Alexis was key. Period. We didn't recruit a JuCo tackle to NOT play. He was highly ranked for a reason.

Examples of non-key players from this class in regards to 2016:

Guarantano
Buchanan
Neihaus
Tatum
On and on...

Not as key as Warrior and Kongbo but KEY

Could we see big Charles move back to DT to add some depth?

Mckenzie/Tuttle/O'Brien - Top 3
Vickers/Mixon/Picou - Yikes

Also what are the chances that Butcher(Not much smaller than Picou) could bulk up and move inside since there is talk that Phillips could do the same?

Potentially key. No guareentees. I think he would have been a lot of help personally but in terms of our current team "key" is a current impact starter because we are pretty loaded that key becomes a different definition

I think having Charles make the move is the most logical move. That would give us McKenzie, Tuttle, O'Brien, Vickers, Picou, and Charles as natural DT's. And then you might see Mixon slide in on passing downs. Given that Phillips nearly transferred over playing inside before, I don't think we see much that.

Whatever, I'm glad to hear a 4-star JuCo tackle is disposable. Remember Blair in 2014? Different circumstances but created adversity at OL.

A couple things I'll be curious to see in the coming months-

With 5 total scholarship DT's on the roster now with Johnson likely gone, I wonder if we-

1. Search the market far and wide for a Grad-transfer D-Tackle. Not as frequent as the QB-transfer-frenzy these days, but surely there's an eligible guy from a smaller school that would love the opportunity.
2. Find a kid that didn't commit anywhere on NSD, a la Joe Young last year at RB. Perhaps a guy like Mykelle McDaniel, who we were projecting to play DT down the line.
3. Move a guy from the OL, whether it be Big Charles or Zack Stewart
4. Move a guy from DE, like Dimarya Mixon, Andrew Butcher, or (if he won't freak out) Kyle Phillips

Basic lesson I am trying to teach my 5-year old son on a daily basis.

If you are playing with someone and they are not having fun, you have to stop. If you are playing with someone and you are not having fun, they have to stop.

Tuttle is out for next season? Hadn't heard that.

We're alright at DT this year. I like McKenzie and Tuttle as starters. I like O'Brien and Vickers as backups, and Picou is talented. We can take some pressure off of this group by playing guys like Barnett, Kongbo, Phillips inside for certain situations.

We need to stay reasonably healthy, and we need to recruit our asses off at the position this cycle. But we should be able to absorb this impact.

Fire Hart, hire a qualified female AD. Institute a sexual assault training program. Have women's groups come in once a semester for seminars with student-athletes (mandatory).

Institute a one strike and your out policy for sexual assault cases.

Educate student athletes that they are targets and have to make good decisions.

Not sure what else can be done

WTF? Fire Hart? Seriously? Are you insinuating that Hart is the cause of this? Are you saying that in fact the AD at Tennessee really does promote this kind of behavior with the athletes?

People are so quick to go straight out to left field when they hear bad news. Seriously, if you're going to say something like this, give some kind of proof that Dave Hart told any one of these guys to go out and do these things, because it is ok with him.

If they did it (still alleged at this point i would assume), it's on them.

If the University is in fact sweeping things under the rug, then you have to look at the people involved. To just assume that from the get go is ludicrous though.

Sorry if my opinion offends anyone, but you know, I still try to think.....with my brain, not whatever part of my body causes knee-jerk reactions.

Wow, when was the last time the State of Tennessee had 7 in the top 100 (with 3 in the top 20)?

Get 'em all, and Rodgers as well.

#6 Tee Higgins
#11 Trey Smith
#18 JaCoby Stevens
#42 Ty Chandler
#58 Maleik Gray
#82 Cordarrian Richardson
#90 Amari Rodgers

#153 Rutger Reitmaier

To play the other side of the argument ...

Are these not similar Excuses that we made with the class of no OL? (We are young, we redshirted some guys, so they're basically freshmen anyways, etc).

DL is extremely key to having a good defense. Quality Depth is crucial.

5 OL positions

2 DT positions

Doesn't make it still a bad situation, just not something we can't recover from.

BUT it will take fantastic recruiting the next two classes to not let it hurt us so it could still hurt us for sure.

A post last night said DUI, drug possession, ..., ect

Wasn't confirmed from what I could tell

You can look up the Knox County General Sessions Court docket online.

Might be more than 1 Alexis Johnson in Knoxville but seems like a stretch to think two of them are set in the same division of Knox GS on the same day at the same time.

Edit: there's an ID number. Definitely the same Alexis Johnson.

They will seek to destroy you.. something ain't right with this story.

Interesting to see the same people outraged by the one sided, agenda fuelled reporting on Peyton rushing to justice on Alexis.

It was Valentine's Day. He was with a girl he already had been intimate with. She was 'play fighting' with a 300lb man-boy. What are the chances she panicked when things got rougher than she 'planned' on, got hysterical and tried to leave?

I put the odds at 50-50 she has calmed down, regrets over-reacting and tries to drop the charges. In my position I see this literally every second day.

For those worrying about your wife and daughters, grow up. No matter what happened or did not happen, as long as your wives are not flirt fighting with 300lb 20 year olds, I think they'll be fine.

So...all of this Alexis Johnson news coming out of K-Town.

Is it a problem with UT? Or is UT actually being proactive about by working with the police and suspending players, which leaves a paper trail that reporters can follow?

Aren't you arguing two sides of the same coin? Blair was on the team and was still a non-factor.

There's no guarantee that Williams wouldn't be the same way. Heck, even if he was better (and he likely was), he'd still have to be good enough to crack the already established four-man rotation. No guarantee there at all.

It's a problem for many reasons, but I don't know how anyone calls it a "key" problem. Maybe we just have different definitions of key.

I agree that calling Johnson a key player is a pretty big stretch. However, he was definitely set to be a cog in the rotation in 2016 and 2017. His loss will probably be felt more in 2017 than 2016. Now we really need Picou to come on unless we slide a DE inside to fill that spot. Also, it makes DT a much more key position to recruit in a 2017 class that, IMO, is much less deep at DT than the previous two years.

I don't think this is as big of a loss as many here are making it out to be at all, but it still hurts. Johnson was insurance in case one Tuttle or Mackenzie go down next year. We don't have too many big bodied DTs.

It does hurt, but I'm still trying to figure out when the last time we had a better four-man rotation at DT was. I really think it's been a long time.

Losing Johnson hurts a little in the short-term and a little more in the long-term. It certainly puts more pressure on the 2017 class. There's no doubt.
