I still think it is worse. Doubt they field a team in 2016

Would you let your kid sign a LOI with UAB? No way if there are other offers. Only if that was the only offer whatsoever. How could you trust the UAB AD to continue the program long enough for your kid to finish? Answer...you cannot!

As long as Paul Bryant, Jr. is on the UA Board of Trustees UAB football will not be safe. He won't stand for UAB's football team to get publicity because he's afraid they'll want to play his Bammer team. Bryant, Jr. was the main person pushing to shut the UAB program down.

I wonder what thier sales pitch is to recruits. What do you say to the parents when sitting in their living room?

Careful what you wish for. He is a known quantity to us, old and tired like me. If they have to search for a new coach, they might find a Butch Jones 2.0 then the East will get even tougher. Hope he stays another 10 years and we beat him 10 more in a row.:)

I'd imagine it'd be a tough act to follow Spurrier at USCe. I mean, he's shown that South Carolina can succeed at a pretty high level (still not the highest, no SEC Championship yet for USC).. but even at their peak, they've played second fiddle in the division to UF, UGA, Mizzou, and now they can't beat the lowly Vols who are obviously going to be here for a while.

The entirety of their football legacy happened under Spurrier. He brought them to 8 of their 20 bowl games, and brought over half of their bowl wins (5 of 8 total). With Dabo just down the road at Clemson, the resurgence of Tennessee and hell, maybe even Kentucky, South Carolina could possibly go right back to the pre-Spurrier squalor at least for the next hire or two.

It's not like Columbia SC is a super nice college town, or that Willie Brice Stadium doesn't look like a dead cockroach.. it's not a premier job except for the fact that it's an SEC job that has had recent success. I don't think it's a job that coaches would flock to.

Cockytalk. They seem pretty convinced that Tennessee will probably win the East this year.

Only USC and UK fans give Tennessee/Jones any respect. Vandy fans still swear up and down that he sucks and is the worst coach in the SEC.

I have snooped tigerboard.com (Mizzu) and UGAs 247. They give us no credit, which I understand but calling Butch a Zook 2.0 is just nonsense.

So what's the deal with Young? Were there worries over grades or something? UT and Ok St. both showed an interest late in the game. 247 has him as a 2* (pretty much unranked/unscouted) though that article refers to him as a 3*.

He's got great size and from his tape he looks like he's a thousand times faster than anyone on the field. The speed may be deceptive depending on the HS competition but his vision and cuts looked great.

Callahan at 247 said grade concerns were the biggest reason for silent recruitment. It wasn't looking good for him to qualify until very late when most were filled up. Competition was another but he felt several schools would have been able to look past that part if grades were in better shape early on.

Now know why Perry and Bruce are starting their time on the hill at slot. Joseph Young is a diamond in the rough IMO. I continue to be amazed at how Butch/staff can find these under the radar guys with so much upside.

To coin an old school phrase, Young runs to daylight. If that is early up the gut, he turns on the jets and goes. If it is later, he goes lateral until he has the angle, makes one quick move and goes. A lot to like with this one. With Kelly coming in, we may have decent depth at the position after all.

Thanks. That was pretty much my suspicion based on the timing and what very much looks to be a guy with huge upside (he doesn't look like your average late pickup/depth-only recruit but rather one that you would recruit outright unless you were worried he wouldn't make it in). The fact that other programs got in late pretty much reflected that as well but I hadn't heard/read anything one way or the other.

Despite monumentally ****ing up my sophomore year of college, after going to a community college for a year, I can proudly say that I have been admitted as a Tennessee Vol.

Words can not describe how shocked, relieved, and just overwhelmingly happy I am that someone that could mess up as bad as I did can turn it around to get accepted into a major 4 year university.

Home games...

Regular days on campus...

Living in Knox full time...

I am extremely excited!
