College athletes do receive compensation, but for football players it's not equitable to what they bring the university. And I know the argument that it funds other non-revenue sports, but that's lazy. Even if the athletic department runs in the red it's a net positive for the university in the form of marketing. Alabama is a prime example of how their football program has led to an increase in out-of-state students and more money for the university.
I've never understand what about sports makes people want to limit what athletes can get. I couldn't imagine telling anyone else they should shut up and be happy with what they have instead of fight for the right to be compensated fairly.
Well my lawyer 26 year old younger brother and I have been discussing this since my last post. I understand your point a little better now, but he also understands mine. I am 49 years old, my perception of the word is mainly formed from a few books on WW2 I read when I was around 10-11 years old. The desciption of Nazi stormtroopers and Italian facists being called "jackbooted thugs" was my first encounter with the word. I do not and never have just pictured any particular race of people upon hearing this word.
Perhaps Jennings legitimately IS on his 7th strike (give or take a few) and has very, very poor odds of finishing his career at Tennessee without screwing up again based on a pattern of behavior.
Currie knows this and knows that dismissing Jennings will be a VERY unpopular move. To spare the new coach the backlash before he has even coached a game, he instructed Hoke to go ahead and pull the plug, seeing as how Hoke will be gone in a matter of days.
one week. in one week, he's gone. ONE ****ING WEEK. it was not his call.
Its all about context. Its totally fine to call someone whos out robbing and assaulting people a thug. When did thug become a racist word?
I grew up hearing my mom use it to refer to white trash rednecks almost exclusively. I still use it to this day. It's a great word. But I guess I'm racist for saying it now.
THE AD MADE THE CALL. AND THE EXAMPLE IS MADE. TOO BAD IT HAD TO BE JENNINGS. HE COULDVE DINE IT IN A CLOSED PRACTICE AND BEEN SUSPENDED. HE MADE TENNESSEE LOOK BAD. OUR SCHOOL. HE WENT ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND BLASTED IT TO THE WORLD. I HATE IT BUT HIS AZZ HITS THE ROAD. I SEE THAT AS A NEW COACH COMING IN AND CAN IN NO WAY ACCEPT IT. IF BUTCH GOT ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND SAID THE SAME THING ABOUT THE FANS OR HIS BOSSES, HIS BUTT IS GONE TOO. WHAT IF AN NFL PLAYER DOES THAT. THEN HEs NOT FOR LONG. JUST STUPID.
