiting. I don't think it's an automatic that any coach will recruit well to UT just because it's UT. And as I've asked many times, how dependent is his program on MS Jucos, and does that come to Knoxville with him?
3. Assistants are a concern to me. He has had many, many DCs, and apparently is loyal to a fault to a subpar OL coach. That dog just doesn't hunt in the SEC, as we saw with Butch.
4. Real concerns that he can't win big games. In their Orange Bowl year, I don't believe they beat anyone better than 8-5.

The counter to these is not just "Starkville." And they aren't prohibitive arguments. I think he's a significant upgrade, but I think there are more significant ones out there. Especially if we are talking 8ish million. He's not worth that.

All fair point. But I stand by my view that his upside is higher at UT. I will confess I don’t know if he would win us a national title. But I think he have us playing well consistently and nationally relevant most years. That may be what we need at this point. Our stature in college football has fallen a bunch. I don’t think our fans have fully realized it yet.

Btw, pred on VQ says Richmond failed a 3rd drug test. Walt wells is being fired due to Kendrick situation and blakely kicked off team for an incident with nutrition staff.
