I'll be curious to see if he is reinstated if the charges are dropped. Unfortunately I think we may have entered a period where due process is gone and an accusation equals dismissal.

Reminds me of the Paulk situation. Charges got dropped but we couldn't bring him back because, at the time, the media was looking to put to the sword anybody whose name came up in the same sentence as domestic violence.

Same here IMO. Even if the charges are dropped, I don't think you can keep him because of the current climate around UT. It would be seen as proof positive of this damned lawsuit.

I hate this. All you have to do take away a man's rights is point the finger... That's all the media needs. They don't care about truth; they care about ratings, and the public eats it up.

12 coeds secretly transfer from Florida and start hanging out with the football team, getting involved in relationships, then....

It could happen.

Time to put Picou on the fast-track and have him weighing another 25lbs by August. Also, it will be interesting how Butch handles this situation and all the bad press we have gotten the past couple of weeks with parents of recruits this weekend... this is a big weekend for us and you know mom and dad will want some answers of what we plan to do to get this resolved and under control.

Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away...

It is way past time to offer up Cheek and Hart as sacrifices on the altar of the football gods. Wonderful timing for the plaintiffs to amend their lawsuit as additional proof.

CBJ dismissed Paulk from the team after he punched his GF in the mouth. He wasn't arrested because the girl refused to press charges. Johnson was arrested for felony assault. He's accused of strangling a girl and he wouldn't have been arrested without evidence. So, yes, he can be dismissed from the team, if that is CBJ's policy.

My favorite overreaction of the night was "This is getting out of control. Butch has got to see these character flaws ahead of time."

Honestly I don't see how Butch can't dismiss him at this point we are under the freaking microscope in the national media for this very thing. The press would have a field day if we allowed a player back on the team that was arrested for strangling a girl. I understand Bruins point to the other side but in fairness, Johnson shouldn't have put himself in that situation in the first damn place. And of course we have recruits coming this weekend too.

The choking happened while they were "play fighting".

It happened at my frat house where the chick wanted to rough house and she eventually got put in a headlock, which choked her. He didn't mean to and apologized for it. She never went to police and of course we didn't prevent her from leaving. That seems to be the difference here.

Interesting....still stupid to put a chick in a headlock

We haven't seen him play, and he wasn't going to start.. So I agree with him. Key players to me are guys you can't afford to lose at all... While DT depth isn't great, he wasn't a "key" player IMO

Calling Johnson a key player is more than a stretch. He hasn't even seen a single rep of practice. There are five DTs ahead of him right now. Sure, that could have changed in the spring, but he was number six walking on to campus.

To further the DT discussion, I guess it's cited because it is one of the thinner groups on the team, but the DT situation next year isn't bad at all.

In fact, I'd like to know the last time UT had a DT rotation that was better? They have four very solid players. I'm thinking it's been over ten years.

yep you can't predict these type of issues because most of the time they aren't a trend. It's a one time thing that happens

I see this the same as the Paulk situation and I expect Butch to be consistent in how he handles it.

I agree that calling Johnson a key player is a pretty big stretch. However, he was definitely set to be a cog in the rotation in 2016 and 2017. His loss will probably be felt more in 2017 than 2016. Now we really need Picou to come on unless we slide a DE inside to fill that spot. Also, it makes DT a much more key position to recruit in a 2017 class that, IMO, is much less deep at DT than the previous two years.

I don't think this is as big of a loss as many here are making it out to be at all, but it still hurts. Johnson was insurance in case one Tuttle or Mackenzie go down next year. We don't have too many big bodied DTs.

DT rotation looking great.....yikes.

maybe theres a grad transfer out there somewhere. Got 3 Healthy DTs, 1 coming off injury and one that is undersized. Sweet.

And now we have literally no DTs from the last class.

It's tough to overcome a whole recruiting cycle with no interior Defensive linemen. We saw how tough it was to overcome no OL in the Dooley class.

Fire Hart, hire a qualified female AD. Institute a sexual assault training program. Have women's groups come in once a semester for seminars with student-athletes (mandatory).

Institute a one strike and your out policy for sexual assault cases.

Educate student athletes that they are targets and have to make good decisions.

Not sure what else can be done

No quite as bad, but not great.

I bet we take a JUCO DT and 3 HS DTs next class

So the DT rotation will probably be KMack, Vickers, and O'Brien in 2016. Picou may or may not be ready and Tuttle is likely out for the year with the ankle injury.

But what counts as the strike?

An accusation? A charge? A verdict? Etc...?

But either way, you are right. Make smarter choices. Goodness.
