Lucky timing seems to be about the only way grand slam hires happen in college football.

This is exactly right. If Saban actually won a few more games in 2007 and bama hired rich rod instead maybe we would have gotten lucky in 2008 instead of bama. But they did and we didn’t. And We hired Kiffin and so on.

Arkansas arguably has done the best job at grand slam hiring recently but here they are again.

Proven winners/established very good - great coaches in CFB:

Saban
Dabo
Meyer
Jimbo*
David Shaw
Peterson*
Franklin
Harbaugh
Richt
Gary Patterson*
Mark Dantoni

And the ones with a * we may have a shot at...even if it’s a microscopic chance. Just bc a coach doesn’t have as accomplished as a resume doesn’t mean he won’t be a great hire.

How many of these were considered home run at the time? 3 or 4?

Saban
Urban
Harbaugh
Petersen (even Petersen wasn’t your typical HR)

The last part is true.

But it also won't keep many from calling it a great hire which is an answer you won't have on the front end either.

I’m convinced beyond any debate that there is one simple change that is within Tennessee’s power to make that would instantly make our job one of the most attractive in the SEC, all things considered.

It’s deeply unpopular with our fans but it would do us wonders.

Ask Arkansas how that worked out for them.
We are talking to coaches who have won a lot games but it’s not good enough. I guarantee A large group of Fans wouldve been livid if we hired Mark Richt right after Georgia fires him.

Obviously BB wasn’t the right fit at Arkansas. Personally, I think he should have stayed at Wisconsin. A very stable competitive program in a weaker conference. Winning his division was attainable every year. He chose poorly going to Arkansas. He left one of the best programs in a weak division for a weak program in the best division in America. Ego got the best of him.

So, regarding a few of the active HCs that have been discussed, their regular seasons end as follows (all times approximate and Eastern)

-Mullen: Tonight, 11:00pm
-Patterson: Friday, 3:30pm
-Frost: Friday, 7:00pm
-Campbell: Saturday, 7:00pm
-Petersen: Saturday, 11:30pm

Guess flight trackers will be in full force. Currie could easily have productive, face-to-face meetings with all five and be back home late Sunday.

Or, he could just stay in Knoxville and prepare for Gruden's announcement early next week.

Should be a fun weekend.

Ziti is the Florida AD out at their basketball game today? I know you’ve been very interested in this all week. Any update for us?

Just being the pessimist that I am, Mike Bobo's season at Colorado State ended the 18th.

I don’t know why I even bothered arguing with people who can’t see we need a proven winner this time around. And after Gruden is hired next week you low expectation having mfers are going to need to learn how to up your standards.

Yeah, because Gruden has won multiple national titles. Nobody in coaching more of a proven winner.
