Defensively, I will say this: Pursuit is at a level I've not seen under this staff at any point in time. It's an obvious emphasis, even in individuals, and this group is buying in. Cool to see Bob Shoop work so much with his safeties and be so hands-on, especially already as they're reading tight ends, running backs etc.

I keep seeing the media guys say that "X position unit/team attribute is the best yet under this staff."

Is that kind of a given at this point?

I...I can't. I can't be optimistic. I've had my hopes up before only to see them dashed. But we're just so GOOD talent-wise...but we were good talent-wise in 2005, too.

The trials of battered Vol syndrome.

One attempted pass over 10 yards...intercepted. That is literally the only thing I am worried about with this team.

Good to see that Kyle Phillips is working with the twos.

Niehaus over K-Mack in the COL. Repeat. Niehaus over K-Mack.

Pope returned the favor against Bituli.

Things are looking up on the O-line.

Bold prediction: Vols will have the top-rated pass defense in the nation this year.

Mediocre slate of opposing QBs + elite pass rush + elite secondary depth = fewer than 160 yards passing allowed per game.

Combine that with a stout run defense and we'll easily place in the top 10 for total defense.

Obviously. What does that have to do with storming the field? We would be beating a solid Florida team, not winning the SEC. You can celebrate without storming the field. That would be embarrassing. It would still give them the mental mindset that they're supposed to beat us. They're not.

Bingo

Phil Steele projects us to have the 7th best tot defense and 2nd best scoring defense.

Yes, we are really talented! I pretty sure I remember someone back in 05 that the OL was overweight some and that team bought into the hype and didn't have the work ethic needed!

One thing we can say about this team is they work and have their heads on straight. Florida goes down this year!!

I agree with the overall defensive strength, but big leads by the Vols force teams to go very pass heavy and they build yardage stats but fall short of the end zone. I say we lead the nation in rush defense and give some garbage pass yardage.

True. I guess you could say we will have the top-rated pass defense when it matters.

One of the reports I read said Jack Jones was working with the 1st team at RG. Wiesman at Center.

Richmond - Jashon - Weisman - Jones - Hall

I don't hate it.

Our depth is exciting.

We've got Jones, Boulware, Sanders, and Kendrick/Richmond as quality depth on the OL this season.

Mosley still isn't there yet but could play in a pinch. Plus I bet at least one of the freshmen will be game-ready by halfway through the season.

One thing I like about this team is that while others do the talking, you hear nothing out of them: it's business to them IMO.

I think Hurd leads that mentality too, let the work on the field do the talking.
