I don't know what being a parent has got to do with it, but I know if I stole a phone and other stuff and threw rocks at a car, I'd prob get the law called on me. I'd probably get what I deserved too. And I doubt anybody would be laughing.

Does he deserve to be kicked off the team, placing his future livelihood in jeopardy? No. But to think its something that should just be laughed off is pretty ludicrous too.

There's a difference between High Schoolers, College Kids and full grown adults. And a much bigger one than teens, college kids, as well as many adults want to admit because a good 90 percent of the time they're perfectly rational. But it doesn't take long teaching college kids to realize they're still kids (ok maybe not kids but not adults either) and they shouldn't be held to the same standard a full grown adult should.

There's also biological evidence for why. The fact is the brain doesn't become an adult brain until right at 25 (sometimes longer). The reason even the most mature kid or college student can act rational and mature 90 percent of the time yet so incredibly irrational and immature 10 percent of the time is that the brain's executive center which controls decision making and impulse control aren't fully formed.

FWIW, I don't think he should get out of this consequence free. I just don't think it should be a criminal matter. So we probably agree more than we disagree.

Oh and you're right. I should've left the parent part out. My issue is with helicopter parents not parents in general. I'll delete that part.

JJ knew what was required of him to be a football player and QB at UT. That is even less important than the responsibility to himself, his family, and his friends. Fail. He revealed his actual maturity level - HS big fish in a small pond. Now he has to accept the discipline, grow, and restore the trust of everybody. Very disappointing.

Nice! Imagine if all the super star athletes in the NBA and NFL played soccer.... we would own the world.

While true, I don't think the best super stars in those leagues would make the best soccer players. A guy like Steph Curry would have made a sick soccer player though.

It would be nice to have a greater pool of athletes choose soccer as their first sport, as a soccer fan.

The updated report makes it sound like we are just dealing with a girly man that was pushed twice and supposedly feared his life because his neck and back started to hurt. JJ throwing a rock and allegedly taking items is wrong but the assault sounds like pure garbage

I've taught well over a thousand middle and high school aged students myself. I'm also familiar with some of the science behind the development of the human mind. But I didn't need science to teach me that someone can be a teenager until they're twenty five because I lived it first hand. I also know that if my parents, law enforcement, etc had found some of the things I did as a young adult laughable, I'd likely still be engaging in some of that behavior today.

Most of my biggest discipline problems in the classroom are due to kids either not getting their needs met at home to the point they'd be better off raised by wolves or their parents laugh off, or in some cases even defend, absolutely deplorable behavior. The latter parents are most definitely enablers in those situations. Not trying to make too much of a generalization here, but the odds of these kids spending some time in jail as adults is pretty significant.

Again, I don't think he should be kicked off the team. And I think allowing the things you've done when you were young and dumb to affect your livelihood as an adult can be extremely counterproductive. But when phones worth hundreds of dollars are stolen and rocks are thrown at cars, the law most definitely should be involved.

What are we arguing over exactly? I said I don't think he should get off consequence free. And yeah, that includes suspension and IMO paying up *if* true rather than making it a criminal matter. It's making it a criminal issue I have a problem with because that can ruin a kid's life and job prospects permanently.

The parents could have also went to the coaching staff prior to making it a police matter and I highly doubt he'd escape unscathed if an issue like this were reported to CBJ, especially since you can file a delayed police report if no action is taken.

Awesome, that's where we were!

We lived at the French Pool bar. Germaine, Kevin and the other guys there are awesome.

And the all night bakery plus the pizzas at lunch were probably responsible for 3 or 4 extra pounds on me.

We're having a great time down here(celebrating 10 years of marriage). I am a little scared of what the scale will say when we get home. The pure onslaught of calories in/on my body has probably been overwhelming. I have run and hit the gym some to try to limit the damage some. But it is very likely not enough.

Actually we don't drink alcohol (I never have), and I get strange looks/comments when I ask for the virgin drinks. Ha. My wife being pregnant helps the odd stares some, though. But I know the price Sandals charges probably assumes we will drink alcohol like almost everyone else; and I have been trying hard to make up that cost in other foods/ drinks. Ha

It's a great place, drinking or not.

I know they lost money on pizzas on that week I was there. I loved those things.
