Quit with this Quarles crap. That is ridiculous. Heck if you are going for the ridiculous do what the Oklahoma fan board suggested, hire Van Jefferson's dad and get Van in a package deal. At least you get a really good coach and player that way. There are lot's of good HS coaches but just let CBJ PICK who he wants on HIS staff.

If Coach Z leaves, that's a great idea. He would be a terror at UT.

Anytime.... Any, time, you replace a coach, you are looking to make a clear upgrade.

At the very best, this move is not clear

But really even if it felt clear in a lot of ways it still wouldn't be clear. We would still be just waiting to see product on the field and see how it actually looked. So in a lot of ways, it's not that different. Just coming from a different place, looking for the same thing.

EDITED SATURDAY NIGHT: Added Doug Meacham and Billy Napier to the list.
I think Napier in particular is a long shot, but both names have come up a bit today.
Still hearing DeBord's name the strongest, but absolutely nothing is done at this point.

If Z left I agree but I do not want him to leave. Plus, I think it is a done deal for VJ to OU, I do not know about his dad but I think they need a recievers coach.

He's very replaceable. The only staff members we'd have a hard time replacing are Stripling and Martinez.

you're the guy that holds a grudge for someone achieving more in life than you.. HighSchool legend who never made it or a bench warmer his whole life.

I don't hold a grudge against you. I don't even know you. I just think that maybe you are a Mizzou fan now and that's ok. The problem is you are hanging out Vol message board pretending to be a UT fan. I excelled at the athletic activities I choose in high school. I didn't attend traditional college like a lot of folks. I joined the Army, started a family, got my degree slowly but surely, and now, through God's blessings, am very successful at being a Soldier. No. I don't hold a grudge against you for getting a college scholarship to play football. I think it is fantastic that you were able to achieve that goal. I just think you should request the Mods put a badge under your VN screen name that says "Mizzou Fan" so you can finally and truly be yourself. Good luck in your schooling and on the field next year. :hi:

Before you insult someone in our military you may want to get a better understanding of the many fine young men and women that enter it each year. In my group alone at basic we had a young man that tried out for para-rescue and was such a strong high school swimmer ( from Florida ) that he was told by the para- rescue recruiters he was a better swimmer than anyone they already had. Also we had a young man that had gone to a big ten school who I got to know pretty well. He had been written up in the papers before we went to basic because he had great speed in the 100 meters ( Track ) and had left the big ten school for some unknown reason. He ended up with me in basic. He had been in high school ROTC and had decided to join the Air Force instead. Out of 40 men 2 were awesome athletes. I can assure that even after that I met several in my Air Force years that had a chance to play baseball or football. One had been drafted out of high school in baseball. Another had turned down a chance to play football at a smaller school. None that I met showed any signs of bitterness that they had chosen the military. They were all proudly serving their country as much as I. Now if you know something specifically to prove that is not the case here then by all means spew it forward. If not I am highly offended that you would insult someone serving our country in this way without proof.

Yes indeed. Thank you, and ignore the ignorant ( abrock42 ). He obviously has no clue. My experience in the Air Force taught me one thing at least. There are many in our country that love to criticize and tear it down, but have absolutely no clue what our military's mission really is or the sacrifices so many have made so that they can enjoy that freedom they have.

We had two guys in our basic cycle that were in the Army simply to run for the Army marathon team. They could both run the 2 mile PT test in under 10 minutes. Man they were fast.

That's cool. I played softball with a guy that had an amazing arm. He could throw a softball from deep right field to third base on a line and do it accurately consistently. He was a very average fielder and hitter though.

Thanks for your service by the way.

Like you I am sure it not only was a pleasure but I got much out of it as well. A lot is put in but you get a lot out of it. I would not trade those years for anything.

I'm straight thug life, when I step to the Scrabble board

We just cleaned out a closet last night and kept 2 deluxe scrabble games. I married into a family that loves games and we play a lot of Canasta, Dominoes, Sequence, Skip-bo, Rook, Scrabble, 500, 3 to 13, etc. I used to play Poker quite a bit and I guess this is what I substitute for the Poker now.

Another poster on 247 posted this his opinion on why Magee would be the perfect hire for us:

I know I'm new here but I thought I would chime in since I might have some unique in-site on one of the names mentioned.
If Calvin Magee is the pick, we are setting pretty. As someone who lives in West Virginia and has followed WVU for years, I am telling you all, this is our guy. He knows the Rich Rod offense front to back, which is very familiar to what we ran when Dobbs took over. He is a great recruiter in Florida (USF Grad), helped establish the WVU-Florida talent pipeline that is still strong today.
A little story to wet your appetite. When Rich Rod left for Michigan before the Fiesta Bowl against Oklahoma, Magee stayed behind believing he would be considered for the HC job. What he did in the days leading up to the bowl game, was proved to everyone that he should have been the pick instead of Bill Stewart. He put together and executed an unstoppable WVU offensive attack that shell shocked the heavily favored Sooners. In a game most thought WVU would lose by 4 TD's, WVU won 48-28.
I truly believe that he is the man for the job.

Sounds good to me!

From the realistic hires, he was the one I wanted.. Looks like it is Debord, though.

I've played some mean games of Skip-bo. No prisoners

It is an underrated game. We like Sequence too. A friend's brother made her a sequence board with a deck of playing cards that follows a different pattern then the original board. He did an awesome job on it and it makes that game more fun.

Wow, this place has gone bat-crazy!! There hasn't even been an announcement yet. We have no idea what roles everyone will have if DeBord is hired. Let the hire be made officially, and see what everyone's role will be before freaking out.
