I don’t know why I even bothered arguing with people who can’t see we need a proven winner this time around. And after Gruden is hired next week you low expectation having mfers are going to need to learn how to up your standards.
Ron, who is arguing that we don't need a proven winner?

Don't know what caused it, but while browsing something on VOL NATION screwed up my Font and seriously got everything out of whack. It's fixed but not fun.

I know what’s going on. My question is not an argument. If the P’s, and Grude say no , cause those are no brainers then who do you go to next?

Is it going to PC mode? If so go down to the very bottom left and switch it to iphone2012

Unless you don’t have an iPhone, in that case the best solution is to take your phone and go out back and toss it in the nearest body of water (pool, lake, river, ocean, birdbath, etc)

Ron can speak for himself, but I suspect that his point it that there are a number of posters here who would be content with any one of several named coaches who don't exactly make you want to line up for season tickets. I agree with him, for the most part.

I think Gruden is it, and I think we got him. Failing that, I would make a run at Peterson, Patterson, Campbell, and Frost, in that order. One might make the argument that Campbell and Frost are not "proven winners", and maybe so. But they are in the process of proving it, and I would be fine with them proving it here.

No other name that I have heard or can recall right now really would impress me, including Mullen, Norvell, etc.

Go Vols.

This is an old and tired argument. The players are our there working their asses off, watching their bosses and companies rake in millions that most of them will never see. They at the very least deserve the right to change employers without penalty and they don't even have that.

Bosses and companies making millions or billions happens with 99% of the jobs out there. there are also a fair amount of jobs that have a noncompete clause.

And Happy Thanksgiving to you too Ron

Ask Arkansas how that worked out for them.
We are talking to coaches who have won a lot games but it’s not good enough. I guarantee A large group of Fans wouldve been livid if we hired Mark Richt right after Georgia fires him.

I’m not sure who would be the next best option. And neither does anyone else, that’s the point. Could Campbell, Frost, Mullen or a dozen others become a legend at UT and win big? Sure, they could. But we don’t know that. Those guys are risks. This program can’t miss this time.

But what gives me comfort is that I think Currie has his man already locked up. I believe it’s Gruden. And he is in fact a grand slam hire that will instantly make us relevant. Oh and he’s a damn good coach that will stock the roster full of elite talent and go win ball games.

Fact.

Many would have hated the Richt hire and praised a Bielema/Petrino/Harbaugh hire. Fit and timing are as big of a factor as anything.

Richt is a winner. I think he just needed a change of scenery, and it worked out in his favor, as well as Miami's. He's doing really good things there, and can mine talent without leaving his area code.

I don't think he does nearly as well at UT. Miami is his alma mater, and for him was the perfect match.

I think people are confusing "proven big-time winner" with a coach who turns out to be a very good hire. The examples mentioned: Texas, LSU, USC...none of them hired "proven big-time winners". The fact they may have hired their first choice is irrelevant.

And when UW hired Petersen he was not "proven big-time winner". He may have been an up-and-comer, like Frost or Campbell maybe today. And he has proven to be a very good hire. But that's not the same as a "proven big time winner".

There are very few "proven big-time winners" out there now and it'll be tough to hire one of them.

Proven winners/established very good - great coaches in CFB:

Saban
Dabo
Meyer
Jimbo*
David Shaw
Peterson*
Franklin
Harbaugh
Richt
Gary Patterson*
Mark Dantoni

And the ones with a * we may have a shot at...even if it’s a microscopic chance. Just bc a coach doesn’t have as accomplished as a resume doesn’t mean he won’t be a great hire.

Throw out Campbell, Frost and Mullen and I agree with everything else.
