On a more positive note, do any of you folks have any idea about the best place to find the 2014 and 2015 games online?

Different cats on YouTube have a lot of them. I can't remember any offhand. Freak has the offensive and defensive snaps separated, but the full games are around as well.

Here's a good one :)

I thought there was a "Don't quote D4H" rule in place for this thread?

Anyways, I'm excited for this season. I wish I could go to a game this year.

Dang, with all this continued hype and high rankings, you'd think we could just skip the season and go straight to the playoff.. all this hype is making me uncomfortable that we set ourselves up... WE aren't fueling the hype, the media is, but they will be the first to pounce if we come up short... we haven't done anything yet and we are already a 10 depending on what poll... would be more comfortable with a 12-14 and climb with our work on the field....

Nope, I want to be ranked as high as possible in the pre-season. If a #1 team loses to a top-25 team, they would fall to 7th or 8th. If a 14th ranked team loses in the same scenario, they drop to 18th or so. If it happens early in the season (see OSU, Stanford, etc.), the top team can recover and get back to the top 4 or 5. Unless everybody falls on their face during the season, the 18th ranked team will be lucky to see the top 10 again.

What number was Joey Bosa taken at again? He a real explosive athlete? Bosa ran a 4.86 40 and only benched 24 reps of 225. Randolph says "that's nothing!" Bosa was taken because of his motor. He gets after the QB. That's exactly what Barnett does but Barnett is a better athlete than Bosa

Bosa is 6'5" with long arms.

Barnett is 6'3" and has not so long arms.

Physically the two don't compare.

Barnett is a 6'3", 270 lbs defensive end who will likely run a 4.7 or so. He bends well enough that he consistently gets his pad level lower than anyone else in football when edge rushing. I can't count the number of ball carriers Barnett has tackled from behind by being so quick in pursuit on the backside of the play. He has power moves, violent hands, and plenty of athleticism. The folks who grade college football love him. The guys who write and publish mock drafts love him. The guys who give college football players awards love him.

He is neither "undersized" nor "not an explosive athlete." He isn't on the field whipping tail on blood, guts, and desire alone. He is an elite athlete at his position and he will compare favorably to anyone not named Kongbo or Garrett when it comes to his measurables at the combine. I will say this again in plain English so you can understand. Guys as big as Barnett is are not as fast as he is unless they are complete freak athletes. There are about 5-6 freak athletes per NFL draft class.

There are several things I dislike about you as a poster. Being a fair weather fan is the big one. But number two on the list is the narcissistic personality disorder.

Go listen to Bob Shoop's press conference from yesterday.

He said that NFL scouts who came to practice were saying Barnett (and Vereen) were undersized. Now he obviously disagreed but he did let it slip that the NFL scouts were not as enamored with Barnett as the mock drafts imply.

6'3 and 270 is undersized?

6'3 and 270 is undersized?

The 6'3" is more of a problem than the 265 lbs.

Height usually coincides with arm length and NFL teams want defensive ends with long arms so they can get better leverage on offensive tackles. If you're undersized, odds are you also have below average arm length which in turn makes it easier for NFL offensive tackles that are typically 6'6" with extremely long arms to block you.

Most of the elite defensive ends in the NFL are 6'5" or 6'6". 6'4" is kind of the low point cutoff.

6'3" is undersized and I'm guessing Barnett might really be closer to 6'2" if the scouts are this concerned.

It's true, there are many things you could choose, as to why we lost certain games. Each game had at least 5 "If this one thing..." that would have been a victory. Missed kicks, 4th and forever, fumbles, missed tackles and offensive coordinating all come into the picture.

Nothing infuriated me about those games more than: run middle, run middle, long incomplete pass, punt.

I'm with you Nick on DeBord. I'm just not a fan. I mentioned it before and got took behind the woodshed. I think he's definitely had an impact on the offensive line but as the offensive coordinator I've not been impressed.

So here's one mock draft. Y'all were completely right.

JRM listed at 18th overall going to Baltimore. No other Vols selected in first 2 rounds.

D4H does make some decent points about Barnett. He's not long, tall, overly athletic etc. But the thing about DB is that he's not your typical guy. It's kind of like Freeney. He's super undersized but he is super quick. Well DB is good at everything except the physical gifts. I think where he makes up for his lack of quickness is that he's good at jumping the snap. He's probably the best bender out of any DE I've seen. And he's strong as hell.

I'm not saying DB will be a hall of famer but with his mindset I'm not going to put it past him. He'll be a first round pick next year. Hope he breaks the sack record this year.

You need to post at least once a day you have me on ignore. Toss in an insult directed at me a few times a week and your likes will soar. You're welcome.

LOL

I can relate. In the RW if I'm not screwing with someone it means I don't like them. My friends tend to have asbestos for lining.

6'3 and 270 is undersized?

No, it's not.
Took about 10 seconds to Google defensive ends. Randomly selected 5, and three of the five are 6'3 or shorter. Including 1 from the Patriots.
So either sampling is extremely inaccurate or his stats on them were completely pulled out of his butt.
You can choose.

2016- VT*
2017- GT*
2018- WVU*
2019- ?
2020- ?
2021- Pitt
2022- @Pitt

These are our Power 5 opponents the next 5 or so years. What do you guys think we will do in 2019 and 2020? Will we do a home and home to fill both years? Will it be a big time team or middle of the pack team like we currently have scheduled? Or will we do two more neutral games? If neutral we try to have a marquee game or more in line with VT, WVU,ect?

What would you choose if you had your choice?

I'd love to do a home and home with any of these teams.

FSU (boise St our open years)
Clemson (ND and A&M our open years)
VT (ND and Mich our open years)
WVU (Missouri, NC St and Maryland our open years)
ND (has opening in 2020)
Mich (ND, VT and @Wash our open years)
OSU (TCU and Oregon our open years)
Penn St (open in 2019)
Miami (UF and Michigan St our open years)
Texas (LSU our open years)
UCLA (Open in 2020)
USC (Open in 2020 and has BYU/ND in 2019)
UNC (open in 2020)

unfortunately I think we will likely do something more middle of the road because as you can see most of these teams are already filled up.

When do you all think this gets announced? Usually these are set 3-5 years in future so it is getting close? We are missing the window for any good matchups.

This stuff about Barnett is hilarious. Even an idiot would understand that a 270 lbs. person that runs 4.7ish 40's as strong as Derek is a freak at his position. He's built as a combo and performs as both speed and strength. If O-linemen do not grab and hold him by the neck they cannot contain him. Even double teams do not work without holding. He picks the weakest or slowest guy depending on gap assignment, works against them with leverage, and either bulls, spins, or swims out of the block. He is an incredible athlete. I know I am orange to the core, but if I need a D-end in the next draft I am drafting this guy #1. Plays through injuries, comes to work every day, practices how he plays games, etc.

Unfortunately we will probably fill it with neutral site games. The money is just too big of an incentive. But I'd like a home and home with any of the team's you listed, and would probably add a couple PAC 12 teams to the list.

Weren't we supposed to play UCONN at some point?

NM: found it. Suspended so we could play Battle of Bristol and game in Nashville last year
