Recruiting Forum Football Talk XLVIII (New Coach Edition)

Wouodnt doubt that team Haslam and Gundy both used the "talk" to their own benefit. Gundy used it for leverage, team Haslam used it to quiet the peasants and legitimize the search. I'm sure all parties winked and shook hands on the way out.

It's crazy. The Gundy offer was a charade. They intentionally used him knowing he would turn them down.

That Twitter account I linked is on the money. Why would you publicly offer Mike Gundy a ton of money and no one else? Gundy is a good coach but there are about 10 others you talk to if you're offering that kind of money. One of them would have accepted and we'd all be happy today.

They are determined to get a crappy coach in here.

In other words, Boosters probably did have Gruden set up, but he was never offered. Never offered Peterson, Patterson, or Chip Kelly. Jimbo is ripe for the pickings, and Texas AM is going to get him, without us even trying..

Morris would bring two Tennessee guys that had Vic Beasley, Grady Jarrett, Shaq Lawson, Kevin Dodd, Dexter Lawrence, Christian Wilkins, Austin Bryant, and Clelin Ferrell. But who cares about having a great DL?

And Haslam got to stick it to T. Boone in the process.

Hyams reported on the radio today so I'll say it, he was seen on video entering a casino I'm assuming in tunaca. I guess they don't want coaches gambling. It may not have been Hyams but it was on the animal.

Lol

Coming here in this environment with these idiots in charge would be the biggest gamble of all

Doeren just feels like a Dooley/Butch type of hire. I would much rather go with one of the Florida boys: Frost, Fisher, Kiffin. Or Venables.

These guys have been at the highest level, and would likely set their sights that high again. I am tired of being expected to be thrilled to be 2nd or 3rd in the East, and happy to go to the GE Lightbulb Bowl or whatever.

exactly....dave doeren had a great DL too and still couldnt win.

It's going to be Doeren. Absolute F- hire. If you have season tickets or are a donor, I would encourage you to cancel and stop donating to this steaming pile of crap of an athletic department. I'll be cancelling my season tickets in the morning.

I think this is the gist of it but I still feel like there is more to the story.

Agreed. The more to the story is the WHY. Why do the Haslams insist on having crappy coaches here?

I don't buy that it's simply a control thing or the desire to be the smartest men in the room. You can control very good coaches. Look at Gundy and Pickens.

You can up their salary when you're billionaires, and it's a drop in the bucket. No real sweat off your back. Or just ask for more donations from the lesser boosters. And you can look like a genius if you flaunt the fact that YOUR money pays their salary and that you picked them out, not the AD.

There's something else going on that makes them want to hire crappy coaches. Guys who are set up to fail. The average fan knows these guys are bums and knows that UT could get out of the gutter by spending a little money. But they refuse to do it.

The why has to be than just "they're cheap skates" or they want to hire some puppet.

I think now the angle for Haslam and Currie is to get a worse coach than Schiano so they can be like this isn't our fault you all didn't want our guy

JAV opening up on 247. Confirms what most of have thought. Currie always has GS as the guy. Tried to sneak it. Currie wouldn’t tender a formal offer to Mullen. Big boosters all went for Gruden. Currie didn’t make contact with Gru.

Once Doeren is hired, it's done. No sense picketing against him. He might be a terrible hire, but he didn't do anything other than take a job he was offered.

Bad administrations make bad decisions that lead to bad outcomes. We don't have to like it and we don't have to support it, but it's not Doeren's fault.

Bruce. Pearl. Everyone here wants to be the guy who found the next up and comer. That's my guess.

This is some straight up crazy "man behind the curtain" stuff right now. And more is going to come out, I'm sure of it.

I can't even look at Tennessee athletics the same way ever again. Not while the Haslams are there. It all feels like a charade. Just a plaything for a rich family. I understand Larry 100% now. He knows and has always known.

Imagine knowing this stuff and how bad it is for the past decade. That's why he is so down about the program and doesn't really care anymore.
