If JRM builds off what he did last year, I have no doubt he could be 1st Team SEC. Our defense is gonna be something serious next year. Last year, my thoughts on the defense, were to just keep us in the game. We were out matched on the DL. Jordan Williams at 275 lbs playing DT in the SEC. No depth there.

This year is a much different story. We have defensive playmakers all over the field. Just look at what we could possibly field on kickoff coverage.... Medley, McDowell, Gaulden, Evan Berry, Bates, Martin, Foreman, Weatherd, Griffin, Elliot Berry, Sapp, Swafford... Could throw in DK Jr or Gavin Bryant as well. That's an elite unit

This was a point Marcus Spears made earlier when asked why he LOVED (he was emphatic) the Tennessee Defense. He stated with that when you have game changers at every level of the defense good things will happen. His game changers were Maggitt and Barnett on DL, JRM at LB, and Cam in the secondary. More high praise, IMO.

Special teams will be even better this year provided we have a good punter, and we were already top 10 in efficiency in 2014.

We were also one of the least penalized teams in the nation last season. Both of those stats are indicators of great coaching.

This is my exact thought when folks question Butch's ability to coach. I think he's had issues with Jimmy's and Joe's, but not game day preparation or in-game coaching. IMO, of course.

It could be the kool aid but I saw one very confident Butch Jones when talking about this team. He has always been very confident in himself, his staff and his program but this is the first year I hear it coming about his overall team

Absolutely saw the same thing. You could see him having to contain himself.

A couple weeks away from the birth of a son. I will be watching all games from home with silent yelling and namnaste moments except the Florida game as it's local. Have fun guy. I'm jealous.

My new baby boy is due August 1st......if he waits that long.

I like how Coach Jones made not so subtle jabs back at Spurrier in his presser. Also touched on teams overachieving and underachieving. It's safe to say UT overachieved and USC underachieved despite having the same record, which OBC can't seem to look past.

Both Dobbs and his parents have said that he wants to get his degree, so I'll bet he stays for his senior season. Lucky for us!

I really don't think Dobbs has any interest in the NFL. He might entertain the offer if he absolutely blows up as a junior/senior and is a guaranteed high draft pick, but I think his real passion is aviation.

Just don't see him entering the draft as a late-round pick and sitting on the bench for a few years before getting cut and then playing catch-up in his real career.

I agree. He seems very career-minded and always talks about his future in terms of that. I wouldn't be surprised if he was drafted and played a few years for the money... but he's just as likely to stick around for a fifth year as a GA while he gets his MS. I know he was hoping to RS so he could complete the five-year BS/MS program, and I'm sure we'll make that financially feasible if he wants to stay.

The SEC East is wide-open, and it seems like people are shying away from picking Tennessee "because it's Tennessee" and hasn't won anything in a while. The Vols do, however, boast a loaded roster, a very underrated defense led by a deep defensive line, a veteran quarterback in Joshua Dobbs who will benefit from a full offseason as the unquestioned No. 1 and a loaded offense that should benefit from the addition of junior college running back Alvin Kamara.

The offensive line is a bit of a question, but four Vols return off of a line that got better as last year progressed and should benefit from an offseason of developing necessary continuity.

Georgia will be a contender too, and the trip to Rocky Top the week after the Bulldogs play Alabama will likely serve as the de facto SEC East title game. A brand-new defensive line, new offensive coordinator, new quarterback and a wide receiving corps that will absolutely depend on Malcolm Mitchell staying healthy are big questions that will prevent Georgia from getting over the hump and winning the division.

Who will win it all between Alabama and Tennessee in the Georgia Dome?
