What in the world has happened to the RF??? Is everyone suffering from altitude sickness??? Now all our recent recruiting classes are nothing??? Summer workouts and preseason camp can't get here fast enough!!! Everyone just needs to take a deep breath. The 2017 class will be just fine, just like the 2014, 2015, and 2017 one's were.

The 2015 class is in line with what the heavyweights of the SEC pull in on a yearly basis. We need to maintain that level of recruiting to stay competitive year in and year out.

Wow. The idiots have been running wild in here the last couple of days.

Let me see if I have this right.

Last years Top 15 class was shi**y. Is that correct?

Program to be shut down due to lack of talent. Sorry I had to be the one to impart such news.

Yeah, it's top heavy at this point which is fine when you can follow it up with a class like 2015 which is loaded top to bottom.

2016 class looks to be similarly top heavy. The question marks for me are guys like Tatum, Pope, Niehaus, Blakely, etc. Need at least 2-3 of the guys on the lower end of the rankings to be Ethan Wolf/Jashon Robertson/Chance Hall type players who outperform their ratings.

Those guys had to actually wait until they got on the field, before they could perform, period. And that was coming into a talent vacuum. These guys will most likely redshirt and become models of how that benefits us.

Shell season hasn't even started. I'm willing to bet that most of these 3* kids haven't had their Jr film evaluated or camped in major setting. People freaking about rankings and takes in May. Lulz

The biggest problem (I think) is our in state recruiting. Most of the highest rated guys seem very interested in leaving the state.

It's crazy that the gator makes more sense than the Vol fans on a Vol board. Even if he is a closet Vol fan.

I'm not looking to argue about the legal aspects of wether or not UT could have settled last fall. I lack the knowledge and don't plan on putting in the time to acquire it just for the sake of argument. I brought that up based solely on what LWS said, and anyone that's ever paid attention to any Vol-related website forum knows that dude is usually money.

And yes, I guarantee all those issues are being used to recruit against us right now. I think some of those criticisms such as in-game decisions last year are fair while others, specifically the part about putting guys in the NFL recently, are not. And you are absolutely correct about recruits not being concerned with UT's administrative processes or Title IX compliance. However, you also seem like a competent enough guy to realize that's not the issue. It's the collateral stuff like the Bowles saga that opens the door for opposing coaches to raise all sorts of doubts (much of it unsubstantial) in the minds of parents and prospects. My point is this: Folks can be in denial all they want and it may not be the primary focus of any negative recruiting, but make no mistake, the stink around the lawsuit provides ammunition for opposing coaches. Saban, Dabo, and Kirby don't need any more ammunition.

Everything is ammunition for negative recruiting. The lawsuit, however meritless, has no impact on the football program, the team, current players or the coaches. It has no criminal implications and it doesn't come under NCAA sanction authority. UT coaches can, and I'm sure do, present facts as a quick rebuttal.

So it really comes down to whether or not recruits and their families believe and trust Butch and whether recruits want to play for him. If they don't, they should look elsewhere, IMO, because they won't be a good fit here. We can just agree to disagree. :hi:

I'd be interested to know how most recruits view the Bowles thing, or if they even care.

Sure, Coach X could bring it up, but I'd be willing to bet as many or more of them know the story as it comes from the players and those in the program rather than the narrative given in the lawsuit and it's mouthpiece- The Tennessean.

SEC/D1 prospects and players aren't a huge community. I imagine more of them have heard about it through the grapevine from friends/ former teammates rather than the paper.

If they have knowledge of the players accounts, given the culture of most locker rooms, I'd assume most would side with Jones and Maggit.

This is true, most will admit, but with instate talent committing elsewhere or decommitting, the same freak out or question marks would happen at any high profile program like this one...

We are set up to play actual real high quality football this upcoming football season. The constant recruiting nervousness is ridiculous.

Can we have one awesome season before everybody complains about not having consistent awesome seasons forever?

We are LOADED. It's time to kick butt. Let's enjoy this team while we've got it.

Once the butts are kicked, we'll reel in more studs.

If we know anything for sure, it's that Butch will fight like hell to the last second in recruiting. We'll probably have plenty to be excited about it when it's all said and done.

I hear everybody's concerns. You can say them a million times a million different ways. But it just doesn't matter. We have 9 more months to recruit. 9!! And a whole season to play. Lol.

If anything, I'm fretting about how we're ever going to finish off Florida. But recruiting is gonna take care of itself, as it always does under Butch Jones.

Somebody sporting the Power T hat at the Byron Nelson Classic in Texas. We are everywhere. And yes, it Tennessee orange not Tejas orange.

Last years class was terrible. That's empirical fact. Top 5 classes compete for national titles. Not top 15.

The only saving grace to the poor recruiting is that 2016 was a year largely devoid of elite talent. As long as we can land top 5 classes in 2017 and 2018, we should be fine.

However, we can't have a repeat of 2016. If we do, we're going backwards.

2014 is a great class. By my count we've landed as much as 9 starters from that class. Even with all that attrition and misses, remember it was a 30 man class. We made out great.

However, it only looks weak when compared to 2015 (which has the potential to be one of the best classes ever for any school). By my count we've landed as many as 20 potential starters from the 2015 class. That's ridiculous beyond belief.

The greatness of 2015 is why we could afford to slip up in 2016 without suffering much harm for the 2017 and 2018 season. However, we need to get back to elite classes in 2017 and 2018 if we want to be a perennial national title contender.

That's not true at all. Maybe from a rankings perspective but not in terms of actual production or impact.

I've looked back at many of Alabama's top ranked classes from 2010-2013 and they never had a class with nearly 20 impact players. Or even 10.

Beyond the rankings, it would be hard to find classes as good as the ones we landed in 2014 and 2015.

Congratulate Bob Welton and the guys doing the evals cause they hit it out of the park in 2015.

Isn't that true of every high ranked kid in EVERY state?

You guys are hilarious. This is what happens when you are recruiting against the big boys and you have elite instate talent.

Aren't we getting interest from the highest ranked kids in Virginia? Same with Georgia? Isn't Cam Akers, our #1 RB target, the top kid in the state of Mississippi?

This is what happens when you are recruiting elite prospects.

Do you think the top kids around the country are going to shut things downs after getting an offer from their instate school? Or are they going to evaluate all their options?

I'll worry about the instate recruitment in February. If we don't have Tee Higgins and Trey Smith by then I'll be concerned. Till then, welcome to college football. This is what happens everywhere else.

I actually like the way recruiting is going this year.

We're not loading up on low rated prospects early. I like the fact we're among the favorites to land 5 five stars and 10 guys in the top 100 nationally.

Our 2017 could set up like Texas class in 2016.

I remember everyone was making fun of them for having a class ranked in the 30s and only having 10 guys committed the week before NSD. Then they have an epic close on about 10 elite prospects and jump into the top 10 nationally.

I think that's how 2017 goes for us. Most of our targets are waiting until December or NSD to announce. As long as we have the season we expect, we'll land most of those guys.

You're kidding right? This has to be a joke.

How do you know if 20 players will be impact guys?
