Just got home. I think that game may have finally broken me.
At a certain point the heartbreaking losses become so standard that you learn to expect nothing else. I'm not sure who can right this ship, but it's not Butch Jones.
As I and the rest of the Tennessee fans expressed bewilderment at the decision not to go for 2, I could see the ending coming from miles and miles away. And I think, at last, that ending sapped whatever optimism I had left for the staff or the season.
To hear that Jones credited a "chart" for the decision to kick was only more maddening.
The honeymoon is over, obviously, and Jones and his merry band of yes men have no one to blame for that but themselves. No more gimmicks. No more smoky gray uniforms. No more checker Neyland. No more stupid first down chants.
No more bull. We've been fed enough.
