Recruiting Forum Football Talk XXVII

Well I guess we will see how it will play out at MLB. I mean what else can we do? All the speculation is corrosive. Though I know the coaching staff takes the suggestions of some on here more seriously than others when they drop into the VN recruiting forum for pointers.

Some of us pay more than others.

Well LWS just shut down this conspiracy in the FF. Basically said the coaches would rather have the defense lined up correctly and have one guy miss his assignments than all 11 be lined up incorrectly on the play. Either coaches dropped the ball in player development this past year or players didn't work hard enough to learn the defense.

Better to have both LB positions weaken or just the MLB? Weighing whether JRM and CJ (with correct defense and play call) is better than CM and JRM with possible incorrect play call. Difficult call to make and guess that is why they are paid the big bucks.

Coaches will find an answer. People are freaking out over this depth chart. All they did was scratch DK amd leave MLB position as is.

I have seen Butch play kids who weren't the best but I think he has learned from that. We've got til 9/24 to find the best solution.

2-0

The intelligence of this board has gone down greatly. The depth chart is the dumbest thing a fan can look at much less a reporter like Vq to discuss. Hell maggit was listed in the 2deep the entire year he redshirted. The coaches many times have said they don't even know what that SIDs are putting out regarding the depth chart.

JRM NEEDS to be at will because he has freedom to play the whole field, because of his speed, but at Mike he won't have that freedom. His first priority will be the middle and won't be able to react fast enough if the rb bounces the run to the outside. I'm with the coaches on the defense being in position because more plays are made from the defense being out of position. It doesn't matter how athletic our defense is if they aren't in position to make a play then they will get shredded.

That's why we have other fast guys like CM and QS at Will to make plays.

That is a tough call. Butch harped on many occasions already this year about all 11 guys having to do their job for a play to be successful. It seems odd that he'd knowingly put a lineup on the field in which one of the players has put their identity on video, and that identity is one of getting beat a LOT.

On the other hand, is that a safer bet than putting a player out there that doesn't call the right defense/alignment, resulting in most of the 11 being out of position?

I sure as hell don't know the answer to it!

I am not sure that QS has enough experience yet to make all of the plays. JRM has made huge plays at the Will the last two years.

I get the feeling that RishVol knows what he is talking about.

"Tennessee WR Josh Smith was seen on crutches with an apparent ankle injury, per @JimmyHyams. He'll likely be out vs. Ohio."

"Smith's injury will likely mean more playing time for freshman WR Tyler Byrd, who's been impressive since arriving on campus."

BTW, did anyone notice CFA in the Bristol game? I think he averaged about 5 yards per carry. Looked good on very limited snaps.
