We are the only school that can have Lady Vols. We are the only school that can be the Tennessee Volunteers. We should be concerned with what makes our school different and better than to be concerned with how much money we can make for Nike.
JMO FWIW

That's all well and good but changing the name to where everyone is a Volunteer shouldn't be a point of contention like it is. It is just making us look stupid. Both sides of this are because the more people act like this matters and the more UT acts like it doesn't, the more negative publicity it brings.

I think the point people are trying to get across is that if something is not done to control NIKE we will not be Volunteers in 3 or 4 years. We will be "Tennessee" and we will not have our beloved Orange & White colors, we will have a combination of 6-8 different colors.
Nike doesn't care about us they care only about profit.
I have no problem with Nike making the clothes and uniforms for the athletes but I don't want them changing our brand.

The "Lady Whatevers" probably meant something to every school in the country before they all streamlined to be under one banner. Now, our tradition in women's basketball is better than anyone's but just because we change the name like it should be, with everyone being a Volunteer doesn't mean we have to ignore or forget all of that tradition. I'm not trying to **** on you or anyone or even on the Lady Vols name, I just think the amount of anger is just silly.

I think the anger comes from a contingency of Tennessee that feels that they are being run roughshod over... I went through a leadership course teaching how to see the view of others from position other than mine - we were taught that a blind man at an elephant's trunk touches the trunk and 'Sees' the elephant vastly different than how the blind man at the side of the elephant touching the leg 'sees' the elephant which is different from how the blind man at the rear of the elephant touching the tail 'sees' the elephant. They are all valid - we need to figure out how to bring them all together without losing the validity of any of the views - One Tennessee

I dont think adding some different shades of gray changes our brand. They arent giving us green or blue, they are eliminating black and giving us a gray that's slightly darker then the smokey gray. We are keeping our orange and white. We are already unique in that our orange is a one of a kind color. As long as we keep that and mix it with white (which we are) I dont see any problem with addind another gray (which we already have one). I see the other points better than I see this one. Nike is not butchering our color template.

I feel like I see both sides, this is just the side that I fall on. I understand where the anger and outrage comes from, I really do.

Getting rid of the blue is an improvement...doesn't go with orange.

Really? So you have a guarantee that they won't butcher our colors? The Oregon Ducks are supposed to be green and yellow and I watched them on TV 4 or 5 times this year and I had to search for those colors on their uniforms. they would be buried in a combination of 5 or 6 different colors and the green and yellow would be only a slight resemblance to that. They'll have the orange in the jerseys mixed in with some green, gray, blue and yellow.

Oregon is a different case and you know it, Oldvol. They haven't butchered Alabama or Penn State or a bunch of other schools' colors or uniforms and we signed basically the same level deal. From what I understand, basically we control our look except for the one alternate that all Nike schools wear every year.

Does this Nike quote sound like we are in control?
“Because your brand has an emotional connection with your students, staff and alumni, it is critical to keep the development of the work confidential and on a need-to-know basis.”

We'll be fine... Lotta screaming and hysteria over very little...Haven't seen so much call to action since the end of JFK.
