Going to be brutal if we miss out on Smith...sheesh. That wall Butch supposedly put around the state in 2014 has come crumbling down.
True or not if I was Butch Jones Vq would never get any access to my program again. Them reporting he was looking around, even though they said his agent does that every year, has caused much damage. If I was him they are cut off.
The '17 class was supposed to be a can't miss. Maybe no. 1 class with Tee and Hunter, along with other in-states.
This '16 season was supposed to be our return to relevance. SEC East, possible SECC and/ or Playoffs.
After all that talk about embracing expectations we are expected to be satisfied with being life champions. More like embrace for expectations. Ironic that Nike had that Game of Jones ad. Crowned a little prematurely.
Call me an optimist, but I'll hold my opinions til February. Recruiting goes like this every year, and one thing CBJ and his staff has proven, is they can recruit well and evaluate well!!
Now coaching up after they get here, that's another story! Lol
Fun Twitter question: who would win, Saban coached 2016 Vols team (no injuries) or a Butch coached 2016 Bama team? Also, Saban and his staff vs Butch and his staff... who you got?
SIAP
I've held off on pointing this out, so indulge me now. Others help keep me honest if it is totally off base.
Isn't a part of evaluation at the college level looking at an athlete's long term physical viability and the ability to stay healthy? Pretty sure it is in the NFL, and that's where college learned the eval process. So couldn't it be argued that Butch & co. aren't good recruiters? Sure, they get speed and find individuals early. They supposedly have a player character profile they follow and have lofty intelligence expectations. But, based on two consecutive years of injuries, first in pre-season and then during regular season, there might be an argument that they aren't recruiting well. They aren't recruiting young men who can withstand the wear and tear of the competition in the SEC. That would appear to me, an admitted novice, to be the most important determinant of good and adequate recruiting.
