Are you in the city proper? I'd LOOOOVE to live there but I think it would be cost prohibitive to find a good living space in Charleston. I have a cousin who lives in Summerville which is just a spit away from the city proper and she and her entire family love it there.
Although, I've been to Charleston several times since and had already been there once before when I was even younger, I can still remember a field trip there (I think it might've been a Jr. Beta Club trip but I'm not sure). I was blown away by the old buildings, loved what they'd done with fountains/land that had been reclaimed, cleaned up, and turned into something awesome people could use, and the Spoleto Festival just that happened to be going on, although we hadn't planned for that (turned out to be a real treat to experience some of it). The whole city seemed to be into it so it gave off a very cool vibe to be there at that time.
A lot of other sights stand out too but this would be a loong post.
I fell in love with the city on that trip as it was the first time I was old enough to really appreciate it. Every time I've been there it's been great but that trip was the one and I haven't looked back since.
