They thought we were dead and buried

Then Rocky Top was struck by a lightning bolt named Butch Jones...life has returned to the Volunteers monster

Throughout the South from florida to texas and as far North as missouri, fear is spreading as confused rumors of its alive, its coming flow through college campuses, that by this Fall will turn into a torrential rush of dread that will sweep entire Athletic Departments before it.

SEC, do you feel the ground tremble?
SEC, do you hear the thunder?
SEC, you can run (but not fast enough)
SEC, you can hide (but not well enough)

The Big Orange Monster can smell your fear!
This Fall the Volunteer Monster will feast on your football souls and you will be powerless to stop it.

Some will try to withstand the onslaught, some will wilt before the Orange storm...the results will be the same as victorious Volunteers war dance to Rocky Top throughout the SEC

:)

That's what I call a torrential downpour of Vol Love.
Wonderful job, Doc!

Just googled Mount Pleasant and it looks like it's pretty much the same distance as Summerville and little bit more upscale but at the same time you've got more in town. Love the inlets and such y'all have got. I've got a thing for inlets for some reason -- I love to sit at restaurants that are on them and just stare out at them.

Question since I haven't been out your way in a while: Is there decent parking for those trekking into the city?

Charleston to Summerville is almost 30 miles
Charleston to Mt P is under 10

Also MT P is right on the Intercoastal where Summerville is 30 miles inland.

Those are two big reasons for difference in real estate.

Both have the best two school systems in town.

IF you are are talking about DT there is a lot of street parking but it is difficult to get lucky enough to grab one of those spaces. I just recommend getting in a parking garage and paying a little bit. There are plenty of those all across Downtown.

I love Charleston and used to go there every year in the 90's to run the Cooper River bridge run. My wife and I looked to relocate there in 2002 but there just were not enough tech jobs that paid enough for the cost of housing at the time. Besides Blackbaud and Benefitfocus it was mostly military contract work that required you to already have a security clearance.

Also, if I recall there was a Mayor back then that tried to turn the downtown area into just a tourist destination and didn't really provide much for people who lived there or nearby. I realize that Charleston can and should be touristy, but it seemed to only be for tourists for awhile there. Drove through in 2010 and seems like it might have improved a bit.

Boeing coming here has really opened up the doors for industry.

We are also becoming the "silicon harbor" with People Matter, Sparq, BoomTown, Benefit Focus, Blackbaud and more tech companies coming here.

Industry is really booming, just landed the Volvo plant that will bring 4,000 jobs.

EricVol, myself and another poster live on Johns Island, and the real estate is getting crazy even out here. There is constant development of new neighborhoods/apartments. They really need to do something about the roads in the Charleston area IMO, because more and more people are moving here.

Agreed, which is one reason I like Moutn Pleasant because they've really invested in the infastructure of the town and traffic flows really well now with the 17 expansion and bridges added to replace many traffic lights.

It seems like the James Island, West Ashley and Johns Island side is exploding and they are doing nothing to expand.

If that happens Mt P will continue to surpass all those areas.

Spend quite a bit of time in Mt. Pleasant when visiting. My wife's cousin and family live there, and her uncle is moving off the IOP to there. City is huge. I can't exactly say where they are, but it is a busy two lane road off 17 going N. I have spent most of my time at the shopping center going to the IOP and at the shopping center on Long Point where Dog and Duck is.

We mainly stay close to IOP for dinners as we just had our 3rd child. I have never been to Kiawah, but I told my wife that one day I was saving my money to go play.

Sounds like the may live off 41 which is where I live, it is one of the few roads in Mount Pleasant which hasn't been addressed yet which is luckily coming.

Do they live in Rivertown, Planters Pointe, Park West or Dunes West by chance?

Weird question, but does anyone else follow Stephen White on Twitter? A VFL from Memphis and former DE for Tampa Bay...he writes for SBNation on occasion.

The guy's football analysis is brilliant, but his constant tweeting about liberal & social justice related issues is just so terrible.

Ugh.

Eric would be better for recommendations as he lives there, but I will tell you my thoughts as a frequent visitor. If you are into history or at least interested, I would take a downtown carriage ride tour. I believe they have 3 routes, but I found it to be informative and interesting, and I had been to town several times beforehand. Fort Sumter is not anything really special, but I would consider it a must if you like history. Also, just park and walk down to the battery and Rainbow Row- you can catch lunch around that area. You can also walk around the downtown market area that has a lot of historical significance. Patriot's Point is another area to visit if you are interested in naval history- it has the USS Yorktown, an aircraft carrier and other vessels.

