Well, since everyone is other people...yes, I do care what everyone else thinks. I care about the university and I care about the perception of it. And this whole thing (both sides of it) could be damaging to the reputation of UT.Wow...you really care what everyone else is doing don't you? I think most of us couldn't give a damn what every other school is doing. Screw em..they aint us. You think it's silly..it appears most former Lady Vols dont. I care what they think.
The time to have discouraged the Lady Vols branding would have been before they established it. Now they've invested decades building and shaping it to stand for something. If former players, Pat, Holly and the people who built the brand care, then those should be the opinions that matter most.
It's stupid for UT to attract negative publicity over this. It's setting up to be a lose-lose proposition.

OldVol and others. Correction on Nike phone number
(800) 344-6453
I called the Nike Customer Service number and talked to a gentleman about my concerns with doing away with the Lady Vols nickname. He knew nothing about it. He was aware of who Pat Summit and the Lady Vols were but that's about it. I told him I felt that "Lady Vols" set our teams apart from all the other schools and was our brand. He said he would pass my concerns along to the proper people.
So what you are saying is...you are defined by others perceptions of you..that is a recipe for a unhappy life..Once again, it is not silly if it matters to the women that invested the most. What they think and feel matters to me, not the rest of the country. They should matter to you..I personally wouldn't mind the change, I understand the argument for it, but I will side with the ones who's opinions and feelings matter most. That is something "everyone else" should respect, not deride. If there is something you should worry about tarnishing how UT is percieved, it should be the lousy administration...they suck.
That was a wasted phone call.
I was sure it was a waste of time before I made it but I wanted to see what they said. I think that people that have followed and attended Lady Vols games such as basketball and softball are more connected to the term "Lady Vols" than those that haven't. I know that some football fans care nothing about any women's sports or even men's basketball or baseball. I have no problem with that, everyone has their own likes and dislikes. I've had people rip me because I hate Vandy so much but I have my reasons for that.
Almost all Lady Vol athletes I've heard from want to keep the Lady Vol name. They are important to me.
I am all for one Tennessee.
Never liked the separate athletic department's.
Nike will offer and suggest a lot but the decisions lie within. Do not worry.
Everyone is getting worked up over nothing.
I guess it is good chatter for the off season.
Ok, time for me to get controversial.
If we have to have a distinction for Lady Vols, why don't we just go ahead and have the African American Vols, Caucasian Vols, Hispanic Vols, Asian Vols, and Mediterranean Vols?
I honestly wouldn't be too opposed to them doing the same with Women's BBall. If we are all from the same university, there is no reason we shouldn't all have the same name. Getting rid of the "Lady" part doesn't mean we lose all of our history suddenly.
