Nick Saban has never once lowered his expectations to being competitive against a rival. He doesn't celebrate being close. He finds a close loss more frustrating than any other loss, because that means his team let an opportunity get away.
Saban expects to win, he demands it and he's pissed as hell after a loss. He hates to lose. He doesn't excuse it. He doesn't rationalize it. He doesn't think being close is any sort of victory.
And that's exactly why he wins and that's how he has developed a championship program at two schools. I hope to hell our players have that mentality and not the "oh, well, we tried, we'll get 'em next year when we're better" mentality. And I think our players do. I think they're pissed as hell they lost, and I don't think being "close" is any consolation at all. I'm glad they have that fire in their belly... unlike that segment of the fanbase whose fire turned to ashes back in the Dooley Days.
Get this nick Saban bs out of here gahhhhh
