Funny how CrunchyLeb and Bruin become very vocal during our down times. They embrace depression and defeat. They definitely fuel the rage around here.

Or maybe it's not funny at all.

I think it's unfair to Bruin. He is always the opposite of the tone or agenda of the masses.

Without people like bruin and Cat bone here too get people fired up and disagree and speak their strong opinions message boards wouldn't be any fun

Fun Twitter question: who would win, Saban coached 2016 Vols team (no injuries) or a Butch coached 2016 Bama team? Also, Saban and his staff vs Butch and his staff... who you got?

SIAP

Going to be brutal if we miss out on Smith...sheesh. That wall Butch supposedly put around the state in 2014 has come crumbling down.

The '17 class was supposed to be a can't miss. Maybe no. 1 class with Tee and Hunter, along with other in-states.

This '16 season was supposed to be our return to relevance. SEC East, possible SECC and/ or Playoffs.

After all that talk about embracing expectations we are expected to be satisfied with being life champions. More like embrace for expectations. Ironic that Nike had that Game of Jones ad. Crowned a little prematurely.

True or not if I was Butch Jones Vq would never get any access to my program again. Them reporting he was looking around, even though they said his agent does that every year, has caused much damage. If I was him they are cut off.

Remember when you told posters not to invent reasons to dislike Jones? You do the same with Volquest.

Yeah. I forgot about the "greatest recruiting class in UT history."

One "does not meet expectations" after another.

So we're going to pay DeBord $600,000 then hire a high-octane Co-OC like Helfrich for another mil or so? We don't need both. And we certainly don't need to pay DeBord $600K to coach the OL.

Unless Mahoney is gone and DeBord coaches OL.

Call me an optimist, but I'll hold my opinions til February. Recruiting goes like this every year, and one thing CBJ and his staff has proven, is they can recruit well and evaluate well!!
Now coaching up after they get here, that's another story! Lol

I've held off on pointing this out, so indulge me now. Others help keep me honest if it is totally off base.

Isn't a part of evaluation at the college level looking at an athlete's long term physical viability and the ability to stay healthy? Pretty sure it is in the NFL, and that's where college learned the eval process. So couldn't it be argued that Butch & co. aren't good recruiters? Sure, they get speed and find individuals early. They supposedly have a player character profile they follow and have lofty intelligence expectations. But, based on two consecutive years of injuries, first in pre-season and then during regular season, there might be an argument that they aren't recruiting well. They aren't recruiting young men who can withstand the wear and tear of the competition in the SEC. That would appear to me, an admitted novice, to be the most important determinant of good and adequate recruiting.

All butch had to do was beat vandy and scar and recruiting would look so much better right now. It's a shame that we have all this local talent and they're going everywhere but Tennessee . A class with Higgins, smith,Stevens, gray,Phillips, chandler and Hayden would have been a great class full of local kids. The sad thing is butch probably could have gotten all of these kids except 1(Stevens) and I'm not convinced he couldn't have flipped him with a good year.

I really don't like Purdue for not taking this lame duck coach off of tn hands and then rumors that his agent is looking around plus recruits wondering if Butch will even be here next year is going to lead to a disappointing offseason

Close, but I think Jones coaching Bama would narrowly defeat Saban coaching the Vols.

Are these kind of thought experiments supposed to improve one's football IQ?

Saban.

I don't think his talent level is that much higher than everyone else. The struggles of Bama players in the NFL shows that. One could argue LSU has been more talented during his entire reign given how many stars they have in the league right now.

Saban just knows how to get the most from his talent. You could give him the rosters of Tennessee or LSU or Auburn or A&M and he would still win.

No. just supposed to pass the time of our miserable lives

Wait. What a fascinating riddle. It caused me to research the overtime rules. Vols win in the 11th overtime when E. Berry intercepts a two point conversion attempt to go ahead in the end zone and takes it 100 yards the other way for the win.

Exactly that

Good thought process. It is one factor. Some others are nutritional, S&C, schemes, and overall system. How many Bama and LSU looking physiques do you see on the UT roster? OSU and Michigan guys are filled out and still have quickness. Most of the time so do Clemson's. Our guys look lean at many positions that are normally more filled out and stronger. That tells me the recruit profile, nutrition, S&C and schemes are designed for quickness and speed versus strength. So when the O-line faces power rushers on the pass or need a win in short yardage, they struggle. How many successful bull rushers on the D-line do you see to where they collapse the pocket even when they were healthy? Same with LB's. It appears they now want one thumper with Ignont's recruitment. But there have been zero of them. They've want them lean and fast. It is a philosophical decision Butch made for his system. I think it is dead wrong for the SEC unless what you have seen is what you want. I think you go the route he has gone when you have lesser talent to offer some kind of competitive advantage against opponents.
