Atlanta has grown by about 4 million people since I was born, mainly from Northern migration, and hockey still didn't stick here. The kids of all those people that move down here end up as college football fans like the kids whose families have been in the South for hundreds of years.
That was mostly because the Thrashers were horrendous.

Saw where Brad Shepard on Bleacher Report predicted an 11-3 season for the Vols.

How would y'all feel about this season:

App State: W
VT: W
Ohio: W
UF: W
UGA: L
A&M: W
Bama: L
USC: W
TTU: W
UK: W
Mizzou: W
Vandy: W

SECCG vs LSU: L
Sugar Bowl vs Baylor: W

Regular season final ranking: #6

I would probably be a little disappointed, because we would likely take a step back in 2017 unless we have a QB ready to step up immediately and it might be a minute until we're capable of winning the SEC/making the playoffs again. But it's hard to find fault in an 11 win season, seeing as how we haven't won more than 10 games in 15 years.

We are better at every position than UGa. That game isn't even going to be close.

I would take that right now.

Well first off, if we lost to both Georgia and Bama, there's almost no way we make it to Atlanta for the SECC. Georgia would have to lose 3 games in the SEC, and I don't see that if they have the ability to beat us.

That being said, this is just a hypothetical, so it would mean we got the Gator off our backs, and we'd win a New Years Six Bowl. We'd be SEC East champs, we'd probably finish the season in the top 10, so it's better. Certainly hoping for better, though!

This is disappointing. Life gives you many hard knocks and one of the worst is losing a parent at a young age.

Having said that he needs to get on with his life. He may have such a fragile psyche that it's impossible for him to deal with this for many years. If so then I doubt he would have ever made it at UT playing football. Some people aren't made that way. I lost my mother at age 5, with 7 other siblings age 4 to 18. We struggled but life is always a struggle. And no, I am not saying "if I can do it everyone can do it, so get on with it". I am saying the opposite, some people cannot do it.

But if he can do it he should. He has already spent more than a year grieving. Life goes on whether you do or not. I hope he has the right kind of family support. He will never in his life be 18 or 19 years old with this opportunity. And right now, in his state of mind, he needs a whole new challenge and environment.

To anyone who thinks I am trying to be crass, indifferent or cruel, nothing could be further from the truth. Sometimes you get so close and caught up in something that the only thing that helps you is being pulled up out of it by someone and sent to do something else important. May he find peace and purpose in his life.

He seems to be enthusiastic about finishing at his community college and then getting a teaching degree and coaching. I found that encouraging. Hopefully he can stay on that path.

Except if these Vols beat the gators, no way do they drop one to uga...
11-1

Of course if Tennessee is undefeated when bama comes to Neyland, the proverbial tide will turn and bama will go home losers...
12-0

When you consider that they beat bama convincingly, and lane kiffin wasn't allowed to board the plane with the team, SECCG against LSU is phenomenal win or lose.

But I have to think that the Vols beat bama, then they would decimate the bayou bengals...
13-0

Playoffs here we come...Clemson reels from the whooping put on them in the first game. Take charge of those recruit battles.
14-0

NC game rolls around and urbie gets the call.
buckeyes throw everything they have at Tennessee but to no avail. First shutout in a championship game.
15-0

So our scenario is basically the same except momentum is underutilized in your version :)

I find it refreshing that a kid that could be high level isn't looking to make it big but wants to lead a simple life and teach kids to play the game. The impact he can make on them one on one in a personal nature is so much more than he can by them seeing him play for UT. Too many young people get so wrapped up in sports they can't handle it when it's taken away from them. He seems to have a great head on his shoulders. Congratulations Zach.

IMO, Brad's scenario is unlikely. Odds are, a L to UGA would have UT tied with UGA for the SECE, which would keep UT out of the SECCG. Two SEC losses-- to UGA and Bama-- would mean we wouldn't control our destiny, and we would probably be out of the playoff picture halfway through the season. And we would lose to 2 of our 3 top rivals, perpetuating their decade of dominance over us.

So while it looks good in theory, it would fall short of the team's top goals: to win championships, beat our rivals and sweep the SECE.

Wow. Seems like there 2-3 wrecks per month in Nashville alone where some drunk idiot gets on the interstate or highway going in the wrong direction and hits someone head-on.

Clemson opens as a 9.5 point favorite over Auburn.

LSU over Wisconsin (+8.5)
Alabama over USC (+13)
Georgia over North Carolina (+4.5)
Oklahoma over Houston (+7.5)
West Virginia over Missouri (+7)
Texas A&M over UCLA (+3)
Notre Dame over Texas (+6)

Man, that UCLA line is juicy. UCLA still has a ton of talent and TAMU is kinda a mess.

Going to be a great opening weekend of football.

Is it weird that I'm probably more interested to watch USC vs Vandy than any other game during that slate?

FAILURE.

Anything short of a national title is unacceptable.

That's the standard this program should be held to. I hate this happiness with being okay.
