Ill more than likely be there if you make your way in.

Im currently not behind the bar. Ive cross trained to my 3rd position in my path to management. Ill be serving tables. Just make sure you find me

Will do. I'll shout at you in here the week before we come down. When does your work shift usually start?

Wife and I came very close to moving to Brandon(?) just outside of TB for her work...had they offered just a little more, we'd probably be close to being neighbors.

I know everyone that lives near a beach says that you'd eventually get tired of it, the sand, and the tourists but...I've said that for over 20 years. I don't think I'll be changing my mind anytime soon.

The two things I love most in the world are the ocean and the mountains. We still go to the beach every chance we get, the difference is we know where to go to avoid the tourists, and because we live within 15 minutes of it, a lot of times we just go down for a sunset stroll, or a couple of hours midday, instead of hauling all the beach gear down for an all day beachathon. I may take it for granted, but I'll never get tired of it..the only place I love more is the Rocky Mountains, but I can't take extended periods of cold weather now that I am old and creaky, so I'll just settle for visting them occasionally. Tampa Bay is the best area in Florida to live imo because there are so many great things to do culturally, yet it doesn't feel like you need a passport like Miami.

Not to get too off topic here, however, I share the thoughts behind your comments. Mountains and beaches. On visits have enjoyed the Rockies, although am more partial to the Sierra Nevada area around Truckee and Tahoe. As I've aged the cold really bothers me even though we live in the east TN mountains where it is more seasonal. We go to the SC low country for the beach and love it, especially in the shoulder seasons when tourism is down some, for the same reason of a couple hours walk on the beach, good weather and lifestyle. Even found a wonderful non-denominational Christian church we attend on Hilton Head. Yet, if we were going to live somewhere in warmer climes full time it would be the Tampa Bay area. You've got it right IMO, UEM. Have a brother-in-law from east TN that lived in that area for 20+ years and he is still mourning his return back here.

I know it's the dead period, but I really have not looked forward to a football season more than the upcoming one in many years. We usually spend a month at the beach in November and will not rent a condo that does not have the SECN on cable and a large HDTV. That's the first question I ask. I think the guys are going to take the big step forward this season that usually occurs in the second year. The roster was too decimated for it to happen last season, even though they improved. Improvement in play calling alone, with Dobbs now the man at QB, is going to help everything as the D will not be on the field as much or for as long. The D is going to be 'offensive'. On the attack and making plays.

You had me at ocean and the Rocky Mountains.

If not for my youngest's heart ailment, I was heading to Southeast Colorado in September for my biannual man trip with the pops, uncles, a few of their friends, and my brother. We drive out with ATV's, UTV's, dirt bikes, etc and ride trails up to the top of the San Juan mountain riding trails.

Good times.

But there's just something about looking out at a big body of water that...well, it's my idea of heaven. Late fall in the Rockies comes close but pretty much anytime at a beach wins out.

I WILL retire to Florida before I'm too old to enjoy it.

Met an older Georgia alum and season ticket holder at the bar in Gatlinburg yesterday that works with UT WR Jaye Rochell's dad (who was a DE at UGA back in the day). Apparently he's 2nd string as of now and has been placed on full scholarship. I'm not sure if this is a full athletic scholarship or if they came up with a way to piece together some academic scholarships but I thought I would pass it along since I hadn't seen that hit the presses yet. TIFWIW since it is second-hand information from a Bulldog but the gentleman was very polite, friendly, and complementary of both the Rochell family and UT. Apparently this guy was a former UGA track athlete who ran with Herschel Walker and he had some really cool stories about practicing down at Stokely and seeing the walls of UT legends.

My idea of heaven..floating in a canoe on Jenny lake, meditating on the power and beauty of Gods creation, as I stare in awestruck wonder at The Grand Teton, Teewinot and Mt. St John in all their snowy glory in late spring..I am really jealous of the San Juan trips, man I bet that is awesome. I love Colorado, when I was a teen we lived in the Texas Panhandle. Dad took us on a couple of road trips from the Sangre de Cristo's in New Mexico up to Rocky Mountain National Park. But I love the Tetons and Yellowstone area more than any place on earth I have been to yet...

Next big trip I will take will definitely be The Sierras..

Speaking of all of the beach/Florida talk, I got orders to Hurlburt Field which is between Destin and Pensacola. Any suggestions about the area?

My man...

I haven't explored a sixteenth of what i would like to see of Colorado, much less the West. I've seen most of the Southwestern portion, Durango, Telluride, Ouray, Ridgeway...I flew into Montrose on a prop plane...smoothest flight I've ever been on...also the smallest airport.

I love the West. Its the only place in the world I felt anywhere near as peaceful as I do at the beach. I've been to Zion National Park, seen the South, East, and North rim of the Grand Canyon, and explored parts of Utah. I haven't made it to Yellowstone but plan on doing a Yellowstone and Jackson Hole trip in the next few years.

...all this talk of mountains and beaches is making me want to take a vacation, like now.

Destin Area:
Dewey Destins for seafood.
McGuire's is a great Irish Pub with a view.
AJ's is decent...better bar than food though.
Lucky Snapper, too.

Yellowstone, Idaho, and Wyoming are all spectacular. I drove across the entire Western part of the U.S. last summer, and that area was the best part of the trip.

I loved Utah--Arches, Bryce Canyon, Zion--but the Tetons and Yellowstone blew me away.

Aj's is better a night.

The Salty Duck is a legit bar.

Fudpuckers has great food.

There is always something to do.

I know "Racetrack Road" in FWB has some housing. So does " Green Acres "

There is some glorified condo's beside Hurlburt too.

Anytime, Best Bet is to look on Craigslist. The county will be Okaloosa.

If you ever have any questions just ask.

I'm starting to miss it down there again. :(
