We threw for 90 yards against VT. A team with nothing to lose could very well stack the box all game (like 49ers did to Rams) and go 1:1 and force Dobbs to win with his arm. I don't think it's unreasonable to say Ohio might try that and just load up the box.
His reasoning is asinine (we ran all over both teams), but I can see teams starting to force Dobbs to win with his arm (or in the case of 2nd half OU/UF/ARKY last year, let debord keep calling run/screen plays with 10 men on the LOS)
We threw for 90 yards cause we recovered 5 fumbles and regularly started in the other teams side of the field.
Lots of passing yards don't typically correlate to winning. They correlate to being behind.
Dobbs threw for 3 passing TDs. I don't know how you could have a problem with his passing?
The biggest concern to the passing game right now is the o-line. Not our QB.

We threw to Malone for a 30+ yard score when VTech stacked the box. Sure, we seem to want to keep running until we absolutely can't, but we can and will throw it when they stack the box. But I don't expect any more resistance from Ohio than we had from VTech. They had several good defensive players.
Chuck Oliver on ATL Radio 680 The Fan and he is currently saying the Vols will not move the ball an inch on the ground against Ohio. Says Dobbs will have to do something he's never done an bomb away for us to win. Honestly, what the hell is he talking about haha. He says it's sad but they will need a unique scenario to win. He said this literally verbatim. He said Bc they didn't move the ball on the ground against app state or VT. But in reality we actually rebounded and rushed for 250yards on Bud Fosters group. What's wrong with these people?
Lol.. won't run it against Ohio?Chuck Oliver on ATL Radio 680 The Fan and he is currently saying the Vols will not move the ball an inch on the ground against Ohio. Most D Coordinators will try and make you one dimensional. They try and take your strength away. In our case they will try and take our running game away. I was at the game Saturday. What I saw was continued pounding against a 8 and 9 man front. Obvious on on one's on the outside receivers and we still tried to run it. Wonder why Hurd has yet to really break a long run? It's because they're stacking the box. The good thing about that is when you can break a tackle there is little help behind the 2nd level and you can break some long ones. This is why Dobbs got some long ones.
This stratergy (George Bush rference) will work against lesser teams (although it about bit us in the first game) I don't think it will hold up against stiff SEC competition. They will force us to throw the ball. Questions are: can the O-Line hold up? Can the WR beat coverage? Can Dobbs get the ball to them? Can Dobbs know where to go with the ball?
Truth is no one knows. We've seen very little down field passing to help answer those questions.

I don't buy it either. I for the life me don't understand putting someone on the field that you can pretty much count on that the O-Coordinator is gonna pick on and and probably beat better than 50% of the time. Only thing I can figure is he's got some naked pictures of Butch or something.
