Those concerned about Mullen’s recruiting, would you have the same concern with Petersen?

MSU has outrecruited Washington 3 out of Petersen’s 4 years in Seattle. Not to mention Petersen would also have to recruit a new area with new connections. Mullen is much more established in the south with his recruiting ties.

That's really the only question I have about Mullen, and it's a huge one.

*IF* he can recruit as well as Butch did we will be just fine.

Like 8 of his top 10 players in the 2017 class were from Mississippi JCs. Doubt that translates to here.

In other years, the vast majority of his signees are from MS. Just don't see him having a ton of great contacts that people trump up with his SEC experience.

Petersen is also in a different league with respect to development and overall coaching.

Agreed. I think Petersen could recruit borderline top 20 classes and have UT in the mix for the East every year. Whatever he does works and works extremely well. He's probably one of those coaches who somehow squeezes an extra two wins out of his teams every year compared to expectations. Butch seemed to lose an extra game every year.

Both guys will be able to sleepwalk to top 10 classes here imo.

I think they met with him this morning.

If he took the offer, I could see an announcement tonight or tomorrow morning with a presser in the afternoon.

Fits the timeline as well.

Im good with Mullen. Maybe not a splash but would be a solid hire with a lot of upside with our resources.

At this point I agree he would be my odds on favorite.

Hubbs sounds like a broken record talking about Mullen. Starting to think he might know something...finally. Or is being allowed to start speaking Hubbanese for "this is who it's going to be and I'm going to bring up the fact that I told you when we finally break the news."

My biggest fear with Campbell would be him wanting to bring most of his staff with him. I just looked through the current Iowa State staff and most of them came with him from Toledo.

There’s been so many egos and bullsh** between our staff members dating back to Dooley. Idc about assistants resumes anymore. I want a staff that is comfortable with each other and works together.

Yea, let's just ignore Mullen developing Smith into the #1 pick, Tebow, Dak who was recruited as a Fb by everyone and Nick who was "too lanky and unathetic" and his best offer was UTC. And then the multiple great defensive players he's put in the NFL too

Do you have concerns about recruiting?

I wouldn’t say Petersen is in a different league in development. Not even close. Mullen develops with the best of them.

Hmmm. Petersen has those lower ranked classes than Mullen and has been in the playoff. Mullen has finished second in the West like once.

So, Mullen has recruited better (has better players), but Petersen's teams have outperformed MSU? Mullen should've been in the playoffs at least once if we use that comparison.

Agreed. Both are great talent developers and would recruit just fine. No concerns with either in that aspect.

Curious how you can be concerned about Mullen’s recruiting and not Petersen. I would imagine it’s a little easier to recruit to Seattle than Starkville as well.
