The sad thing is that we're not that far off. We should be 4-0, ranked in the top 15, and confidence sky high heading into a home game against a bad Arky team.
If we go 5-7, we will have a new head coach by December. Hart's hand will be forced.
Its ironic that these losses which are excruciatingly close may hurt confidence more than losses where there is clear separation.
I'm skeptical that would happen. From what I've heard he gets another year regardless. These are almost always money decisions and unless some major boosters force his hand, which I don't believe will happen, it doesn't make financial sense to do it. His defense will be he's returning his most talented team.

Our AD is far from broke. We've come a long way since Dooley's last season. We're getting like 30-40 million a year from the SEC network alone.
Not sure if we should have any confidence in Hart to get it right if we have to make a change anyway - same guy that brought us Donnie T and Butch...
UT, Auburn, and Arkansas are poised to have disastrous seasons. The UT Arkansas game next week is big in terms of determining which team is going to hit rock bottom again.
And why do we want him to come back and squander it?
I'm picturing the commercial with the grandmothers.
Seriously though, Butch will be back next year regardless of record this season.
Not disagreeing but these decisions are almost always money decisions, never wins and losses. Ticket sales for 2016 season won't be known until late spring early summer. Big time boosters would have to threaten to pull support before it would happen. I don't think that happens. Keep in mind that if we fire Butch is successor will likely be as underwhelming as Butch was.
Yep. Dooley seemed to struggle in recruiting, motivating players, keeping the locker room in check, roster management, etc (though he did have some terrible game-day decisions made as well).
It seems that we've gotten pretty much the opposite in Butch.
That's entirely possible. It won't have anything to do with Cheek though. It's much more about the big money boosters, but with the SEC TV money I'd say Hart has more freedom to make that call on his own than he would have in previous years.