I am not the best to recommend restaurants downtown as we don't do it much with kids. If you want to take a little drive, go to Sullivan's Island at lunch and enjoy a restaurant on their strip. It is a quaint area, and one popular place is Poe's Tavern, known for their hamburgers. Just don't go for dinner or even on the weekend if you can avoid it. It gets crowded.

Finally, if you play golf and can get away, there are very decent courses for great rates. Patriot's Point Golf Course is reasonable with nice views. I played Wild Dunes a long time ago; it is pricey, but their links course has a beautiful finish.

Great post, I'll add some more to this.

Fort Moultrie on Sullivan's Island is really cool and you can incorperate the beach.

The Charleston Aquarium downtown on the water is really cool if you have kids.

I recommend checking out Boone Hall Plantation, it is beautiful and always has something going on it is in Mount Pleasant.

Shem Creek is a neat area with Docks going out to the harbor and lots of bars and restaurants as well.

If you want to take a long drive go see the Angel Oak on Johns Island, oldest living tree in America or something like that....beautiful.

If you are there on a second Sunday of the month they close off King street downtown and all the restaurants and bars set up tables on the streets and the stores have booths and food trucks come out...really awesome.

Every Saturday there is a great market at Marion Square.

Then you have boating, Beach and golf as well.

My favorite course in town is Dunes West but if you want waterfront views and affordabilty I agree with Patriots Pointe.

The new SEC commissioner has said if the satellite football camps are going to become a bigger part of college football then the conference will "unleash the hounds"...

I feel like the SEC is giving everyone else fair warning that if they keep it up then the conference is about to blow the roof of things....kind of like the tough guy (I mean the for real badass) who encourages the drunk idiot at the bar to stop picking a fight with him, but then the drunk idiot goes to far and gets knocked out. That's how I think this will end for the other conferences.

Be fun to see what Butch could do as a "guest" in California and Ohio. :)

I also was a frequent visitor to Japan, mostly Yokosuka and Sasebo. Made the trip and climbed that awesome mountain almost 20 years ago.

They used to give you a walking stick if you actually climbed it, not sure if they still do.

I bought my walking sick at the bottom and had it stamped at each way station along the way. That was in 2000.

It's going to be crazy I think. Before you know it there will be SEC fans in California who are going to watch these camps just to see their favorite team's coaches in person....imagine 10,000 people just to watch a coach and/or some potential player for their school.

It might sound crazy, but never underestimate the lunacy of SEC fans...

SIAP but Zach Stewart is moving into UT today. Apparently his mother passed away this morning. Jack Jones' mother had this to say:
Our hearts are filled with deep grief this morning. Jack's Vol teammate & fellow Tennessean, Zach Stewart's mother, Laura, has passed into Heaven. We had the honor & privilege of getting to become friends with this family over the past two years. Laura & Mary Margaret even became pen pals...mailing each other great books to read. Laura had a contagious positive attitude & the kindest spirit. She was a delight. She was 42 & an elementary school teacher...a new treasure to us & a longtime treasure to her family & the entire Coalfield community. Our hearts ache for David, Zach & Dylan. Zach just graduated & was moving to UT today, to pursue his dreams. This family loves The Vols. May they feel the strong arms of God around them today and always. We love you, Laura-David Stewart Family!!!!! ‪#‎VolFamily‬

Even though this is comparing UF and FSU, its still pretty interesting.

The quarter century of Florida State football since UF won an out-of-state non-conference game - Tomahawk Nation

"That's right. Florida has not played an out-of-conference game outside the state of Florida since 1991 and hasn't won one since 1989.

Let's put that into perspective: the last time the Gators scheduled, and beat, a non-conference opponent outside of Florida, the average price of gas in the US, per Energy.gov, was $0.90 a gallon. The number one song, according to Billboard.com, was Milli Vanilli's "Girl I'm Gonna Miss You." And George Bush was still settling into the White House -- the first George Bush."

"The last OOC game UF won came against a 2-9 Memphis State team (all the way back when it was still called Memphis State, as opposed to Memphis).

The last non-conference regular-season win for the Gators outside the state of Florida against a team that finished with a winning record? Buckle up, because this one took some digging. It occurred against a 5-3-1 North Carolina State team in Raleigh.

In 1947."

What a rough start to college. Hopefully, having the support of a whole team full of new friends will make things easier. Sympathies to Zach and the Stewart family.
