Hunker down and be safe butchna...
Mother Nature is getting serious
I would say that our 5+ year drought has ended in the last 2 months or less.
Yeah...decided to skip grilling today. :wink2:
They're saying that out reservoirs are "back up" to 75%...75?...where the hell is the rest of this crap going Doc?
I believe you either get none or all out there. It's one inch of rain per year or twenty inches of rain in a week.
There was serious talk of a water pipeline from OK...
That's different tho. For one Texas would've paid (state has Oprah money) and for two Georgia actually tried to claim the river was in Georgia and was always part theirs (presumably we'd lose the land attached to it as well). They brought out an OLD surveyor's map as 'proof'. I don't know if the case is still ongoing but Georgia's governor was seriously suing in court trying to claim part of the river and redraw the Tennessee and Georgia state borders.
Georgia's problem is poor planning with Atlanta's sprawl/rapid growth and Coca-Cola which buys and sells their tapwater as bottled water without the Governor doing a thing about it.
Presumably, Texas' problem is a whole lot of parched land plus the cattle industry which obviously needs water to help supply the nation's beef and I'm sure other Agriculture is playing a role just like Agriculture is having a massive impact right now on California's water supply and part of their problem with their record drought and dry reservoir. These are things I can sympathize with because combined with the drought(s) the industries consuming the water are necessary industries but Georgia allowing coke to simply drain Atlanta's water supply so that they can sell that water as bottled water and then wanting to steal the Tennessee River is just madness.
I may be off a year or two on the date but the case was settled in court about 1814. Georgia decided a few years ago that the court made an incorrect decision. Planners in metro Atlanta thought the city was located across the state line from Chattanooga on the river.
Georgia wants to trade land it claims a right to in East Ridge, St Elmo, Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain...about 66,000 population worth, for a small strip of land in Marion County that would connect them to the Nickajack Dam reservoir. With the plan of pumping a billion gallons a day to Atlanta. Shady stuff
The two things I love most in the world are the ocean and the mountains. We still go to the beach every chance we get, the difference is we know where to go to avoid the tourists, and because we live within 15 minutes of it, a lot of times we just go down for a sunset stroll, or a couple of hours midday, instead of hauling all the beach gear down for an all day beachathon. I may take it for granted, but I'll never get tired of it..the only place I love more is the Rocky Mountains, but I can't take extended periods of cold weather now that I am old and creaky, so I'll just settle for visting them occasionally. Tampa Bay is the best area in Florida to live imo because there are so many great things to do culturally, yet it doesn't feel like you need a passport like Miami.
:hi:
Not to get too off topic here, however, I share the thoughts behind your comments. Mountains and beaches. On visits have enjoyed the Rockies, although am more partial to the Sierra Nevada area around Truckee and Tahoe. As I've aged the cold really bothers me even though we live in the east TN mountains where it is more seasonal. We go to the SC low country for the beach and love it, especially in the shoulder seasons when tourism is down some, for the same reason of a couple hours walk on the beach, good weather and lifestyle. Even found a wonderful non-denominational Christian church we attend on Hilton Head. Yet, if we were going to live somewhere in warmer climes full time it would be the Tampa Bay area. You've got it right IMO, UEM. Have a brother-in-law from east TN that lived in that area for 20+ years and he is still mourning his return back here.
You had me at ocean and the Rocky Mountains.
If not for my youngest's heart ailment, I was heading to Southeast Colorado in September for my biannual man trip with the pops, uncles, a few of their friends, and my brother. We drive out with ATV's, UTV's, dirt bikes, etc and ride trails up to the top of the San Juan mountain riding trails.
Good times.
But there's just something about looking out at a big body of water that...well, it's my idea of heaven. Late fall in the Rockies comes close but pretty much anytime at a beach wins out.
I WILL retire to Florida before I'm too old to enjoy it.
I'm a little late to the party, but I also love beaches and mountains. I figured you all might appreciate a picture of the view I get on my way to work every day (you might wanna open the picture in it's own tab to get the full effect...you can see a pretty big one above the right-most fencepost).
Edit: Because I love the pic so much, here's a link to a higher quality one http://i.imgur.com/il73CNi.jpg
