Free Jauan Jennings.

Uh... j/k sort of.

Well at least Dobbs is a warrior. Maybe we can go to a two QB set. I don't know. Both Dobbs and Jauan just itching to show out.

Edit: And I'm not talking about a rotation.

Can we start with the guy who was working as an "Olympic sports administrator" last year? Nepotism at its finest.

This team could be something special if Butch gave free reign to a competent OC.

I really think Butch could be a great HC if he brought in a good OC and was more of a hands off manager of the program. Sunday-Friday he's as good as any coach in college football. He just needs a better football mind to run the offense and make his decisions.

It's amazing how we get screwed on both ends of the spectrum.

Fulmer tried to reinvent the wheel by hiring Clawson and it cost him his job.

Jones tried to keep things status quo by hiring DeBord and it may cost him his job as well.

Remember how much a baller he was for Blackman on the basketball court, dunking on everybody?

Why can't we take advantage of that athleticism and let him go for a jump ball every once and a while. Same goes for North and Preston.

The difference between CBJ and Dooley is that Dooley tried to surround himself with good staffers and gave them some autonomy. He made mistakes and some bad hires (Sunseri), but he was open to new things and new people and he was willing to make changes.

CBJ is an autocrat. He hires staffers who are basically subservient yes men and refuses to listen to new ideas or try new things, even when it's clear that his way could use improvement. DeBord is a good example. CBJ could have seized the opportunity to hire a brilliant offensive mind, but instead, he hired his stodgy ex-boss, because he would be a subservient, compliant yes man who wouldn't challenge CBJ's autonomy or try to upgrade his musty old playbook.

Hire the best people you can find and let them do their jobs. Good coaches do this, but Butch never will. He thinks his way is the only way and that nobody can improve his system. We're seeing the results of his closed-minded thinking.

Nailed it. It's a bad sign IMO. If his in game management and offensive philosophy don't change he won't be here much longer.

If we can beat Arkansas and finish 8-4, I'd be happy with just an overhaul of the offensive staff. If we do worse, then I'm thinking bigger changes.

Edit: sadly, I think even 7-5 would mean is keeping our staff mostly in tact and waiting for the end of 2016 to make any meaningful changes.

Agree. Unfortunately, like a few others have stated, we may fall back into another talent void If the wheels fall off the rest of this season and and then again next season and we have to make a coaching change. Butch will have recruited great talent, done nothing with them, then got canned. Recruiting is already slipping this season compared to the previous two years. If this season goes further into the tank, next year's class will suffer as well.

We lost to a mash unit Florida team that not only had key players suspended, had a redshirt freshman QB playing through obvious injuries....had numerous players go down during the game from injury....their best players in Hargreaves was playing hurt..

Their offense is YOUNGER than our own that at times featured 3 freshman offensive lineman and they have a 1st year head coach

I would be mad about losing this game if I weren't so embarrassed

I agree, I think we'll be very lucky to beat Mizzou, Vandy, SC, and KY. Those with a win against NTX puts us at 7-5. A one game improvment over last year with no wins over a significant team.

There's a good shot we'll drop one of those four-- perhaps UK in Lexington on Halloween. We'll be coming off a brutal Arky-UGA-Bama stretch, and UK will be amped. IMO, we could be looking at 6-6-- and there's always a chance Mizzou or SCAR could catch us on a bad night.

I thought we'd go 9-3-- and I still believe that's what our talent should've netted us-- but I think the erosion of confidence and momentum will take a toll. It's going to be awfully tough to snap and clear these kinds of losses, especially as they continue to mount.

I don't blame Clawson for that debacle. It's not his fault the players Fulmer recruited weren't up to snuff. Sal, on the other hand... that was a mistake going into a do-or-die season.

And all of this is happening right before a 2017 class that will be the most talented the state of TN has ever seen. Hopefully we don't miss out on it because of a lame duck coach.

Its ironic that these losses which are excruciatingly close may hurt confidence more than losses where there is clear separation.

There were a few reasons that wasn't nearly all on Clawson.

I agree, that's why I said lucky to win those. I think 6-6 is likely and 5-7 is possible. We lose the next three and the wheels will likely come off.

UT, Auburn, and Arkansas are poised to have disastrous seasons. The UT Arkansas game next week is big in terms of determining which team is going to hit rock bottom again.

Dooley failed in the end delegating too much. Is CBJ at risk for keeping too much authority?

In the end, Dooley ultimately failed because he hired Sunseri. I think he could have floated himself another couple years had he hired someone competent.

Butch on the other hand has a pretty crappy staff that he stands by, has talent coming out of every Orpheus...and still we are in position to win big football games...and we lose them based on poor decision making over and over

It's really pathetic that we didn't even throw the ball at Jalen Tabor's replacement enough to force Gary and Verne to even bring up the suspension during the game. Butch wasn't lying when he said it wouldn't matter!

Yep. Dooley seemed to struggle in recruiting, motivating players, keeping the locker room in check, roster management, etc (though he did have some terrible game-day decisions made as well).

It seems that we've gotten pretty much the opposite in Butch.

That's true. As bad as Dooley was, bringing in a good DC or keeping Wilcox likely would have gotten him 7-8 wins and another season.

The sad thing is that we're not that far off. We should be 4-0, ranked in the top 15, and confidence sky high heading into a home game against a bad Arky team.
