As all have said, BMI is garbage. It takes into no account how much of you is muscle vs fat. Elite athletes are often "obese" by that standard.

A very simplified starting point.

1. Estimate body fat %.
2. Calculate how many calories you need to maintain your weight. Many online calculators for this.
3. Using myfitnesspal app, eat around 500 calories less than maintanence daily. Depending on your weight, around 150 to 225 grams of protein is preferable assuming you have no pre-existing kidney problems.
4. Train with weights, at least 3 days per week.
5. Get quality sleep at night.

There are many additional things, and variations, but this is a simple approach that can give you results as you study more.

Fat loss troubleshooter by Leigh Peele or Lean Muscle diet by Alan Aragon are excellent resources

Apparently Pig is having some issues again comparable to the first time he was sent home to "think about things." Not sure if it's as bad as the first time, but word is he is diverting back to some old habits that got the coaches attention the first time. I REALLY hope that he turns it around (again) because we need his consistency on the field, especially with Pearson's situation still being up in the air.

Posted in the FF forum from Orange Hammer.

Hope it's not true.

It will grow.

Shoot... I was thinking how dated the rifleman and old Vols with the star logo looked a while back. I recently visited the Alumni Store and couldn't get my eyes off of them. I would have walked out with more if I had the $$$, but landed a t-shirt with the Vols and star logo. Boss

I would start 2 weeks and 2 weeks, I usually do 3 and 3. Diet is important high protein and good carbs for bulking, protein and fiber cutting with minimal carb intake for however intense your workouts are

Hey, I'm currently trying to cut because I don't dig the dad bod. I'm doing an HST workout with running on the in between days. I'm keeping my calorie intake pretty regulated, protein shake morning and post workout, drinking at least a gallon a day, and am using that GNC vitapak that has the thermogenic and ****.

What else can I do?

Love both those logos. I asked you a question in the lifting thread if you find the time.

Love HST.

I have modified it a bit, but ran the standard version last fall and winter

Question for you guys who have been workout gurus for years:

How do you make peace with being borderline "overweight" based on the BMI scale? Or am I the only OCD-afflicted idiot who this bothers?

I have been a scale-watcher for many years, making sure I stayed in a certain weight range (like I said, OCD). My wife kept hinting or sometimes outright telling me she would like me to gain some weight/muscle. Anyways, I have started working out and gaining some muscle mass. And so of course that means my weight has gone up as well. Which is hard for me to watch with my OCD. But I am trying to deal with it. My wife likes the new look. Ha

But now, based on the BMI formula, my weight puts me right at the 25 limit where one is typically considered "overweight".

Anyways, do you guys just not pay attention to stuff like that? I guess they're kind of just arbitrary numbers, but still....

You've already gotten a bunch of replies, but I'll throw my two coppers on. If you really want to know how well you're doing, go see your doctor for a regular checkup. That's the single best way to determine how things are. Even fit people can have cholesterol, blood sugar, or other issues.

BMI is a tool, and like so many tools people often don't use it correctly. It is meant for the average person. Unfortunately, few of us are really average. As was already said by many, with significant amounts of muscle, it becomes useless. Arnold Schwarzenneger in his prime was terribly obese.

As for what method to use, there are untold numbers of them. Some bulk and cut. Some clean bulk. Some do other things. And that's just the diet side. There are gobs of workouts too. Sometimes you just have to figure out what's best for you. Most of all, get a checkup. If you're really curious, check your body fat percentage.

Man. Going to the gym would do me wonders in the confidence department. I'm so damn tall and lanky
